Chapter 498: Fiendfyre Curse!
Chapter 498: Fiendfyre Curse!
The only thing that Ivan found strange was how Peter Pettigrew had learned such advanced Dark Magic.
Peter Pettigrew came from an ordinary wizarding family and had no knowledge of Horcruxes. It was clear that he had not learned this from the book Advanced Dark Magic Unveiled.
The most likely explanation was that Voldemort had rewarded Peter Pettigrew for his services.
During the end of their first year, when Voldemort possessed Quirrell, he had also used similar methods to enhance his power. Ivan remembered this vividly.
However, Ivan was not particularly interested in such powerful Dark Magic. Relying on self-mutilation to gain power was undoubtedly pushing oneself step by step towards the abyss.
So, he merely glanced through it, getting a general idea, before moving on to other content.
Advanced Dark Magic Unveiled contained a lot of Dark Magic, much of which was practical.
For example, a certain Binding spell could connect the lives of two people, allowing them to share Magic. However, the conditions for achieving this were extremely strict, and if one person died, the other would die as well.
Even the legendary Unforgivable Curses were detailed in the book.
Although Ivan was somewhat concerned that learning such Dark Magic could affect one's mind, he still memorized the methods of using them.
After all, these were very practical spells, and powerful Wizards generally knew them.
As he recorded and flipped through the pages, Ivan quickly found the sections on Horcruxes.
The author of the book described Horcruxes with great fervor as the secret to immortality, a bridge to eternal life.
Ivan scoffed at this. Throughout history, although the number of Dark Wizards who had created Horcruxes was small, there were a few who had been recorded. None of them had lived to the present day.
Of course, this did not mean that Horcruxes were completely useless. Just look at Voldemort, who, after creating Horcruxes, became as resilient as a cockroach. It was an excellent means of self-preservation, one of the few ways to avoid death.
This was somewhat similar to the Lich's Phylactery in myth, though it was much weaker, as it only allowed one to wander the world as a ghost after death.
The book also detailed the method of creating a Horcrux, along with the corresponding spells.
The most critical step was splitting the soul, which required the murder of another person as a prerequisite. The process of splitting the soul was extremely painful and hard to endure.
Once successful, the split portion of the soul needed to be sealed in an object, any object would do, even a stone. Once made into a Horcrux, the object would become the most evil Dark Magic Object in the world.
The soul strength of an ordinary Wizard was limited, and splitting it once was already the limit. The book did not specify what would happen if one split their soul multiple times.
But then again, who in their right mind would split their soul six or seven times like Voldemort? Hiding one Horcrux securely for self-preservation was enough!
Even if one felt it was not safe enough, making two would be the most one would do, as splitting the soul was described as extremely painful.
Or perhaps Voldemort was psychologically twisted and actually enjoyed the feeling of splitting his soul, getting addicted to it as he tore and tore?
Ivan found this unlikely and did not dwell on it further. He casually flipped to the next page, his attention caught by another spell recorded there.
"Fiendfyre Curse?" Ivan was quite surprised. This was the Dark Magic he had always wanted to learn.
If it weren't for the scarcity of books on Dark Magic that detail the Fiendfyre Spell, and Asia's unwillingness to teach him, he wouldn't have been delayed until now.
After glancing at the introduction to the Fiendfyre Spell, Ivan immediately understood Asia's concerns. This was a very special and powerful form of Dark Magic.
When casting it, no incantation is required, but one must summon the emotion of destruction, release the inner desire to devastate, and transform it into tangible flames that consume everything around!
What alarmed Ivan the most was that Fiendfyre continuously self-replicates, using anything it can burn as fuel, continuously expanding until there is nothing left to burn!
And it cannot be extinguished by ordinary means; once it gets out of control, the consequences are unimaginable.
At this point, Ivan couldn't help but think of Malfoy's lackey, Crabbe, who dared to cast the Fiendfyre Spell in the storage room of the Room of Requirement.
Now, thinking back, this was indeed a talent. After all, there was an entire room full of magical items as fuel. Given Crabbe's strength, if he could control the Fiendfyre, it would be a miracle!
As Ivan was recording various Dark Magic Spells, Harry, who was searching for books on the other side of the shelf, noticed Ivan's unusual behavior.
"Ivan, did you find something? I saw you reading this book for a long time", Harry walked over and asked curiously.
Hearing Harry's voice, Ivan snapped out of his focused learning state. He maintained a calm expression, flipped through a few pages casually, and then turned back to the page about Horcruxes before speaking.
"Yes, that's right! I found the secret Regulus mentioned!"
Ivan's and Harry's conversation echoed in the enclosed Library. Sirius and Lupin, who were nearby, quickly came over.
"Ivan, what secret have you found?" Sirius asked eagerly.
Without further explanation, Ivan handed over the open copy of *Advanced Dark Magic Unveiled*.
Sirius took it and examined it carefully, while Harry and Lupin also leaned in curiously.
The more they read, the more alarmed they became. By the time they finished reading all the information about Horcruxes, Sirius and the others felt a chill run down their spines.
"So, the Locket is Voldemort's Horcrux!" Lupin let out a slow breath. It was the first time he had heard of such an evil magic.
"No wonder Voldemort only lost his power that night and didn't die completely!" Sirius was both shocked and excited.
They had finally unraveled the secret of Voldemort's immortality!
"Regulus must have willingly sacrificed himself to destroy Voldemort's Horcrux, so that Voldemort could be completely defeated one day", Harry said, recalling the words Kreacher had spoken before.
"Clearly, he realized he had followed the wrong person and wanted to make amends, which is why he made such a choice", Lupin sighed, then turned to Sirius and said admiringly.
"But your brother was truly remarkable. He managed to deceive the Dark Lord, making Voldemort believe he was extremely loyal, so Voldemort entrusted him with the House-Elf!"
