Chapter 497: The Harvest
Chapter 497: The Harvest
September 25, 2017
To Lu HaiKong's slight surprise, Ma Pin's martial prowess did not increase significantly.
Lu HaiKong had initially thought that Ma Pin's martial prowess might directly surpass 90, but he never expected it to stall at 85.
However, despite the modest increase in martial prowess, Ma Pin's talent had grown considerably.
It reached the top-tier, with a martial growth of 95, and he even gained a question mark-bearing warrior trait. With this, it seemed that Ma Pin had indeed gained some benefits from his misfortune.
But Lu HaiKong still felt that it wasn't as simple as it seemed. The mutation on the 'Failed Elixir of Immortality' made Lu HaiKong suspect that it wasn't just a simple 'cosmetic' change.
However, he couldn't discern anything at the moment, so Lu HaiKong could only advise Ma Pin to be more cautious.
Lu HaiKong was naturally reserved with his emotions; the more sincere they were, the less likely he was to express them.
Therefore, after Ma Pin's recovery, Lu HaiKong no longer felt the previous tension, as if nothing had happened, and he let Ma Pin go about his business.
Lu HaiKong, however, turned his attention to the items he had yet to examine.
After a battle where he consecutively slew three generals, two historical warriors, and a Yellow Turban Divine General with a martial prowess of 92, the harvest was indeed impressive.
Before this, Lu HaiKong had only slain one historical warrior, and that was of the kind that Pei YuanShao had killed three of. At that time, Pei YuanShao had given Lu HaiKong a considerable harvest.
So, for the second and third historical warriors he had slain, Lu HaiKong was quite eager to see what rare items they might drop.
However, the items dropped by the three warriors were already gathered together, and it was hard to tell which warrior had dropped which item. But these items seemed to have no need for such distinction.
Lu HaiKong had already set aside the pile of items while searching for Ma Pin's medicine, and now he picked up the two most distinctive items with the clearest use and purpose.
These two items were the warrior stones of Gao Sheng and Zhang Bao, and Lu HaiKong's Shrine of Spirits had gained two more inheritances.
"I wonder if the Shrine of Spirits will gain a new Taoist inheritance if I use Zhang Bao's warrior stone?"
Lu HaiKong spoke as he collected the two warrior stones, then turned his attention to the pile of items.
For this kind of item drop from historical warriors, Lu HaiKong had already discerned a pattern: warrior stones were guaranteed, as were the secret manuals and martial skills they cultivated.
"Earthbound Heart Technique," "Earthbound Blade Technique," "Book of Tranquility Arts," "Fire School Spells."
Among the pile of items, there were four books in total. The first two were obviously from Gao Sheng, while the latter two were from Zhang Bao.
Lu HaiKong wasn't particularly interested in the two martial skills. He had seen many such skills and had no interest in the secret manuals cultivated by those he could defeat with a single axe. Instead, he was intrigued by Zhang Bao's "Book of Tranquility Arts" and "Fire School Spells."
After all, the allure of the unknown was always greater.
Moreover, Zhang Bao's performance had left a deep impression on Lu HaiKong. To be honest, Lu HaiKong's victory over Zhang Bao was truly a stroke of luck.
"Book of Tranquility Arts"
Book Type: Taoist Manual
Cultivation Requirements: Politics: 60
"Fire School Spells"
Book Type: Spell Manual
Cultivation Requirements: Mastery of a Taoist Manual, Strategy: 60
These were the descriptions of the two books, but Lu HaiKong was more interested in their content than these superficial data.
The so-called Book of Tranquility Arts, what does it contain, and what principles do these so-called spells follow? Lu HaiKong was quite curious about these.
However, after flipping through the book for a while, Lu HaiKong could only shake his head and close it.
These two books were of a kind where every word made sense individually, but when put together, they made no sense at all.
It wasn't that they were completely unlearnable; it was just that it would take an incredibly long time to master them. At least, Lu HaiKong knew he couldn't possibly cultivate anything useful from them in a short time.
"I wonder if anyone in my family can cultivate these?" Lu HaiKong said as he put away the two secret manuals and turned his attention back to the pile of items.
After defeating three opponents, Lu HaiKong had indeed acquired quite a haul. The items he had sorted through were not even half of the entire pile.
There were still eight items left: three tokens, three talismans, a jade pendant, and a scroll.
The three talismans were the Warrior Summoning Talisman, the Mysterious Merchant Summoning Talisman, and the Divine Power Enhancement Talisman.
The Mysterious Merchant Summoning Talisman was self-explanatory; Lu HaiKong had used it before and knew what it was, so he simply put it away in his pocket. He then used the Appraisal Technique on the remaining two items.
Warrior Summoning Talisman
Item Type: Mystery/Consumable
Item Description: A mysterious talisman with a drawing by General Zhang Bao, the Earth Monarch, which took three days to complete.
Usage Requirements: None
Item Effect: Upon tearing the talisman, it summons around ten thousand Yellow Turban warriors. The warriors will remain for half a day.
Divine Power Enhancement Talisman
Item Type: Mystery/Consumable/Military
Item Description: A talisman with a drawing by General Zhang Bao, the Earth Monarch, which took three days to complete. Using this talisman significantly increases the strength of soldiers.
Usage Requirements: None
Item Effect: It boosts the strength of legions with fewer than five thousand soldiers by a hundred percent for two hours.
"Not bad, two more talismans that are useful for now," Lu HaiKong said with a smile as he put away the talismans and picked up the jade pendant and scroll.
Radiant Pendant
Item Type: Mystery/Consumable
Item Description: A one-time magical artifact crafted by a highly skilled Daoist master.
Usage Requirements: None
Item Effect: After use, it teleports the user twenty li away from their original location to a random place.
Lu HaiKong compared this jade pendant to the ones Zhang Fei and Guan Yu had used under the Ye City walls. Of course, Lu HaiKong was unaware of this, but when he saw the attributes of this pendant, he knew he had gained another hidden trump card.
However, Lu HaiKong was unaware of one drawback of such artifacts: they couldn't be used in front of highly skilled Daoist masters. If Zhang Fei and Guan Yu hadn't been struck by the purple divine thunder earlier, they would have had a hard time trying to escape from Zhang Jiao.
But Daoist masters of Zhang Jiao's caliber were few and far between, and besides, Lu HaiKong didn't intend to use this item himself.
He had his own absolute trump cards!
