Chapter 5: Notification hunter

Boon: “Was that.. meant for me? it probably wasn’t right?”

Boor: “I’m an imbecile! Why didn’t I check the number first?!”

When Boon read his text he was a bit skeptical. He didn’t want to assume Boor was lying but if he was at school why did Boon have to call him?

Boon waited for his answer, but his mother called him. He picked up the phone and told them about their conversation. The mother hummed as she pondered.
“Could you perhaps go to his school and see if you can find him?”
Suggested Abia.
Boon looked astonished “…. what?”
Alba refused, “No, it’s okay. I’ll continue there.”
Abia: “Really? Is it okay?”
Alba: “Yes. Thank you Boon! You don’t have to help us anymore. Well done!”
They said goodbye and Boon put the call down.
Alba: “Boor allows himself too much. He must know how to deal with his consequences”
She was deeply disappointed but still a bit used to this behavior. Her head played out thousands of scenarios of what Boor might have done during the time he was truant.
She clenched her jaw tightly, trying to keep the anger inside and sighed frustratingly when she knew what to do.
Abia saw this and asked worriedly, “Is everything really okay?”
Alba: “Yes, yes, everything is okay”
She blurred this conversation and tried to lighten the mood.
Alba: “Oh, my ice cream has already melted!”
Abia: “YES! I thought of that too! First eat, then talk”

After half an hour, when Alba and Abia went home, Alba, after charging her cell phone, called Boor’s main teacher and told him that he should be at school.

The class representative of Boor knocked on the door of the public toilet.
“Boor?”
Boor’s heart jumped and he let out a shaky breath
‘How did he know that?
Did my friends snitch on me?’
The class president knocked again
“I know you’re here, Boor. Come out before I get in!”
Both of them were standing in front of Boor’s toilet door and finally he gave up and opened his door.
“How did you know” Boor asked
The class representative said, “The teacher told us and you must be in front of the class after school. Lesson’s ending anyway”
Boor nodded, but did not go up the stairs, but wanted to go out of the school building. This was noticed by the two students in charge, and the head of the class wanted to stop the class representative and say that they should give up, but he remained stubborn and followed Boor.
“Hey!” he shouted, “Don’t think you can escape!”
Boor thought to himself ‘what’s his problem? He always interferes.’ and wanted to run away quickly, but really didn’t expect the class representative to run after him.
When Boor saw the class representative running after him, he got a fright and shouted: “WHY ARE YOU CHASING ME?”
Boor was fast, but he didn’t have much stamina and was soon out of breath
The class representative yelled back as he chased him
“The teacher sent me to take you in front of the class! Huff.. Huff.. I’m responsible for you getting there!!”
He was completely exhausted and wanted to take a short breath until he felt a hand on his shoulder.
A cold shiver ran down Boor’s spine as the class representative said in a trembling voice: “You … Come with me”
In the end, he gave up and followed the class representative back to school.
The head of the class saw this event, but not to the end, and said in amazement when the two students were back in the school building with faltering breath: “Impressive.”
Boor was sure he was having a really bad day when he had to go up the stairs. With self-pity he accepted his fate and waited in front of the class until the teacher was there. Without mercy he was sent to the school administration for detention and had to rewrite the previous homework he had not done during the time he did not go to school.
Boor muttered to himself, “How did they know that..”
The school principal noticed this and explained “I talked to your mother and-”
Boor: “Mom?!”


Principal, not amused : “—Yes. Don’t interrupt me”
