Chapter 494: The Burst of the Disciples' Gold Coins (8k) (Part 1)
Chapter 494: The Burst of the Disciples' Gold Coins (8k) (Part 1)
Konoha, the Southern Forest.
"Iwabee!"
Iwabee, the rock dog, let out a warning bark before gathering earth-style chakra to create a boulder above Kakashi.
Whoosh! A flash of lightning split the boulder, which was as big as a washbasin, into two.
"Purple Lightning!"
A dense web of purple lightning then enveloped the split boulders, shattering them into tiny pieces.
Seeing Kakashi pulverize the boulder, Iwabee's blue eyes sparkled with excitement, and he continued to gather rocks to hurl at Kakashi.
"Riolu, show me your fastest speed and strongest power! You can still get stronger!"
Might Guy, with weights strapped to his body, was doing a handstand walk while dodging the punches thrown by Riolu.
Riolu focused his gaze, and his flexible and robust body, enhanced by chakra, emitted a faint white glow, signifying a sudden boost in speed.
Instead of charging straight at Might Guy, Riolu abruptly changed direction just a meter away from him, increasing his speed even further as he attempted to ram into Might Guy from the side.
Bang!
"Your speed is impressive, but your strength needs a little more work," Might Guy said as he supported himself with one hand on the ground while effortlessly catching the charging Riolu with the other.
"However, to have achieved this level at such a young age is remarkable." Might Guy released Riolu and performed a backflip to return to a standing position.
Riolu was only a few months old, yet his speed and strength had already surpassed that of a fourth-grade student at the Ninja Academy. Even Might Guy was astonished by this incredible growth rate.
"Come on, Charmander, you can do better than that! Your flames are too weak."
Obito, having noticed that his flames had overwhelmed Charmander's, quickly cut off his chakra supply to avoid harming the little Pokemon.
He was currently engaged in a fire-style jutsu showdown with Charmander.
After spending some time with their Pokemon, they had gradually found a balance between training and nurturing their companions. They would first undergo high-intensity training and then, when their stamina was running low, exercise together with their Pokemon.
This approach benefited both the training of their Pokemon and their own cultivation.
For instance, Kakashi continued to refine his Lightning Blade jutsu, Might Guy focused on physical training, and Obito worked on his chakra control.
"Char!"
Charmander opened his mouth and released a tiny spark, indicating that he had truly exhausted his chakra.
After all, he was still a newborn, and his flames couldn't compare to Obito's.
"Since you're out of chakra, let's work on physical training," Obito said, preparing to lead Charmander through some endurance exercises.
Based on Iwabee's performance, Obito believed that Charmander still had some way to go before catching up.
Aware of the pitfalls of falling behind, Obito was determined not to let his ninja Pokemon lag behind Kakashi's.
"For every ten minutes of extra training, I'll give you one extra shrimp for dinner," Obito added.
Obito had accidentally discovered Charmander's love for shrimp, and to motivate him to train harder, he decided to offer a special reward.
Charmander, who had been about to sit down and rest, stood up again, indicating that he wasn't that tired if shrimp was on the line.
"Aren't they adorable, Hinata?" Hinata Hyuga, resting after her training session, gazed at the pond where Uglyfish was staring blankly at Kakashi and the others. "It's so heartwarming to see them like this."
By conventional aesthetic standards, Uglyfish's appearance would not be considered beautiful, but Hinata had chosen this name with the hope that the Pokemon would develop self-confidence and discover its unique beauty.
After spending some time together, Hinata had come to realize that Uglyfish possessed many admirable qualities.
It was easy to care for and not picky about food, eating just about anything. Moreover, it appeared to be growing healthily.
Uglyfish was incredibly fast at swimming but tended to be rather dull and slow in other aspects.
It was also very considerate and attentive to Hinata's feelings, remaining still and silent whenever she spoke, as if patiently waiting for her to finish.
Uglyfish's vacant gaze shifted from Kakashi and the others to Hinata, its body twitching slightly as if nodding in agreement.
After resting, Hinata tended to Uglyfish's body, giving it a thorough grooming before resuming their training.
Uglyfish remained in the pond, its vacant stare fixed on Hinata, as if deep in thought.
"It's truly a blessing to be Master Mu Yue's disciple," Yamato said, his heart filled with sincerity as he witnessed the harmonious scene.
Just being in Mu Yue's presence made Yamato feel unconsciously relaxed, his mind and body experiencing a sense of tranquility.
