Chapter 499: The Scroll of Calamity, A Flying Pikachu
Chapter 499: The Scroll of Calamity, A Flying Pikachu
The Decayed Wood Shrine was located in the southeastern part of the Patia region, and according to the map marker provided by Lei He, it seemed to be near a cliff.
Naoki didn't know the exact location, so he could only investigate when he arrived. If all else failed, he could rely on his personal charm and mobilize the wild Pokemon inhabiting the area to help in the search.
Naoki made up his mind.
The next morning, after finishing his work at the ranch, he prepared to embark on a journey to the southern district of Patia on his Gorebyss.
Before leaving, Naoki brought some gifts and took his bear apprentice to the World Tree, sending him to the ocean where Kyogre resided.
"Beah?"
The bear apprentice looked up at Naoki, confused, as he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
At that moment, Naoki suddenly felt like a parent sending their child to kindergarten.
Shaking his head to dispel the odd thought, Naoki patted the bear apprentice's head and said, "I really want to stay here and continue practicing with you, but I have some important things to do. You stay here and practice peacefully. I'll come back for you tonight."
The bear apprentice blinked and nodded obediently.
"Beah!"
"Good luck!" Naoki cheered for his apprentice.
Coincidentally, the Primal Reversion Kyogre sensed their arrival and surfaced.
To ensure that Groudon and Kyogre would take good care of the bear apprentice, Naoki stepped forward and offered some of the miraculous dishes he had made that day to Kyogre as a sort of tuition fee.
"Please take care of my bear apprentice, Kyogre," Naoki said.
Compared to Groudon, Kyogre was calm and rational.
Of course, that was only when it wasn't in a frenzy.
It lowered its head to look at the human before it, its gaze shifting down to the bag in his hands.
At that moment, a sweet aroma wafted through the air from the bag's opening.
Naoki took out Energy Blocks and Pokeblocks from his bag and fed them to Kyogre, much like a trainer feeding a killer whale.
Unexpectedly, Kyogre didn't refuse but opened its mouth to accept the offering.
The sight of Kyogre obediently eating resembled nothing like the legendary Pokemon capable of summoning torrential rains and tsunamis, the ocean deity that could flood the world.
Witnessing this, Naoki grew bolder and reached out to gently pat Kyogre's head.
Kyogre: "?"
"It's nothing," Naoki pretended as if nothing had happened, took a step back, and turned to his bear apprentice. "I'm leaving now. Remember to practice well, and I'll come back for you tonight."
"Beah!"
Hearing these words, the bear apprentice felt a newfound sense of warmth and belonging.
The thought of Naoki coming back for him in the evening filled him with joy!
From this day forward, he, too, had a family among Pokemon!
"Beah~"
After seeing his bear apprentice settled, Naoki bid farewell to Dragon Home.
However, he didn't leave the World Tree just yet. He made another stop at the volcanic domain where Groudon resided and presented it with Energy Blocks and Pokeblocks as well.
"These are handmade by me. Consider it a gift for agreeing to teach my bear apprentice," Naoki said.
Groudon paused, a look of surprise flashing in its eyes.
It could receive gifts?! While it didn't care much for the presents, they were from Naoki.
And who was Naoki? He was the owner of this tree, the spokesperson for Rayquaza, the one who single-handedly stopped the conflict between it and Kyogre.
And now, this powerful human was offering it a gift…
This was truly shocking for a Pokemon!
Groudon wanted to say something more, but Naoki turned and left.
Upon leaving the World Tree, Naoki returned to the ranch, mounted his Gorebyss, and bade farewell to the group of Pokemon:
"We're off. We'll be back in the afternoon, so stay put and don't wander off, alright?"
"Bonny~"
Led by Eerie Imp, the Pokemon happily acknowledged.
Naoki nodded and took out his Rotom Phone to navigate. After confirming their destination, he rode his Gorebyss southward.
The fields and towns below sped past in a blur.
After an hour of flying, Naoki spotted the southern coast of Patia in the distance.
Unlike the northern region, the southern part of Patia was dominated by plains, where tranquil and gentle towns like Little Spoon Town and Flat Dish Town were nestled.
