Chapter 493: Mu Yue's Pokemon Egg (8k) (Part 2)
Chapter 493: Mu Yue's Pokemon Egg (8k) (Part 2)
"Don't admit it, huh? Then prove it with actions," Kakashi said calmly.
Ever since Charmander had hatched, Obito had been itching to show that he was the true deputy of the team.
Tobirama was stunned. Who would've thought that instead of ninja tools, Kakashi had test papers in his pouch?
Yamato scratched his head, feeling a bit perplexed by this turn of events.
Even though this whole situation had started because of him, he now felt like an innocent bystander caught up in it all.
"These are all topics that Teacher Mu Yue has taught us, so no one should have any trouble with them, right?" Kakashi said as he glanced at Hanabi.
"Well, even though we've covered these topics, getting a perfect score might be challenging. After all, it has been some time, and people have different learning abilities. But passing shouldn't be too difficult," Hanabi replied, looking at Kakashi and then at Tobirama.
Kakashi sighed theatrically. "You're right, Hanabi. I didn't consider the differences in abilities. Maybe we should forget about the tests..."
As Kakashi pretended to put the test papers back into his pouch, Tobirama couldn't hold back any longer.
"Wait, Kakashi! I'll show you today what it means to score 80 out of 100 on the Chunin exam!" Tobirama exclaimed confidently as he grabbed Kakashi's hand.
At the same time, he also stopped Yamato, who was about to leave. Tobirama wanted to prove that he was smarter than Yamato.
A slight smile played on Kakashi's lips as he realized how easy it was to manipulate Tobirama.
Kakashi then showed the three identical test papers to Tobirama and Yamato before handing one to each of them.
Yamato stared at the paper, bewildered. He recognized the individual characters, but when they were combined, they seemed to form a foreign language.
"Is this the script of Fire Country? It must be some foreign language that just looks similar," Yamato thought to himself.
Seeing Yamato on the verge of fainting, Tobirama couldn't help but snicker. This was a rite of passage for anyone who became Mu Yue's disciple.
"Why don't you suggest to Teacher Mu Yue that we restart the intensive problem-solving training?" Tobirama said with a hint of mischief, thinking about how Yamato would react to the idea of facing an ever-growing mountain of problems.
Tobirama shuddered involuntarily as he recalled the hellish training. However, he quickly shook his head to dismiss the thought.
That was a Pandora's box that must never be opened again, for if it were, not only Yamato but everyone else would suffer, as Mu Yue always treated everyone equally. If there were tests, everyone would have to take them.
As these thoughts swirled in his mind, Tobirama happened to glance at Kakashi and noticed that he had already solved several problems.
This shocked Tobirama, and he immediately began working on the test.
However, as he started, he encountered a significant problem. He vaguely remembered Mu Yue explaining these problems, but he couldn't recall the solutions. All he could remember was his own flawed approach to solving them.
"Damn it! So, all I remember are the wrong ways to solve them," Tobirama thought bitterly.
His initial confidence in passing the test began to waver.
Tobirama took a deep breath and reminded himself that he still had a trump card, albeit a slightly shameful one. At least it would ensure he didn't fail and embarrass himself after his bold claims.
"Doton: Earth Flow Wall!"
A thin wall with a dog's head rose between Kakashi and Tobirama, blocking Tobirama's view.
Tobirama: ...
His trump card was gone.
He had intended to cheat by discreetly activating his Sharingan and copying the answers from Kakashi's test.
Tobirama became agitated and began fidgeting, scratching his ears and cheeks.
However, when he saw Yamato next to him, deep in thought as if grappling with life's greatest philosophical questions, Tobirama couldn't help but laugh. His own agitation faded away as he found amusement in Yamato's predicament.
Looking at Yamato, Tobirama felt like he was seeing a reflection of his former self.
Tobirama then focused on the test, determined to at least avoid making the same mistakes he had made previously. He wanted to minimize the number of wrong answers, even if he couldn't get them all right.
"I'm done." An hour later, Kakashi put down his pen and used his chakra control to lower the earthen wall back into the ground.
There weren't many questions on the test, and since they were all topics that Mu Yue had covered, Kakashi finished relatively quickly.
"Kakashi-senpai, please take away this paper with unrecognizable scribbles," Yamato pleaded, his mind clouded from the mental exertion.
Tobirama gave Yamato a sympathetic look, understanding the feeling of being overwhelmed by Mu Yue's tests.
Bang!
Kakashi tapped Yamato's head with his index and middle fingers. "What nonsense are you spouting? These are clearly the characters of Fire Country."
