Chapter 493: World Destroyer
Chapter 493: World Destroyer
"Seven Warlords of the Sea?"
Klah adjusted his glasses. "You, who slaughtered your own kind in Rocky Port—do you really think you're worthy of being a Seven Warlords of the Sea?"
"Huh? Isn't that exactly what the Seven Warlords of the Sea are for? Pirates fighting pirates", Lida shrugged.
Klah: "...".
Now that he mentioned it, that was kind of true.
Kuro glanced at the still-thumping heart inside the box. With a flick of his finger, a shockwave rippled through the floor beneath it, sending the box soaring into the air to hover before him.
He clicked his tongue. "These abilities sure are convenient. Even now, its heart’s still beating."
"Same to you."
Law replied, "You don’t exactly have the right to lecture me."
"I’ll take this. Now scram. You’re not a Seven Warlords of the Sea yet."
Kuro shot him a glance. "Stay longer, and you might get caught in a tsunami."
Whoosh!
Before the last word left his mouth, Law didn’t waste another breath. His body shimmered and vanished, leaving only a stone behind.
Law’s aura now rested aboard the yellow-hulled pirate ship docked at the harbor.
Watching the ship sail off, Kuro smirked and floated the box toward Klah.
"The World Government’s coming. Hand this over to them. Don’t bother explaining anything."
With that, Kuro turned and strode back toward his base.
A few days later, the World Government announced the final appointment to the Seven Warlords of the Sea: Trafalgar Law.
The last vacancy among the Seven Warlords of the Sea had finally been filled.
Law had already gained immense fame through the Rokkaku Port Incident, his reputation rivaling even the long-vanished ‘Luffy’ who’d been absent for over a year and a half. Alongside Eustass Kid, who’d carved his name in the New World by raiding Charlotte Big Mom’s fleet and even challenging ‘Shanks’ (though he’d failed), the three had become the de facto leaders among last year’s Super Novas.
Especially Eustass Kid. Rumors said he’d caused chaos in the New World, seizing several of Big Mom’s ships and even daring to confront Shanks.
But he’d failed.
"Go to the New World. All of you."
Inside his office, Kuro leaned back in his chair, pouring himself a drink as he gazed out the window. "Don’t let your antics interfere with my peaceful retirement."
...
A corner of the Grand Line.
Pitch black night.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Cannons rained destruction across the sea.
Three warships guarded a towering vessel, bombarding the small boats darting beneath them—pirates dodging cannonballs with frantic agility. The battle had reached a stalemate.
"Captain Jack the Disaster!"
Across from the warships, a half-submerged ship bore a towering figure with a frail, elderly man perched on his shoulder.
"How long has it been?" the giant asked.
"About eight minutes, cough cough", the old man rasped, breaking into a fit of coughs.
"Too slow."
The giant paused, then barked, "Nekomamushi, Gairam, Sebastian—show them how real combat works!"
"At once!"
Two figures emerged from behind him. Simultaneously, a massive shadow surfaced from the sea ahead.
...
"Buggy the Clown."
Shabondy.
Marine Headquarters.
Early morning.
Kuro was jolted awake by the ringing of the Transponder Snail on his wrist.
"What the hell?!"
He yanked the snail off, hung up without answering, and rolled over to keep sleeping.
But before he could drift off again, footsteps echoed outside.
Bang!
The door burst open.
"Big Brother Kuro! It’s terrible!"
Sengoku’s thunderous voice shook the room, making Kuro shudder.
Bang!
Kuro sat up, flicked his finger, and a glass on the table flew toward Sengoku.
Smash!
Sengoku caught it mid-air. "Big Brother Kuro! Something’s happened!"
"You bastard did that on purpose!"
Kuro gritted his teeth. "Don’t you know I have a temper in the morning? What’s so urgent? Did the Revolutionary Army blow up Mariejois? Or did some idiot world noble get assassinated by a sneaking pirate?!"
"Mariejois wouldn’t get blown up! But… a world noble was killed by a pirate", Sengoku admitted.
"Huh?"
Kuro blinked. "Which idiot pulled that off? Did Luffy come back early?"
That didn’t make sense. There should still be six months left!
"Luffy? He’s vanished. What comeback?" Sengoku frowned.
"Never mind. What do you want?" Kuro asked.
"This! This!"
Sengoku shoved a newspaper into Kuro’s hands. "Big news!"
The headlines screamed across the page: [‘World Destroyer’ Emerges!] [Island Vanishes Overnight!] [Warship Guarding World Nobles Sunk!]
"World Destroyer?"
Kuro stared at the paper, the last traces of sleep vanishing.
"Buggy the Clown?" Kuro guessed uncertainly.
"That’s him! He’s back!"
Sengoku nodded. "Gramps tried calling you but couldn’t get through. He reached me instead. Fleet Admiral Sakazuki is inviting you to a call meeting."
"Huh? What’s this got to do with me?" Kuro blinked.
But moments later, he was in his office, summoning Lida and Klah. Sengoku used the office Transponder Snail to connect to the New Marine Headquarters.
The call connected quickly, revealing a stern face on the screen.
Sakazuki.
"Kuro, did you see the newspaper?" the voice came directly.
"I did."
Kuro tapped the paper, glancing at Lida and Klah reading it beside him. "Honestly, this mad dog bites everything. All these headlines—this guy’s work, right?"
The paper detailed not just the world noble and Marine attacks, but also the destruction of islands and the elimination of high-bounty pirate crews.
"Oh~ How scary", Lucius Kro’s voice chimed in from the Transponder Snail. "Kuro, we’re just letting you know—this man’s no ordinary threat."
Another unfamiliar voice joined: "The World Government believes Buggy the Clown is responsible for all the incidents in the newspaper."
"Blamenco?" Kuro muttered.
The Navy’s meeting-obsessed officer. He knew him well.
"Yes, Vice Admiral Kuro. This is Blamenco."
The voice continued, "The government sent out messenger bats three days ago, summoning the Seven Warlords of the Sea."
"Hmph. They bypassed us and went straight to the Seven Warlords?" Sakazuki’s voice carried clear displeasure.
"That’s only natural."
Another unfamiliar voice joined the call.
Hibari.
"After all, this man has been branded the ‘World Destroyer’ by the government. This summons isn’t just about protecting Mariejois—it’s to prevent any of the Seven Warlords from contacting him. Kuro, your role is clear: secure Mariejois and guard your current base."