Not only was Mu Yue exceptional, but her other disciples were also admirable individuals.
"Kakashi-senpai may seem strict, but he has a gentle heart," Yamato thought back to the time when Kakashi had generously paid for his meal, understanding his financial constraints.
"Obito-senpai sometimes says things I don't quite understand, but he's a good person, too."
Yamato hadn't interacted much with Obito, but the latter had treated him to a delightful array of snacks the previous day, and his friendly demeanor had left a positive impression.
"While chakra control and jutsu training are crucial, combat abilities are equally important for a ninja," Mu Yue said as she arranged a sparring session for Yamato.
"Kakashi, take a break from your training and act as Yamato's opponent."
Mu Yue called over Kakashi, who had been about to continue his own practice.
At the mention of sparring with Yamato, Kakashi's eyes lit up with keen interest, and he instinctively clenched his fists in anticipation.
He recalled a certain someone in Loulan who had taken advantage of a sparring session to deliver a powerful blow to his head.
"Kakashi-senpai, I hope you won't be too harsh on me this time," Yamato said, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
He felt that their relationship had grown closer, and he expected Kakashi to show him a little more gentleness.
However, as Kakashi approached with a smile on his face, Yamato began to feel apprehensive.
He would have preferred the stoic, expressionless Kakashi.
Although the mask concealed half of Kakashi's face, the smile in his eyes was unmistakable.
Yamato considered asking for a different opponent, but he didn't want to hurt Kakashi's feelings, especially after the older ninja had treated him to a meal.
Finally, with a hint of reluctance, Yamato assumed a combat stance.
"Begin!" Mu Yue declared the start of the training session.
As soon as Mu Yue gave the signal, Kakashi focused his breathing to enter a state of extreme concentration, his world transforming in his eyes.
While there was a slight sense of overkill, Kakashi agreed with the sentiment that giving one's all was a sign of respect for one's opponent, and he certainly respected Yamato, the future leader of the ANBU.
Whoosh!
Before Yamato knew it, Kakashi, surrounded by electrical arcs, had vanished from his sight. Just as Yamato tried to locate Kakashi, a sinful hand descended upon his head.
Bang!
Kakashi's precise hand strike landed on Yamato's head, causing a momentary pause in his thoughts.
Without hesitation, Yamato ignored the discomfort and channeled chakra into his feet, delivering a swift spinning kick.
Yamato, who had been thrown away, quickly formed the necessary hand seals and spat out a water dragon that charged towards Kakashi.
Zzz!
Kakashi gathered chakra in his hand and channeled it along his palm into the White Fang, extending lightning from the tip of the blade to elongate it. With a relaxed expression, he casually swung the blade, slicing through the water dragon.
The current Yamato was far weaker than the Dark Unit Captain from Loulan. In a real battle, he might not even be a match for a regular Jonin, let alone Kakashi, who had unlocked the Transparent World.
"Water Style..."
Yamato wanted to use the Great Waterfall Technique to create a favorable environment for himself, but the lightning kunai that Kakashi threw at him forced him to adjust his position.
However, Kakashi didn't give Yamato any opportunity to catch his breath. With an extreme burst of speed, Kakashi closed in on Yamato and delivered a powerful elbow strike that knocked him to the ground.
"Kakashi-senpai isn't gentle at all; he's so strict!" Yamato felt dejected after being thoroughly beaten.
Mu Yue called for a pause in the battle, allowing Yamato to rest.
"If you wish to battle against other types of ninjas, you can choose someone else as your opponent." Mu Yue suggested after some thought.
Yamato's eyes lit up at the idea, and he felt that Obito would be a good choice, as he seemed much easier to get along with than Kakashi.
"Teacher Mu Yue, let me train with Obito-senpai," Yamato requested, opting to replace Kakashi with Obito.
Mu Yue nodded in agreement and called Obito over.
"Me? Alright, then." Obito replied, rubbing his palms together in anticipation.
To be honest, it had been a long time since Obito had enjoyed the thrill of crushing a less skilled opponent.
After all, Mu Yue only had a handful of disciples, and aside from Yahiko, Obito didn't feel confident about guaranteeing a win against any of them.
But there was no way Obito would fight Yahiko. For one, she was a medical ninja, and secondly, she was someone he liked. How could he possibly fight someone he cared for?