"Tobirama, are you done?" Kakashi turned to Tobirama.
Tobirama's eyes widened as he saw Kakashi's test paper filled with answers. He felt the pressure and quickly picked up his pen again, frantically trying to recall Mu Yue's lessons.
And so, Kakashi and Yamato watched as Tobirama spent another hour working on the test.
Aware of their gazes and the occasional grumbling sounds from Yamato's stomach, Tobirama dared not pause for a moment. When he finally finished, he was so anxious that he didn't even bother to review his answers before declaring himself done.
Grumble...
Yamato's stomach rumbled again, but neither Tobirama nor Kakashi paid any heed as they began grading each other's tests based on the answers Kakashi had noted down.
"The competition among Teacher Mu Yue's disciples is intense," Yamato thought to himself, impressed.
Even during his secret training with Danzo Shimura in Konoha, he had never felt this level of hunger. At least back then, the Root members had brought him food regularly.
"Perfect score," Tobirama said reluctantly as he handed his paper back to Kakashi.
Although he wanted to give Kakashi a lower score, he had to admit that Kakashi had paid attention during Mu Yue's lessons and recorded most of the key points.
"I'd say around 50 points. You shouldn't have daydreamed and wasted time. If you had focused, you probably would have passed," Tobirama added, grading his own test at the same time.
Since he had just finished the test, he could still remember his answers.
Tobirama was relieved that Hanabi had left already, as he would have been embarrassed to receive a failing grade in front of her.
"Sixty, a passing grade," Kakashi announced, echoing Tobirama's own assessment.
Tobirama's eyes widened in disbelief. Had he misremembered his own answers?
"Tsk, you were so close to a perfect score. It's a shame I can't rub your face in the dirt," Kakashi whispered, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
Although Kakashi spoke softly, Tobirama, who was sitting close by, caught the words.
"Hey, did you just say something unforgivable?" Tobirama asked, his face reddening.
However, as he had passed the test on his own merit, Tobirama chose to let it slide, feeling rather pleased with himself.
"So, can I go home and eat now?" Yamato asked weakly.
He was truly hungry, and all he wanted was to leave the Southern Border Forest and get something to eat.
"Sanma (grilled pacific saury) and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers)!" Kakashi replied eagerly.
"No problem!" Tobirama agreed enthusiastically, only to realize that it was Kakashi who had spoken.
"No way, sanma is out of the question, and yakitori is even more out of the question!" Tobirama quickly changed his mind.
Yamato was a little confused. He felt that he would once again be missing out on a meal.
Based on his recent experiences, whenever these two started to disagree, they would usually argue for at least ten minutes.
Kakashi quietly pulled out a photo and said, "Treat me to a meal, and this photo is yours."
Tobirama immediately lunged for the photo, but Kakashi nimbly dodged him.
"Fine, I'll treat you, but you mustn't go back on your word," Tobirama said, brushing the dust off his clothes as he reluctantly agreed.
A photo secretly taken by Kakashi during their civil war was a source of pain for Tobirama, and he desperately wanted to burn it to ashes.
"As everyone knows, I, Kakashi, always keep my promises," Kakashi assured him.
In fact, Kakashi was indeed planning to give the photo to Tobirama, as he had a hundred identical copies at home, and even if he gave away ninety-nine of them, it wouldn't matter.
Thanks to Kakashi's clever move, the competition ended much earlier than Yamato had anticipated.
"Finally, we can eat," Yamato said, feeling grateful to Kakashi.
Subsequently, Tobirama and Kakashi took the hungry Yamato out for a meal.
As it was already evening, various street vendors were setting up their stalls, so Tobirama decided to forgo a proper dinner and instead, took Yamato on a culinary tour of the different vendors.
Before they had started working on the test papers, Tobirama had already sent a shadow clone back home to inform his grandmother, so it wasn't a problem if they returned a little later.
Although they didn't have a proper dinner, the variety of snacks they sampled left Yamato quite satisfied. His meager allowance wouldn't have allowed him to indulge in such treats.
"Tobirama isn't so bad after all," Yamato thought, feeling appreciative.
Although Tobirama had dragged him into doing the test papers, he had also treated him to delicious snacks, and that counted for something.
"Kakashi, you must be full by now. Hand over the photo quickly," Tobirama said, eyeing Kakashi's ninja tools pouch.
At that moment, he felt like using a Fireball Jutsu to blow up Kakashi's pouch, as it contained not only test papers but also the embarrassing photo.