Naoki was particularly interested in Little Spoon Town.
In the game, it was the town from which players set out on their journeys, and it was also where Nemo was from.
Moreover, it seemed that Professor Auran and Professor Forsythia had a lighthouse research institute nearby.
Although it was small, there were still several dozen scattered households.
With so many mansions, Naoki couldn't pinpoint which one belonged to Nemo, but he did locate the lighthouse research institute.
Since there was only one lighthouse, it was obvious that it belonged to Professor Auran and Professor Forsythia.
Additionally, Naoki also spotted the Bay Cave, the place where players encountered Gorebyss in the game.
The cave was home to many Delibird and Horsea, just like in the game, and they lived in tribes, guarding their territory.
Naoki curiously gazed at the scene and asked Gorebyss below him, "By the way, Gorebyss, how did you happen to fly into my ranch back then? If you had landed here, you might have encountered a kind-hearted boy or girl!"
Gorebyss looked away, its eyes distant. "Agassi..."
"Never mind, it doesn't matter now," Naoki said, reaching out to pat Gorebyss's head affectionately. He couldn't bear the thought of Gorebyss leaving him.
Gorebyss agreed wholeheartedly, "Agassi!"
That's right!
"Alright, alright, I've seen enough. Let's continue on our way!"
After checking in on Little Spoon Town, Naoki mounted Gorebyss and departed, heading towards the location of the Decayed Wood Shrine.
"Cliff... cliff..."
If he remembered correctly, the Decayed Wood Shrine was located beneath a certain cliff.
Naoki fixed his gaze on the row of cliffs and directed Gorebyss to descend.
As soon as they landed, his Rotom Phone started ringing.
When he answered the call, Lei He's face appeared on the screen.
Lei He's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "So, how many Calamity Pokemon have you caught so far?"
Naoki replied truthfully, "Two. Gu Yu Yu and Gu Ding Lu have already started their new lives at my ranch. I'm currently on the south coast of the Patia region, preparing to investigate the Decayed Wood Shrine here."
"Oh, then you'd better step up your game!" Lei He encouraged.
Just then, Gorebyss, who was walking ahead, seemed to have spotted something and suddenly let out a warning cry.
"Agassi!"
"What's wrong?" Naoki asked, hurrying to catch up.
They followed the edge of a lake, eventually stopping at the end of the lake where there was a broken cliff.
Gorebyss lowered its head to look down. "Agassi!"
Naoki followed Gorebyss's gaze and looked down as well.
The next second, he spotted a glowing shrine at the bottom of the mountain cliff.
The surrounding vegetation was lush, with fertile grass and unknown wildflowers blooming amidst the grass.
However, strangely, the grass near the shrine was all withered and yellow, making the surrounding land desolate.
Naoki was taken aback for a moment.
That was...
The Rotom Phone also aimed its camera at the bottom of the cliff.
Lei He, on the other side of the call, naturally saw the scene near the Decayed Wood Shrine.
"Rotom, take a closer look," Lei He instructed.
"Gorebyss, let's go down." Naoki brought Rotom and Gorebyss to the very bottom.
Rotom moved closer to carefully capture the details of the Decayed Wood Shrine.
With just one glance, both Naoki and Lei He noticed something unusual about the shrine.
Originally, the shrine had been sealed with four chains, but now only two remained!
This meant that four of the sealing posts had been pulled out!
"Who could have done this? A passing trainer or a wild Pokemon?" Lei He glanced at the surrounding scenery and pondered.
"When the posts are pulled out, the power of the seal weakens. It seems like the power of the Calamity Scroll has permeated the seal and is affecting the surrounding environment," Lei He analyzed.
"According to ancient records, the Calamity Scroll used to be an ordinary wooden scroll. Later, someone recorded the evil deeds of a king on it."
"But that person was punished by the king, and their hatred infused the scroll, transforming it into the Calamity Scroll."
"And if I'm not mistaken, the Calamity Scroll has the power to absorb the energy of plants, causing the surrounding forest to wither instantly and crops in the fields to fail," Lei He continued, her expression turning apologetic. "If you were to capture it, it might bring trouble to your ranch..."
