Chapter 493: Disaster Strikes Kyoto
Chapter 493: Disaster Strikes Kyoto
"Rest assured," Emperor Manina XIII said with confidence.
"Between Huaxia and Nihon, there are two seas: the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. The average depth of the Yellow Sea is 44 meters, while the Bohai Sea's average depth is only 18 meters. For monsters that are typically over 60 meters tall, these depths are nothing more than puddles. Do you really think this will be a challenge for them?"
"Uh, I didn't think of that," Commander Lance said, his face turning red.
As the overall commander, he should have considered this, and it was embarrassing that he hadn't.
"Alright, Lance," Manina said, not intending to mock his subordinate. "Inform all the far-reaching military bases on Blue Star to activate the gravity funnels!"
"Understood!" Lance turned and input the command on the main command platform, relaying the emperor's orders to every commander, officer, and soldier in the far-reaching military.
Blue Star — Nihon — Kyoto
After the gravity funnels were activated, the sky over Kyoto suddenly changed.
People on the streets were still walking as usual.
But suddenly, they noticed the sky darkening.
Looking up in surprise, they saw a massive red "funnel" in the sky, similar to a tornado on the American Great Plains.
However, this "funnel" was hundreds of times larger, covering the entire sky with a blood-red hue. Just one glance gave the impression of an impending apocalypse.
"What's happening?" (Nihonese)
"What is this?" (Nihonese)
People asked each other in shock, but no one could provide an answer.
The red "funnel" rapidly spun in the sky, and soon the sky turned pitch black. What was originally a sunny morning at 9 AM became a terrifying night.
As people trembled, a loud voice echoed from the sky: "You insects of Blue Star, come and enjoy this terrifying feast!" (Huaxiaese)
The Skrulls had translated this message into Huaxiaese.
Most Nihonese people didn't understand Huaxiaese and were still in a state of confusion.
However, a small number of Nihonese who knew Huaxiaese had their faces pale with fear upon hearing the message!
This time, it was really happening!
After 10 seconds of spinning, the red "funnel" in the sky was fully formed.
From the small opening at the bottom of the "funnel," gigantic monsters, each about 60 to 70 meters long, were thrown out.
Some of these monsters were heavily armored, with thick, hard shells covering their bodies.
Others were agile and powerful, resembling oversized tyrannosaurs. As soon as they landed, they charged menacingly toward the densely populated areas of Kyoto.
Some monsters were enveloped in massive psychic auras that emitted blinding light. Just one glance could render a person blind. These were the mages among the monsters.
There were also flying beasts that didn't even need to land. As soon as they emerged from the funnel, they soared freely in the sky above Kyoto.
What made it even more terrifying was that these monsters weren't acting completely on their own. Their actions were still controlled by the Skrulls.
Under the Skrulls' remote control, these monsters formed groups.
The heavily armored and powerful monsters targeted Nihon's industrial facilities, oil tanks, and warehouses.
The mage-type monsters focused on the urban areas, where their wide-area spells reduced buildings to rubble. The flying beasts, relying on their speed, launched surprise attacks on Nihon's military bases, airports, and ports.
The high-ranking officials of the Nihon government hastily boarded private planes to flee upon receiving the news.
However, under the relentless pursuit of a vast number of flying beasts, only a few managed to escape, while the majority were shot down before they even left the country.
But Nihon's Prime Minister, Fujiwara Chihana, had incredibly good luck. At the time of the crisis, she was not in Nihon but on a state visit to the southwestern country of Goryeo.
Upon receiving the desperate news from home, she quickly issued a global distress call in her capacity as the Prime Minister.
Back in Nihon, as the "Gravity Funnel" began to form, Su Yu, the cat Morning Star, and Senior Tao simultaneously looked toward the northeastern sky, their expressions turning grim.
Zhong Feng, although he had already reached the Fourth Stage of manifestation, did not have the strength to sense the monumental changes happening far away.
He asked, "Su Yu, Senior Tao, what's happening?"
"It's the 'Gravity Funnel,' it has opened," Senior Tao replied, his face heavy with concern.
"A 'Gravity Funnel'? Where did it appear?" Zhang Zhengwei exclaimed.
"In Nihon, in the largest city—Kyoto," Su Yu answered.
"Kyoto?"
Everyone present was momentarily speechless. They had speculated for a long time but never expected it to be in Kyoto.
Not long after, Chairman Hu Jing received a stream of information from Nihon. He transferred the permissions to Xue Wenli, who immediately analyzed the real-time footage of what was happening in Nihon and projected it on the screen.
Su Yu and the others quickly turned to the video feed.
The video showed a scene that could only be described as "overwhelming" with a horde of beasts wreaking havoc in the city. Kyoto had become a living hell.
Nihon was one of the world's leading economies, but its military capabilities were far from comparable. The sheer number of beasts overwhelmed Nihon's defenses, leaving the country with no means to resist.
In fact, even if such a horde were to attack a major city in Huaxia, the country would suffer severe damage, let alone Nihon.
The meeting room fell into an unimaginably heavy silence as they watched the tragedy unfolding in Nihon.
After about half a minute, Chairman Hu Jing was the first to speak, "Prime Minister Fujiwara Chihana has already sent us a distress call. How should we help?"
Zhang Zhengwei shook his head and leaned back in his chair, speaking slowly, "Chairman, this isn't something we can help with even if we want to."
"If we send our aircraft carrier group, we will likely lose the entire fleet without achieving any significant results, and we won't be able to save the people of Nihon."
"It's ironic, but all we can do is defend our own coastlines in Qilu and Jiangzhe. We are powerless to help those on the other side."
Chairman Hu Jing turned to Su Yu.
Su Yu also nodded, "I agree with Zhang Zhengwei's point. Our only option is to defend our home; we can't launch an offensive."
However, Chairman Hu Jing shook his head, "I understand what you're saying, and I know the cards we have in hand."
"But we must attempt to help, even if it's just for show. Otherwise, it will be a significant blow to human unity. Do you understand?"