"Here, take it," Kakashi said nonchalantly, handing the photo to Tobirama.
Tobirama immediately snatched it and took two steps back, warily watching Kakashi, expecting him to try and snatch it back.
After all, this was the infamously mischievous silver-haired Kakashi, and Tobirama had every reason to be cautious.
"Could I have misjudged him?" Tobirama wondered, feeling that Kakashi wasn't acting like his usual self.
"It seems you're enjoying yourself today, so why don't you keep the photo as a memento? I can't be bothered to fight over it," Kakashi said, waving his hand dismissively as he turned to leave.
Kakashi's nonchalant attitude made Tobirama feel a bit awkward about his cautiousness, but to be safe, he decided to play it cool and immediately used a Fire Jutsu to burn the photo to ashes.
"Yamato, quickly use your Doton Jutsu to create a pit, and we'll bury the ashes," Tobirama instructed, wanting to ensure that the photo never resurfaced. He even considered the possibility of a resurrection Jutsu.
Yamato was a little puzzled but went along with Tobirama's request since he had just been treated to a meal.
As they watched the ashes of the photo disappear into the pit, Tobirama finally smiled, relieved that the embarrassing photo was gone for good.
From that day on, he no longer had to worry about Kakashi using the photo to blackmail him.
On their way home, Tobirama walked with a spring in his step. Not only had he passed the test, but he had also successfully destroyed that dreadful photo. Today had been a great day.
...
That evening, Mu Yue began developing a breathing technique unique to the Ninja Sect.
Simply mastering a breathing technique wouldn't expose his alias, as there were other ninja in the ninja world who knew breathing techniques, and some had even developed techniques related to breathing.
However, if Souyuukai were to suddenly use the Great Sunlight technique, then his cover would be blown, as this technique was highly distinctive, and no one in the ninja world had ever seen such a secret technique before.
Of course, the only ones who might suspect his identity would be Uchiha Madara and Black Zetsu, as they had more information about him.
Others might assume that the Great Sunlight technique wasn't his original creation or that one of them had stolen the technique from the other.
The breathing technique that Mu Yue was developing for the Ninja Sect was similar to the Dark Breathing Technique.
The orthodox breathing techniques were extremely challenging to cultivate. Despite Kakashi and the others progressing at an astonishing pace, it still took them a year or two to reach the Constant level, and some even awakened their Chakra Mode ahead of schedule.
There were several reasons for this. Firstly, the breathing techniques they practiced were well-suited to their individual attributes, and they also possessed exceptional talent.
Secondly, they had Mu Yue, their teacher, guiding them regularly, and they benefited from his skill-boosting abilities. Additionally, they would also receive the Enlightenment skill boost in the future.
Even with all these advantages, Kakashi and the others had faced numerous life-or-death situations along the way, and it was only by tapping into their hidden potential that they were able to break through their bottlenecks.
For ordinary people, cultivating breathing techniques like the Lightning or Rock Breathing would be incredibly difficult. Just mastering the basics would be a hurdle for most, and attaining the Constant level would require a significant amount of time.
As for the Chakra Mode, it was a realm that most people would never reach.
As for the Transparent World, it was simply out of the question. Even for his disciples, Mu Yue couldn't guarantee that they would all be able to awaken to this realm.
To awaken to the Transparent World, one needed either exceptional talent like Kakashi, who could tap into hidden potential during desperate situations, or one had to cultivate their breathing technique to perfection, which would inevitably lead to the Transparent World.
Both conditions were incredibly challenging to meet, and it was a rare occurrence.
If his disciples couldn't even cultivate the technique, then Mu Yue's teachings would be meaningless, so for ordinary students, he intended to develop simpler breathing techniques for them to practice.
After all, his goal was to spread this knowledge widely, not to select the elite few.
When developing the Dark Breathing Technique, Mu Yue had used the Lightning Breathing as a blueprint. The core focus of that technique was to maximize instantaneous bursts of power.
To differentiate it from the Dark Breathing Technique, Mu Yue decided to use the Rock Breathing as the foundation for this new technique.
As a derivative of the Rock Breathing, this new breathing technique would primarily focus on enhancing physical attributes.
Mu Yue planned to further divide this technique into two sub-categories. One would emphasize strengthening physical strength, and he would modify the Stormfoot technique to complement this style.
The other would focus on enhancing defensive capabilities, with the Iron Block technique serving as the corresponding skill.
Since this was already a weakened version of the original breathing technique, maintaining a balanced approach would result in less effective techniques.