Moreover, Yamato was no ordinary ninja; he was the future captain of the Root Organization. By extension, defeating Yamato was tantamount to defeating the future leader of the Root.
After a brief rest, Yamato began his battle with Obito.
"Breath of Flames, Full Concentration!"
At the start of the battle, Obito immediately focused his breathing to enter a state of heightened chakra control, enhancing his fire style abilities.
He recalled that Yamato's wood style jutsu was no trivial matter, and regular fire style techniques might not be effective.
"Earth Style: Rock Spikes!"
Yamato swiftly formed the necessary hand seals, causing three rock spikes to shoot out of the ground towards Obito.
"Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"
Obito gathered a massive amount of chakra in his throat and converted it into flames, which he then spat out.
Hiss! Hiss!
Intense flames engulfed Obito, and the rock spikes that were charging towards him couldn't withstand the scorching heat, crumbling into fragments.
Obito continued to channel chakra, causing the flames to grow larger and spread into a fierce inferno.
Yamato: ...
How am I supposed to fight this? Yamato felt even more frustrated than when he faced Kakashi.
Yamato attempted to use water style jutsu to extinguish Obito's flames.
However, compared to Obito's flames, enhanced by the Breath of Flames, Yamato's water style techniques were half-baked and ineffective. The water streams he created were completely evaporated by Obito's intense fire.
Facing the three fire dragons that split from the inferno, Yamato could only surrender.
"So this is the strength of the future captain of the Root," Obito boasted, puffing out his chest. From now on, he could claim to be a ninja who had defeated the future leader of the Root.
"Obito-senpai is so strict during battles, too..." Yamato felt even more dejected.
Although he didn't get physically beaten this time, the battle had taken a toll on his mental state.
He had used a water style jutsu to counter Obito's fire style, only to be overwhelmed by his opponent. It was a bit demoralizing.
"They've been training for several more years than me; the gap in raw strength is just too vast." Yamato tried to console himself.
"Teacher Mu Yue, how about we get Itachi to join us?" Yamato suggested, hoping to change opponents again.
Yamato wasn't sure how old Itachi was, but he seemed slightly younger than Kakashi and Obito. He was probably only one or two years older than Yamato, so the gap in their strength shouldn't be too wide.
"Alright." Mu Yue nodded and called Itachi over.
"Itachi-senpai," Yamato greeted politely.
Itachi smiled and nodded in response. Although they hadn't interacted much in Loulan, Itachi had formed a good impression of Yamato.
According to Kakashi, much of the information they had about the future was provided by Yamato.
"Itachi-senpai, please fight me as you would in a normal battle. There's no need to hold back," Yamato requested, noticing Itachi's gentle demeanor.
He felt that Itachi, being Mu Yue's second youngest disciple, was probably much weaker than Kakashi and the others. Additionally, as a future pillar of Konoha's ninja forces, Itachi might hold back to avoid crushing him.
If the other disciples saw that, it might be a bit embarrassing for Itachi as their senior.
"I understand," Itachi nodded, thinking that Yamato was the type of ninja who enjoyed challenging himself. He quickly modified his battle plan to accommodate Yamato's request.
Initially, Itachi had planned to suppress his strength to avoid overwhelming Yamato and damaging his confidence.
But since Yamato had made the request, Itachi, ever the accommodating person, decided to fulfill his wish by going all out.
"Begin!" Mu Yue signaled the start of the training session.
As soon as Mu Yue gave the signal, Yamato burst into action, channeling chakra to test Itachi's taijutsu skills.
"His eyes turned red," Yamato noticed, observing the three tomoe markings in Itachi's blood-red eyes.
Yamato wasn't sure what ability this was, but he continued his charge towards Itachi, engaging in what he believed to be a "fierce battle."
Watching Yamato enthusiastically punching the air and looking exhilarated, Kakashi shook his head. Why did he have to pick Itachi of all people? It was like asking for trouble.
In the midst of Yamato's 'intense battle,' he suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. Instinctively, he turned to see Itachi standing right behind him.
Yamato was bewildered. No matter how fast Itachi was, there should have been some indication that he was using the Body Flicker Technique.
"You were just under a genjutsu," Itachi explained, seeing the confusion on Yamato's face.
Yamato's face turned crimson as he realized what had happened. He couldn't help but feel ashamed, thinking about how he must have looked to the others.
What 'evenly matched'? He had been defeated by Itachi in an instant.
"Itachi-senpai, how old are you this year?" Yamato blurted out, unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
