Chapter 5: It All Begins with a Scholar
Chapter 5: It All Begins with a Scholar
The sky was just beginning to lighten as Qin Muye spent the latter half of the night studying and attempting to use a meditation technique to absorb elements and convert them into magic. Despite the dire situation of survival, he remained remarkably calm.
Fortunately, his learning ability granted him a powerful aptitude for study, and after much trial and error, he managed to extract his first thread of magic.
Congratulations, you have obtained 1 Magic Point through a special method. Do you wish to undergo a special class change? Yes/No
Qin Muye looked at the prompt that appeared in The Lord's Epoch and found it somewhat peculiar, but he definitely chose "Yes." This choice also revealed more information to him, such as the fact that he could obtain a class. He had initially assumed that being a Lord was the only class, but it seemed there were others, or perhaps Lord was just the foundation?
Detected that you have triggered a special class change through a magic-based method. All ordinary-level magic classes are now available to you.
Please choose a magic class.
Mage
Lord Talent: Magic Affinity (All magic costs reduced by 10%)
Lord Skill: Basic Magic Power (Attack magic damage increased by 5%), Basic Mysticism (Restores 10% magic points daily)
Magic: 3 random 1st-level spells
Elementalist
Lord Talent: Elemental Control (Elemental magic effects increased by 10%)
Lord Skill: Choose one of Basic Fire/Water/Earth/Air Understanding (Magic power of the chosen element +1, magic points cost -1), Basic Magic Power (Attack magic damage increased by 5%)
Magic: 2 random elemental spells of the chosen element
Qin Muye's eyes widened at the list of classes, but he quickly regained his composure and continued scrolling through the options. In addition to Mage and Elementalist, there were also Alchemist and Necromancer, among other magic classes.
He knew that this wasn't due to his own efforts, but rather to his learning ability. Since he had found his unique strength, he should focus on it and not be swayed by other options. Otherwise, even if he became a Mage, what good would it do? In The Lord's Epoch, he had no inherent advantages, so he needed to create his own.
After thoroughly reviewing the list, he quickly settled on a class.
Scholar
Lord Talent: Academic Research (Knowledge +1 per level)
Lord Skill: Basic Enlightenment (Gains 5% extra experience when earning experience), Basic Academia (Allows the exchange of 1-2 level spells, affected by Wisdom, requires corresponding level of Wisdom to learn)
This was a purely supportive class, seemingly designed for leveling up and increasing magic points. However, Qin Muye was no longer limited by the immediate effects; he looked beyond the framework of The Lord's Epoch.
This class was a perfect complement to his learning ability, and anyone else would likely not choose it.
The 5% extra experience from Basic Enlightenment was minimal, but Basic Academia had some use in exchanging spells, though it was affected by Wisdom and required the learner to have the corresponding level of Wisdom.
Qin Muye decisively chose the Scholar class.
You have chosen the Scholar class.
Note: Your class slots are now full.
Qin Muye read the final note, wondering if this meant there were ways to expand his class slots. However, that was a concern for the future.
Lord/Scholar LV1 (0/1000)
Territory: Mage Tower (Ruined)
Health: 100%
Mana: 11/11
Attack: 0
Defense: 0
Strength: 0
Knowledge: 1
Lord Talent: Learning Ability, Academic Research
Lord Skills: Beginner Enlightenment, Beginner Academics, Beginner Reconnaissance (Temporary)
Spells: None
Although the Scholar profession didn't grant any spells, it did add 1 point to Qin Muye's Knowledge. It was clear that the Academic Research talent was taking effect, adding 1 point to Knowledge per level. Since he was currently Level 1, he naturally received 1 point of Knowledge. More importantly, his Mana was 11 points, which was 1 point higher than the usual 10.
"This extra point of Mana must be from my meditation. This means that in addition to relying on the Lord's Era system, I can also increase my magic power through my own efforts," Qin Muye could clearly feel the growth of his internal magic power.
"Thankfully, I didn't choose to be a Mage or an Elementalist. While I can't gain Lord talents from those professions, I can still learn spells and skills on my own. This way, there's not much difference from having multiple professions."
"More importantly, it seems that the levels are shared between the Lord and Scholar professions, rather than being calculated separately."
"In other words, the professions are more like stepping stones to gain skills, while the Lord is the core identity?"
Qin Muye felt his logical thinking becoming much sharper. What was once a foggy mystery was now crystal clear.
He suspected that this was one of the abilities granted by the Academic Research talent, not just the simple addition of 1 point of Knowledge per level.
"Master, shall we go out to search for resources today?" A sprite cautiously climbed up to the third floor of the mage tower, asking hesitantly.
Unbeknownst to him, the sky had already brightened.
"Can you go out on your own?" Qin Muye asked, impressed by the sprite's intelligence.
"No problem, Master. However, we don't have the same ability to store items as you do. We can only carry them back," the sprite explained.
As the Lord, Qin Muye could directly store resources from the wilderness into his inventory, but the sprites, being mere units, lacked this ability.
Hearing this, Qin Muye thought for a moment. "Alright, send out six sprites to explore and search for resources. Divide them into two teams of three. Each sprite should take enough food for one day. Return before dusk, and rest during midday if it gets too hot."
"Also, prioritize your safety. If you encounter any danger, drop the resources and run."
Qin Muye had more important matters to attend to and didn't want to waste time gathering resources himself.
"Yes, great Master. You are the kindest mage I have ever met. We will lay down our lives for you," the sprite said with deep gratitude.
"Alright, go and be careful." After another round of instructions, the sprite hurriedly descended the stairs.
Soon, Qin Muye saw six sprites split into two teams and leave the territory, heading in opposite directions.
"It seems the life of sprites in the mage tower isn't as good as I imagined."
Qin Muye sighed, then took out the Beginner Elemental Meditation Manual. With his new Lord talents and skills, he planned to review and gain new insights.
Of course, the real focus was on the Sprite Experiment Handbook.
