Chapter 498: Demons
“What are you doing!?”
Asher’s face first twisted into disbelief, then erupted into furious distortion and rage. His entire body trembled uncontrollably.
He, a noble Demon, had been deceived—by a lowly Human!
This was utter humiliation!
How could that Human possibly know his status? And from where did he even draw the audacity to report him?
How had that Red Dragon managed to sway hearts so thoroughly, that even those who resented him would risk their lives to aid him?
“You filthy, ungrateful scum of the Northern Regions—your kind should be massacred!”
Human, I’ll make you know the price of angering a Demon!”
Asher’s features twisted further into grotesque horror. The gray robe wrapping his body writhed as he grew increasingly agitated.
“Spines—!”
With a sudden, violent tear, the skin of his body split open. Black, jagged spines burst forth. Claws of chitinous armor, lined with rows of fangs, unfolded from his limbs. His face—once human-like—now revealed a nightmare of writhing, fanged maws.
Asher had finally unveiled his true form: a Miyu Demon.
Born from the corrupted spiritual souls of betrayers, these demons thrive on deception, luring their victims into self-destruction with cunning traps and lies.
His body swelled even larger, the gray robe torn apart. The curved horns atop his head shattered the tavern’s ceiling.
“Boom!”
Dust clouds erupted. Debris rained from above. The crowd surged in panic, screaming and fleeing in all directions.
“Run!”
“What is that?”
“Aaaah!”
“Foolish mortals, HAHAHA! Feel the terror!”
“I’ll slaughter every last one of you!”
The Miyu Demon let out a guttural, horrifying laugh. With a single sweep of its massive claw, it severed several fleeing victims in half.
Abyssal power radiated from its monstrous form—so potent it seared the soul with primal fear.
Tiefling Constabulary soldiers raised their long spears, targeting the shadowy mass in the swirling dust. Even the brawling Ogres and Great Goblins froze, their expressions hardened. They drew pistols from their belts and began firing.
“Open fire! Kill the Demon!”
Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets rained upon the creature—but merely bounced off its thick, armored shell with sharp, metallic echoes.
The Miyu Demon’s flesh was immensely powerful, capable of destroying anything in its path. Had the city not enforced high-rank magical prohibitions, it could have unleashed devastating illusions to shatter minds.
It was a master spellcaster and a merciless warrior. Even the bravest heroes trembled at the mere sight of one.
Asher emerged from the dust, sneering.
“You’re just tickling me,” he hissed.
“Foolish mortals—how could you ever understand the grandeur of the Abyss?”
His crimson, bloodshot eyes locked onto Raj, who cowered behind the soldiers, trembling on the ground.
“You, Human… I’ve come for you. As punishment for your deceit, I’ll make you watch as your own body is torn apart.”
“Shoot its eyes!”
A Tiefling Peacekeeper raised his rifle, barking the order.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang!
Hundreds of bullets slammed into the Demon’s head—striking its eyes. The beast staggered back, but didn’t fall.
Asher raised his clawed hand, shielding himself, then charged forward with a guttural roar.
“You insolent, dying mortals! I’ll utterly destroy you—annihilate this entire empire!”
“Boom!”
The Miyu Demon charged into the crowd, slashing through several Tiefling soldiers with a single sweep of its claws. But the Tieflings, Goblins, and Ogres did not retreat. Forming a loose defensive line, they kept firing at its weak points. Bombs were thrown. Years of military training had turned this instinctual.
An Ogre raised a table as a shield, shouting defiantly:
“Big bug! Ruuk will smash you flat!”
Boom!
The Demon slammed into the Ogre, crushing him underfoot, then used its claws to pulverize more soldiers—straight toward Raj.
“Human—”
Its true status had been exposed. The secret mission to undermine the Empire’s order had failed.
Now, Asher only wanted one thing: to kill this cursed Human, vent his rage, and vanish.
“No… don’t kill me!”
“Help me!”
Raj scrambled backward on all fours, but his movements were useless. The Demon’s claw loomed over him, growing larger in his terrified vision. He could see the fresh bloodstains on its jagged teeth, smell the stench of rot and blood.
Was this really the end?
He wasn’t ready.
He hadn’t claimed the Golden Nael.
He hadn’t paid off his debts.
He hadn’t earned First-Class Citizen status.
Terror overwhelmed him. He shut his eyes, his pants soaked with fear.
Then—no pain.
Instead, a searing heat flooded the air.
Raj dared to open his eyes.
Flames danced. Ash flew. Dragon presence surged.
A girl with Dragon horns upon her brow hovered midair, her crimson hair whipping wildly in the wind. Her golden vertical pupils blazed with wrathful fire.
To those who saw her, it was as if a colossal Red Dragon unfurled its wings and roared across the sky.
This was Misha—the Dragonfire Maiden, contractee of King Kai Xiusu, master of the Tower of Conflagration.
“It’s Misha-sama!” Raj cried out in shock.
As the King’s contractee, she was said to hold rank equal to a Duke. Raj had only ever seen such a figure in the Kingdom Daily—among the highest echelons of power.
“Whoever defiles His Majesty shall be reduced to ash!”
Misha raised a slender hand. Fire surged from her fingertips like living serpents, coiling into a blazing, furious hurricane that surged toward the Demon.
“Boom!”
The Miyu Demon crashed into the ruins, its body scorched and charred. The thick, impenetrable shell began to melt under the onslaught.
Asher staggered back to his feet, glaring at the girl with burning hatred.
A powerful Demon—humiliated by a mortal?
His body pulsed with Abyssal light. “You… you’re the Red Dragon’s favored one,” he growled through clenched teeth.
Misha said nothing. She simply stared coldly, arms crossed.
In a hundred-meter radius, fire elements converged—amassing into a colossal energy vortex. A sphere of light, intense as the sun, blazed with spine-like heat—Dragon Breath.
Asher felt dread surge through him. He raised his claws and leapt high, aiming to kill the girl before the spell fully unleashed.
Misha looked up, pointed toward the sky—and unleashed it.
“Boom!”
A pillar of white flame tore through the air. The searing heat melted the Demon’s shell, shattered its Abyssal flesh, and tore through its thick chest.
She didn’t stop. With a flick of her finger, she guided the flame upward—ripping the Demon’s entire upper half in two.
“AAAAAAHHH—!”
“Mortal! You can never kill me! I will be reborn in the Abyss… and I will take revenge upon that Red Dragon!”
Its final scream echoed as chaotic fog poured from its wounds. Yellow light burst from its eyes and ears. Cracks split its skin. The monstrous form collapsed under the force of its own destruction.
Just as the evil spiritual soul began to retreat back to the Abyss, to be reborn in the blood pool—it was stopped.
Blocked.
Annihilated.
The Empire’s domain.
Even though the Red Dragon had slept for ages, His power still enshrouded this land. It sealed every gate—baring all unwelcome guests from entering… or leaving.
“No—!”
Misha watched the phantom form dissolve into ash, then smirked coldly.
“Scum of the Abyss. This is His Majesty’s realm.”
She turned, brushed her hands together lightly, and looked down at the trembling Raj with golden eyes.
“Problem solved. Now tell me—what did it say to you?”
Raj nodded frantically. The dampness in his pants began to dry in the scorching heat.
