Chapter 492: Silent Sirius
Chapter 492: Silent Sirius
"Of course, why would I lie to you?" Under Kreacher's hopeful gaze, Ivan nodded.
The House-Elf's lips quivered, and his large eyes filled with tears, but he quickly remembered the Locket's miraculous properties and screamed in disbelief.
"It's impossible! Kreacher tried every method, Kreacher threw it into the fireplace, smashed it with a hammer, and even destructive Spells couldn't harm it!"
"I know! Other items left by Dark Magic are the same; special means are needed to destroy them!" Ivan interrupted Kreacher.
He was well aware of the difficulty in destroying a Horcrux. Only a few methods like Fiendfyre or a Basilisk Fang could destroy such an object.
More importantly, the Locket was engraved with numerous protective Runic Inscriptions, likely the work of Slytherin.
The Horcrux was hidden inside the Locket, and to destroy it, one either needed to speak Parseltongue to open the Locket or face the protective measures left by Slytherin.
Ivan couldn't help but marvel that, in a sense, Voldemort had done a thorough job in protecting his Horcruxes.
For example, placing Ravenclaw's Diadem in the Room of Requirement, which was filled with countless miscellaneous items, was like hiding a grain of sand in a desert, and the location of this desert was extremely secret.
Hufflepuff's Cup was even placed in Gringotts, and clearly, Voldemort had Gringotts, the "safest" place in the Wizarding World, guard his Horcrux.
In the original timeline, without Harry, who could sense the Horcruxes, finding them would have been extremely difficult.
However, for someone who knew the truth, most of Voldemort's methods were as good as nonexistent.
Seeing Ivan's confidence, Kreacher finally believed him a little.
"Wait, you're confusing me. If you want to destroy the item Regulus left behind, you should at least tell me why", Sirius said, frowning at Kreacher.
But the House-Elf only muttered that Regulus had ordered him to destroy the Locket.
"Kreacher, what was the command you received? Not to tell anyone? Or not to tell certain people?" Lupin, suddenly recalling some House-Elf Rules, asked cautiously.
Kreacher looked at Sirius but remained silent, and everyone immediately understood.
"Sirius, it seems you need to step aside. The command Kreacher received from Regulus probably forbids him from telling anyone from the Black Family", Ivan said, guessing.
Sirius was somewhat dissatisfied. He should be the one who most needed to know the truth, yet he had to leave.
Before Sirius could protest, Ivan gave him a meaningful look and mouthed the words "Disillusionment Charm." Sirius then understood and turned to leave.
"Now can you speak?" Ivan waited a moment, thinking Sirius should have returned, and looked at Kreacher.
Kreacher was completely unaware of Ivan's trick and thought Sirius had left. He stammered and began to recount the events of that year.
Ever since Sirius, at the age of sixteen, had abandoned the Pureblood Ideology and left home, his mother was heartbroken, and other pureblood families began to criticize the Black Family.
Regulus, to satisfy his family and restore the family's reputation, chose to join the Dark Lord's organization and became a proud Death Eater!
Because at that time, the ideals of the Dark Lord satisfied all the pure-blood families, and even some half-bloods.
After all, Wizards possessed magical powers, which allowed them to toy with Muggles at will. However, they were forced by the Ministry of Magic to hide within the magical world. This made many Wizards feel discontented; they wanted to change this situation!
And the Dark Lord was the hope of change in their eyes!
Because Voldemort promised them that after taking control of the magical world, all Wizards could freely use magic, and even rule over all Muggles and their descendants...
"So, Regulus also believed that Wizards should rule over Muggles, agreeing with Voldemort's ideals?" Harry couldn't help but interrupt Kreacher's words.
"Regulus said that the conflict between Wizards and Muggles will only grow larger in the future. Either Muggles will dominate Wizards, or Wizards will dominate Muggles. We can only delay that day; there is no possibility of easing the tension!" Kreacher opened his eyes wide, sobbing as he spoke.
"How could that be? We are living just fine now!
Wizards stay in the magical world, with their own way of life, and Muggles have their own way of living, without interfering with each other. Without Voldemort, everyone could live well!" Harry argued.
Lupin opened his mouth to speak but then closed it, and Ivan also wanted to contradict Kreacher's words but fell silent after some thought.
Can Muggles and Wizards really remain in peace forever?
Would Wizards, who possess magical powers, be willing to coexist peacefully with ordinary people without feeling superior?
And would Muggles allow a dangerous minority that can toy with and erase their memories to continue to exist?
Ivan didn't know the answer and didn't want to think about it anymore.
Kreacher ignored Harry's words and continued angrily.
"Regulus is different from that bad boy. He knew very well what the name Black and his pure blood meant."
Clearly, Kreacher believed that Sirius Black was partly responsible for Regulus's death.
Upon hearing Kreacher's words, Sirius, who had been hiding in the shadows with a Disillusionment Charm, fell silent.
He had felt liberated when he left home, but he had indeed forgotten the impact of his decision as the eldest son of the Black family and the pressure that Regulus, as the second son, would have to bear.
"Then what happened? How did he get the Locket, what is its purpose, and why did he want to destroy it?" Lupin asked.
"One year after Regulus joined the Dark Lord, one day, Regulus came to the kitchen to visit Kreacher. He told Kreacher... told Kreacher..." the old House-Elf screamed. "He said the Dark Lord needed a House-Elf!"
"Voldemort needed a House-Elf? Why?" Harry was puzzled, and Lupin was also confused.
"Oh, yes!" Kreacher's expression was pained. "Regulus offered Kreacher. It was an honor, and Kreacher had to follow the orders to do something!"
Kreacher kept shaking his head, and his breathing turned into sobs, but he slowly recounted his experience.
