Chapter 497: We Never Take Prisoners
Chapter 497: We Never Take Prisoners
‘Giant Gale’ and Frank hailed from the same village.
The two were extremely close, even sharing a sworn brotherhood. Frank was the elder brother, while Gale was the second.
Even their Devil Fruits were similar.
Frank consumed the ‘Speed-Speed Fruit,’ granting him the ability to accelerate up to tenfold.
Gale’s was the ‘Multiply-Multiply Devil Fruit,’ allowing him to amplify objects up to tenfold.
Together, they should have been invincible.
That year, they vowed to set sail together.
But Gale’s beloved pet died, forcing him to mourn for a full year. He missed the departure date with Frank.
Gale finally set out a year later, by which time Frank had already built his reputation.
But it didn’t matter—they had once promised to become Super Novas together.
They agreed that once their bounties exceeded 100 million, they’d reunite at Shabondy and storm the New World.
Whoever reached 100 million first would lead the other.
Though Gale was the latecomer, he believed he wouldn’t necessarily lose.
Originally, they both carried the same beautiful dream, sailing together toward piracy.
But unexpectedly!
Last year, Frank was captured!
Frank, whose bounty was just a step from 100 million, was thrown into Impel Down!
Before Gale could even plan a rescue, the Top War erupted.
Gale witnessed that battle.
At first, he rejoiced when Frank escaped, but his joy was short-lived. His own brother was ruthlessly slain by a Navy officer!
Frank was dead!
And Gale’s sole purpose now was revenge!
The Navy killed Frank—so Gale would kill the Navy in return!
Now was the moment of vengeance!
No warship could evade his colossal cannonballs, amplified tenfold. Never!
The Navy would taste his wrath!
The massive cannonball hurtled toward the warship. A direct hit would destroy it, but even an explosion nearby would engulf the vessel in a tidal wave of destruction.
He would spare none of these three warships!
Hiss!
As he thought this, a roar erupted from the warship. The descending cannonball suddenly froze midair, splitting cleanly into five pieces along four precise cracks.
A shadow leapt onto one fragment. With a powerful kick, the figure sent the shattered cannonball flying far into the sea.
Boom!!
The ocean erupted into towering waves.
“Leave it to me, Kuromr..”
Klah landed lightly on another fragment, adjusting his glasses with a casual flick. He stared toward the pirate ship, “I’ll handle this alone!”
89 million—this bounty was impressive in the first half of the Grand Line, but who was he?
Klah was an officer who’d endured six months of special training!
A mere pirate from the 【Paradise】 era? How could he possibly match Klahofficer?!
Bounding off the air itself, Klah rocketed toward the pirate ship.
To Gale’s eyes, a half-human, half-wolf figure blurred through the sky at terrifying speed.
“It’s Black Wolf!”
A pirate screamed, “Captain, that’s Navy’s ‘Black Wolf’ Klah!”
“What of Black Wolf!”
Gale gritted his teeth, “To me, he’s just a dead wolf!”
He raised his arm, barking, “Open fire!”
The pirates obeyed in unison, aiming their guns at the incoming Klah.
“Fire!”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
At Gale’s command, bullets flew—but his right fist clenched, slamming into the air. A ripple surged outward, enveloping the gunfire.
“Tenfold!”
The bullets morphed into cannonballs mid-flight, thundering toward Klah.
“As expected, a Devil Fruit user.”
Klah narrowed his eyes mid-air, his speed unwavering. He crossed his arms, a pitch-black aura surging over his limbs.
“Iron Body!”
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The cannonballs exploded against Klah’s body, shrouding him in smoke.
“This’ll reduce him to ash!” Gale sneered triumphantly.
Swoosh!
Suddenly, a wisp-like figure burst from the smoke, landing like a meteor on the pirate ship’s bow.
Crouching low, Klah planted his arms like a beast’s paws, locking eyes with Gale.
“So it’s you, ‘Giant Gale’.”
The cannonballs had left not a scratch.
These past six months hadn’t been wasted.
His Haki had advanced dramatically.
How had he improved?
Forget it. Painful memories.
As Kuro put it: “To quench hatred, scrape vengeance with a blunt blade.”
Klah wasn’t Kuro’s enemy, but that training felt no different from torment.
His Armament Haki could now withstand cannonballs—because Kuro had beaten him raw with the flat of his blade.
Only when Klah finally endured Kuro’s strikes without pain did Kuro stain his blade with Haki and keep going.
It was hell.
How did he earn the epithet ‘Black Wolf’?
By unleashing his rage after finally achieving Haki mastery!
After fighting pirates, the name stuck.
But Klah’s vengeance wasn’t just for himself—Sazil wasn’t enough anymore.
That cunning bastard learned quickly. Whenever Klah underwent training, Sazil fled on patrol missions, staying gone for weeks.
Leaving Klah with no choice but to take it out on pirates.
Now, at the sight of pirates, Klah’s instincts flared.
Not just duty as a Navy officer—
But crushing weaklings felt good!
Otherwise, what was the point of his training?!
Just to make Kuromr.’s strikes smoother?!
Forget that!
“‘Black Wolf’ Klah!”
Gale spat the name, grinding his teeth, “You Navy bastards killed Frank! I’ll avenge him!”
“Who?” Klah blinked, startled. He’d just heard that name…
“Frank!” Gale roared, “The one you Navy captured, then killed during the Top War! You haven’t forgotten, have you? He was a great pirate!”
“Ah…”
Klah’s eyes narrowed.
In a flash, he vanished from the bow.
Hiss!!
A crimson arc sprayed from Gale’s chest as he collapsed, stiff and lifeless.
Klah stood behind him, his Navy-hooded cloak billowing. Without glancing back, he retracted his fingers, “Great pirate? Hardly.”
The pirates stared at Gale’s twitching body, disbelieving.
“C-Captain?!”
“Damn you, Monster!!” A pirate drew his blade, charging Klah, “I’ll never surrender!”
“Good,” Klah’s wolfish eyes gleamed, his human lips curling into a bloodthirsty grin. “Kuromr.’s subordinates never take prisoners. If you surrender, I’d have to think of excuses to justify killing you.”
Clang!
His clawed hand seized the blade mid-swing. Klah loomed over the pirate in his half-beast form, fangs bared.
“Come, let’s see how well you endure the terror of Officer Klah!”
