Chapter 50: Finally, the Chance to Boost Combat Power
Chapter 50: Finally, the Chance to Boost Combat Power
Noticing Liam's puzzled look, Kenvi briefly explained what he knew about the Precursors. After listening, Liam summarized that they were highly advanced beings who possessed both cutting-edge technology and supernatural abilities. This indicated that Kenvi's world was also of a high tier, suggesting that Kenvi himself wielded powers far beyond those of ordinary people, likely making him an Extraordinary Being.
Kenvi then began to describe his world, which sounded like a parallel Earth during the Age of Exploration.
Perhaps the safe environment made him feel relaxed, or maybe he had kept certain secrets for too long. It could also be that he had had a few drinks. Whatever the reason, Kenvi started to recount his past experiences in a rambling manner.
He mentioned the financial disputes that had caused friction with his wife, leading her to return to her parents' home. Determined to win her back, he decided to seek his fortune in the Caribbean Sea.
Later, he did make a fortune, but his wife passed away from an illness, leaving behind only their daughter. It was then that he realized what he truly needed was not wealth, but his family.
So, he resolved to create a good living environment for his daughter. Unfortunately, with too many enemies, he couldn't let her interact with many outsiders, making her somewhat introverted. This situation worried him greatly.
Thus, he constantly pondered how to find a place where he could avoid his enemies and provide a good environment for his daughter to grow up in.
One day, while thinking about this problem and playing by the beach with his daughter, they encountered a strange fog. When the fog cleared, they found themselves at the Multiverse General Store.
Kenvi then started to recount his maritime adventures, describing the battles he had fought at sea. His daughter, Jennifer Scott, listened with wide-eyed surprise, clearly having never heard these stories before.
Although Liam did not consider piracy a legitimate profession, in that era, as long as civilians were not indiscriminately killed, he found it somewhat acceptable. However, he thought it inappropriate to discuss such things in front of a child.
So, Liam took out a set of Wizard Chess and handed it to Jennifer, asking her to sit behind the counter and play. He then sat down and continued chatting with Kenvi.
As they talked, Kenvi mentioned his ship:
"It was a sturdy Schooner, both steady and fast. It had over 50 cannons, powerful and well-protected by iron plating. It sailed like the wind and maneuvered like a bird. Unfortunately, it sank near Hispaniola. Oh, my poor Jackdaw..."
Liam suddenly recognized a familiar name: Jackdaw. He recalled a famous internet meme from his previous life: "Heaven and Earth, Jackdaw." While it originally referred to a game company's practice of giving away a game with a bug, Liam immediately thought of the world Kenvi came from: Assassin's Creed.
Although he had only read some articles about Assassin's Creed in his past life and never played it, Liam could deduce that Kenvi must have experienced the story of the game's protagonist. Since he was sailing the protagonist's ship, Kenvi must be the protagonist, and in Assassin's Creed, the protagonist is always an assassin. Therefore, Kenvi must be an assassin.
With this in mind, Liam recited a line he had memorized from his past life to impress others: "Nothing is true."
"Everything is permitted", Kenvi half-dazedly continued.
Then he suddenly snapped back to reality: "How did you know I was an assassin?"
“Calm down.” Liam, who had risen from his seat, made a gesture with his hands to indicate that Kenvi should sit down. He then pointed to Jennifer, who had stood up in a panic behind the counter and accidentally knocked over the chessboard.
“Your daughter nearly got a fright. I just told her that this is the Multiverse General Store, which, as the name suggests, can connect to countless worlds. It's only natural that some stories from your world have made their way here.”
Kenvi thought about it and decided that if Liam had any ill intentions, he would have acted by now. He relaxed and sat back down, then asked, “Since you know who I am, you must also know that the Templars' pursuit of me is relentless. Although I traded a life for my safety, relying on others for protection doesn’t guarantee absolute security. Do you have any way to ensure my daughter can grow up safely?”
“Don’t forget, this is the Multiverse General Store!” Liam said with a hint of pride. “I have the ability to connect to the Multiverse and can send you to any of the worlds linked by this emporium. I don’t believe the Templars from your world can chase you into another world.”
“Hm, that’s an idea,” Kenvi replied thoughtfully. “But what would I have to pay for this? After all, no one helps others for nothing.”
“Everything can be used for a trade—your abilities, your strength, your wealth, your knowledge. You won’t lose these things by trading with me; you’ll just be teaching them to me.”
“Fair enough. I’m willing to trade everything I know for a stable future for my daughter and me. But first, you need to tell me which world you’ll send us to.”
“It’s my pleasure to introduce them to you.” Liam looked happy as the deal was about to be sealed. He began to carefully describe the worlds he could send Kenvi and his daughter to.
“The first world is one in the midst of an Ice Apocalypse, where survival is a constant struggle.”
“Absolutely not.” Kenvi firmly rejected the idea.
“The second world is very similar to yours, but it’s a few hundred years in the future. If you go there, you might experience two World Wars.” Liam then briefly explained the death toll of the World Wars.
“I really don’t want to be involved in any more wars, and I certainly don’t want my daughter to be caught up in them.”
“The third world is a very ordinary one, a few years ahead of mine. It’s a completely normal world.”
“I’ll consider that.”
“The last world has some Reanimated Corpses, but humans have cultivated special Plants to fight them. I helped that world significantly, and recently, I received a message from a friend there. They’ve successfully reclaimed a large area of land and are working towards completely eradicating the Zombies.” Liam then showed Kenvi and Jennifer the Plants from that world. Jennifer, having put down her Wizard Chess, went over to examine the Plants closely.
After introducing the four worlds, Liam looked at Kenvi. “These are the only four worlds I have. If you’re willing to choose one, the deal is done. If not, you can leave with your daughter. The choice is yours.”
It was clear that Kenvi was hesitating between the Plants vs. Zombies World and the Superpowered World. He asked for a detailed explanation of these two worlds.
Finally, after a long and somewhat awkward silence, Kenvi made his decision.
