Chapter 5: Training the Mini Skeleton
Chapter 5: Training the Mini Skeleton
Li Wu had to admit that he felt a mix of envy, jealousy, and resentment when he saw the attributes of Lin Jianying's Goblin.
Ever since he obtained the Golden Finger ability yesterday,
Li Wu, with his average looks, had successfully flirted with numerous girls, petted their Summon Beasts, and examined their attributes. But so far, the only Summon Beast with a skill was Lin Jianying's Goblin.
Although Li Wu hadn't mastered the skill himself, the mere fact that the Goblin had one set it apart from other Summon Beasts by several streets.
What's more, this Goblin had a decent Intelligence attribute.
Li Wu patted the Goblin, and it immediately turned its head, giving Li Wu a suspicious glare.
Its expression seemed to say, "Don't mess with me."
The Goblin's reaction, expression, and demeanor made Li Wu feel an urge to throw away his own Mini Skeleton, which couldn't even walk properly.
"When will you ever be as majestic as that Goblin?" Li Wu couldn't help but turn back and sigh at his own Mini Skeleton.
The Mini Skeleton remained motionless, without responding.
Seeing its foolish appearance, Li Wu's anger rose, and his determination ignited. "Damn it, I don't believe it! I'm a cheater in this fantasy world, and I won't let a little thing like you stay untrained!
Let's go, we're starting right now!"
Saying so, Li Wu took the Mini Skeleton to the vegetable market and bought a bone for it.
Then, Li Wu began to train the Mini Skeleton using a training guide he had found online the night before.
Speaking of the guide, Li Wu strongly suspected that it was written by a web novelist.
The content of the guide was similar to a novel called "Furious Laughter," known for its excessive wordiness.
In the guide's thousands of words, only two pieces of essential information stood out.
One, the Mini Skeleton seemed capable of strengthening itself by absorbing nutrients from bones, although the absorption rate was rather slow.
And two, while the Mini Skeleton absorbed skeletal energy, training could make its bones sturdier and its movements more agile.
Indeed, these were the only valuable insights in the entire guide.
The rest of the training methods were quite ordinary—things like squats, push-ups, burpee runs, and the like.
Of course, simplicity is good; it makes training easier.
"Eat, and then follow behind me and run!"
The Mini Skeleton didn't respond, but it seemed to understand Li Wu's instructions.
Obediently, it put the two- to three-decimeter-long bone into its mouth and wobbled along behind Li Wu.
This type of training required time; it wouldn't show immediate results.
So, the Mini Skeleton following Li Wu would walk a few steps and then stumble. This time, Li Wu didn't help it up; he just watched from the side. When it fell, he let it get up on its own, and then they continued.
After a long training session with no visible progress, Li Wu almost ended up late for school.
"This won't do. From now on, we won't train on the way to school. I'd rather use this time to get to school early and study more.
Anyway, I can train it during class."
Li Wu muttered as he entered the classroom just before the bell rang. He took his seat and glanced at his classmate, Pang Doudou, with narrowed eyes.
"Hey, isn't Plumpie here yet?"
At that moment, the classroom door opened, and a plump figure stumbled in—it was indeed Plumpie.
As she sat down next to Li Wu, panting heavily, he asked, "Why are you so late?"
Plumpie didn't dare say that she had been waiting for Li Wu, nor did she dare complain about him changing the time without notifying her.
Li Wu didn't mind. He just said, "Oh," and continued to survey the classroom, which felt both unfamiliar and familiar. To be precise, he was examining the students and their Summon Beasts.
Hmm, the focus should be on the Summon Beasts.
Li Wu initially thought that summoning a Mini Skeleton would be typical for a student with poor potential.
However, after observing his class, he realized that he might not be as bad as he thought, or rather, everyone seemed to be in the same boat.
In a class of forty students, there were seven or eight who had summoned Mini Skeletons.
Aside from the Mini Skeletons, there were other Summon Beasts like Plumpie's Mini Pig, which were obviously lacking in combat prowess.
Only about a quarter of the class had summoned Summon Beasts with any real fighting ability.
Those who had succeeded were filled with enthusiasm, and although they couldn't speak, their expressions clearly showed 'joy'.
The rest of the students hung their heads in disappointment, occasionally glancing at their classmates who had drawn powerful Summon Beasts, their eyes filled with envy and jealousy.
In the midst of this atmosphere, Li Wu didn't feel comfortable. After observing for a while, he lowered his head and started studying intently.
Time was running out for him.
Soon after Li Wu settled down to study, a middle-aged man in his thirties entered the classroom.
This man was Li Chun, the class teacher of Li Wu's class.
As he entered the classroom and stepped onto the podium, he scanned the dejected students below. This time, he didn't feel like giving an inspirational speech.
As an experienced teacher, Li Chun had encountered such situations before.
He knew that motivational speeches wouldn't work at this point, and a few words of encouragement wouldn't help; instead, it might make them feel worse.
Li Chun had a special approach for this situation.
Seeing the students' dejected attitudes, he decided to assign them more homework to keep them busy. However, there was one student he felt needed extra attention—yes, it was Li Wu, who had fainted the previous day after summoning the Mini Skeleton.
Li Wu's mental state was concerning, and Li Chun felt the need to provide some guidance to prevent any reckless actions.
With this in mind, Li Chun's gaze naturally fell upon Li Wu.
Upon closer observation, Li Chun realized that Li Wu's issue was indeed serious.
Li Wu was currently training his Mini Skeleton, and despite being a typical underachiever who rarely studied, he was now deeply engrossed in his books.
It was clear that Li Wu had decided to start putting in effort.
However, the more Li Wu tried, the more worried Li Chun became.
After fainting just the day before, Li Wu was already training his Mini Skeleton and studying diligently, which showed his strong determination to become a Professional Summoner.
But with this determination came a tendency to overthink and get stuck in a rut, making it harder for him to cope with challenges.
If Li Wu's Summon Beast hadn't been a Mini Skeleton, and if his academic performance had been slightly better, or if his family's financial situation had been more favorable, Li Chun would have been delighted to witness this scene.
Unfortunately, Li Wu's Summon Beast was a Mini Skeleton, the weakest and most hopeless Summon Beast.
Moreover, Li Wu was an underachiever, and his family didn't have the financial means to spend money on in-game items.
Given these three factors, Li Chun could almost conclude with certainty that Li Wu had absolutely no chance of getting into Summoner University.
Any effort Li Wu put in was destined to be in vain.
It was precisely because of this certainty that Li Chun felt worried.
He feared that Li Wu might not be able to cope after hitting a dead end.
"Hmm, it seems I need to have a talk with him!"