"Don't worry, I have a plan," Naoki assured her.
An immortal always had tricks up his sleeve.
By feeding the Reversal Dish to the Calamity Scroll, the reversal power within it would completely reverse the scroll's abilities.
Absorption would become release, withering forests would flourish, and crop failures would turn into bountiful harvests.
With this, the ranch would gain a new Fertility Snail.
It had to be said that this world was indeed a world where the power of the mind prevailed.
After hanging up the phone, Naoki set about pulling out the last four posts of the Decayed Wood Shrine.
He rode Gorebyss back to the top of the cliff and surveyed his surroundings.
Most of the Pokemon inhabiting this area were common and familiar species.
There were Tiny Owls, Budew, Munchlax, Greedy Squirrels, and Seedots, to name a few.
After a brief moment of contemplation, Naoki decided to employ the same method as the previous two times.
He would communicate with these Pokemon using his Everstone ability and then ask them to help him locate the posts.
First, he took out some enticing Energy Blocks.
The rich and fragrant aroma wafted through the air, and soon enough, a large group of wild Pokemon was attracted by the scent.
They curiously gazed at the human before them, sensing the friendly and approachable aura he exuded, and surprisingly, not a single one of them ran away!
"Ahem." Naoki cleared his throat and then said, "Everyone, I'm Naoki, and I have a favor to ask of you all!"
He then showed them a picture of the posts and told the Pokemon that if they could help him find the glowing posts, he would reward them with a stack of delicious Energy Blocks and Pokeblocks.
For these wild Pokemon, this was an extremely enticing offer.
All they had to do was walk around and help look for something in exchange for delicious treats—it was a fantastic deal!
So, this group of Pokemon readily agreed.
They scattered and went off in different directions to search for the posts.
Naoki, meanwhile, looked around for a place with a good vantage point to set up camp and wait for the wild Pokemon to return.
Soon, his eyes landed on a cliff where, upon standing, one could behold an unobstructed view of the boundless Patia Sea.
"Gorebyss, let's go over there and wait for them!" Naoki said.
"Agassi!"
Gorebyss immediately nodded in agreement.
However, before they could even get close, Gorebyss seemed to have noticed something and turned its gaze in a particular direction.
"Agassi?"
"Hmm? Did you notice something?" Naoki asked, puzzled.
He followed Gorebyss's line of sight and, the next second, spotted a Pikachu on the seaside cliff in front of them.
But what left Naoki stunned was the fact that this Pikachu was flying!
It continuously swung its lightning-charged tail, gliding smoothly through the air.
A flying Pikachu? How was it doing that? Naoki was utterly bewildered.
Just then, the Pikachu lost its balance and fell from the sky.
It tumbled on the grassy ground, picking up scratches and bruises before standing up again.
Just as Naoki thought it would take a moment to rest, the wild Pikachu suddenly erupted with a surge of yellow electricity!
It discharged electricity while running rapidly on the ground, using the recoil from the generated energy to propel itself back into the air.
The Pikachu, now airborne, skillfully controlled its trajectory by swaying its tail, resembling a true flying Pokemon!
Naoki, having witnessed this spectacle, quickly deduced the underlying principle behind it.
The Pikachu first used Volt Tackle, a charging move, to spin and create a vortex of energy in the shape of a tornado.
Then, it employed its powerful tail like a spring, bouncing within the vortex to gain height until it reached the sky, ultimately using its tail to balance and navigate the airflow, thus achieving flight.
However, not long after, the Pikachu fell from the sky once more.
It seemed that it hadn't completely mastered this combination of moves yet.
Naoki subconsciously scanned the area but couldn't spot another human trainer nearby.
This meant that the Pikachu wasn't a trainer's Pokemon; it was a wild Pokemon that had devised this technique on its own!
Realizing this, Naoki was even more astonished.
This wild Pikachu's intelligence and talent were truly remarkable!
Just then, the wild Pikachu noticed Naoki and Gorebyss's presence and immediately displayed a cautious expression, its cheeks sparking with electricity.
"Pika!"
The next second, the bruised Pikachu turned and ran away, vanishing into the nearby grass.
