Chapter 5: Exam Secrets
Chapter 5: Exam Secrets
"Teacher Hayate, please, please don't tell Sensei Chikushi." Deidara continued to plead with Mu Yue, unwilling to give up.
"That depends on your performance." Mu Yue replied with a mischievous smile, not giving a definite answer.
"Teacher, is there something the matter?" Might Guy scratched his head, confused as to why he had been called out. He hadn't made any mistakes recently.
Mu Yue turned to look at Guy, the man who had almost kicked his way to the finale and was known by Madara as the strongest taijutsu user. Even so, he still had a long way to go.
Although he now wore the iconic green spandex, signifying his dedication to taijutsu, there was much room for growth in both his skills and his conviction.
At this moment, Guy firmly believed that his relentless daily training would make him a taijutsu master. However, he had yet to fully grasp the concept of youth and self-discipline that his father had spoken of. He needed to mature, and Mu Yue was more than happy to lend a helping hand during this process.
"Your theoretical grades are giving Sensei Chikushi quite a headache." Mu Yue stated.
Hearing Mu Yue's words, even Deidara, who was usually carefree, couldn't help but lower his head in embarrassment.
"It's not that I don't want to study, but the questions are just too difficult. Why do we need to count the number of animals when they're all locked up together?" Deidara tried to argue his case.
Seeing Deidara's expression, Mu Yue recalled her own high school days spent cramming for math exams. She considered herself lucky that her university major didn't require advanced mathematics.
However, Mu Yue knew that Deidara's struggles were due to his own shortcomings. The mathematics taught at the ninja academy was quite basic, with a minimal curriculum that was less extensive than even history.
"But it's not just math; your history and ninjutsu theory grades are also lacking." Mu Yue shook her head.
"What's the point of knowing all that history? It's all in the past anyway," Deidara argued, feeling that history class was unnecessary. At least mathematics could be useful when shopping for groceries; what use was history?
"I feel the same way." Guy nodded in agreement. Memorizing all those historical dates and events was a daunting task for him.
"If you have any complaints, take it up with the Third Hokage. He's the principal of the ninja academy, after all." Mu Yue clarified that she had no say in the school's curriculum.
"However, continuing like this isn't a solution. It's not good for Sensei Chikushi, and it's certainly not beneficial for you."
"Do you have any exam secrets to share, Teacher Hayate?" Deidara asked eagerly, his eyes full of anticipation.
Guy also looked at Mu Yue with anticipation. No one wanted to be at the bottom of the class if they could help it.
"Indeed, there is an exam secret, and that is to practice relentlessly! Study and practice simultaneously!" Mu Yue revealed her own study technique.
With his prior life's exam experience, passing the ninja academy's exams would be a breeze for Mu Yue, as the passing grade was set at half the average score of the class.
"Practice relentlessly?" The duo looked bewildered, not quite understanding.
"You can think of it as special training to prepare for the exams. Moreover, if you pass the exams, I'll give you a reward." Mu Yue smiled.
"What reward?" Deidara asked curiously. "A dumpling?"
"I can teach you ninjutsu or taijutsu. In other words, I can guide you in your training." Mu Yue replied.
"Really?!" Their eyes widened in disbelief at the unexpected good fortune that seemed too good to be true.
"On the condition that you pass your exams next month." Mu Yue reminded them.
"Is this what youth is about? I feel fired up!" Guy exclaimed excitedly.
"I guarantee that we'll pass this time!" Deidara assured her.
Seeing the duo already motivated, Mu Yue nodded inwardly. Skilled hunters often disguised themselves as prey.
The reason she didn't try to coax them into becoming her disciples like she did with Kakashi was twofold. First, their backgrounds didn't quite fit the narrative of gratitude she could spin. Second, as a one-time substitute teacher, she wouldn't be able to maintain long-term contact with them; it would have been easier if she had been their homeroom teacher.
After finalizing the special training arrangement with the duo, Mu Yue led them back to class.
"Obito, what did Sensei Umino want with you? Did he punish you?" Rin Nohara asked with concern.
"How could it be a punishment? Sensei Umino is so nice. He taught me exam secrets," Obito quickly clarified, defending Mu Yue.
As long as Mu Yue could help him shed the label of being at the bottom of the class, Obito would become her biggest cheerleader in the Ninja Academy.
"Rin, you should pay more attention in class too. Don't let me surpass you in the next exam," Obito said with a cheeky smile.
"If you can actually beat me, I'll be impressed," Rin replied with a resigned smile as she looked at Obito's smug expression. While she couldn't attain the top rank, she was still among the top students.
When the bell rang for class to start, Obito displayed an unprecedented level of seriousness. This time, he was determined to pass, and he had already started planning which ninjutsu to learn.
Even Rin was surprised by this sudden change in Obito, wondering if he was finally taking things seriously. However, three minutes later, as she watched Obito slump over his desk, she realized that some things never change, and Obito was still the Obito she knew.
Just then, a piece of chalk flew through the air, tracing a beautiful parabola before landing on Obito's head.
Obito looked around in confusion, his gaze falling on Mu Yue, then on Rin, and finally on Might Guy, who was writing furiously. He recalled what he had said just three minutes ago, and his face turned a shade of pink, the sleepiness dissipating from his eyes.
With Obito's little nap incident behind them, the rest of the class proceeded smoothly.
[Teaching Complete]
[Evaluation: A]
[Reward Received: Leaf Whirlwind]
This time, the reward wasn't a ninjutsu but a taijutsu, one that would be developed by Might Guy in the future.
The technique seemed simple—just a kick. However, Mu Yue, who had already learned the basics, found it more complex than it appeared. The stance, the muscular burst, and the chakra explosion all required skill and precision.
Mu Yue had been worried about not having anything to teach Guy, so she was quite pleased with this reward.
After school, Mu Yue wandered through the southern forest of Konoha, searching for a suitable place to cultivate.
She was still a member of Root, and Danzo Shimura was undoubtedly aware of her family's location.
Given Danzo's disdain for the Uchiha clan, if he found out that Mu Yue had taught Shisui a jutsu without reporting it, he might suspect her of betraying the organization.
While she had sensory jutsu at her disposal, she couldn't keep them active constantly, as it would deplete her chakra.
Therefore, Mu Yue planned to cultivate with Shisui outside in the future.
Eventually, she discovered a secluded spot by a small river that seemed ideal for cultivation. She made a mental note of the location and headed home.
As it turned out, Mu Yue's caution was well-founded. When she entered her courtyard, she found a ninja wearing an animal mask standing there.
