Chapter 492: Sealing the Demon (First Update)
Chapter 492: Sealing the Demon (First Update)
If the Cursed Demon had followed its usual temperament, it would have first unleashed a torrent of demonic flames, then brutally tortured anyone who dared to oppose it until they doubted their very existence, until they despaired, and until they broke down in fear.
Because only by killing and devouring souls in such a state did it find them the most delicious.
However, today it did not do so. The main reason was the powerful soul of the brown-haired mage below, which made even the Cursed Demon feel a great sense of caution.
To prevent any unexpected incidents, it decided to break its usual routine and unleash its ultimate move to wipe out these human mages, devour their souls, and then slowly resume its game once its strength was restored.
"Be careful, it's about to start the Song of Curses!"
Erza and her companions had just taken off from the ground and were not yet in front of the Cursed Demon when a powerful chill suddenly washed over them, as if something extremely terrifying was about to happen in the next second.
At that moment, the Cursed Demon opened its mouth, and a massive Magic array appeared in front of it.
Eli Goyyle wondered how powerful the Song of Curses, which could kill all guild masters, would be when cast by the Cursed Demon itself.
Erza and the others were also feeling very uncertain.
"No way, I can't die like this! I just joined the guild and became a full-fledged mage. I don't even have a boyfriend yet!"
Below, Lucy, seeing the situation, was so frightened that she hugged Happy tightly.
"Hey, isn't that Jerry? When did he get there?"
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared on top of the giant monster. Upon closer inspection, it was indeed Jerry, who had been standing beside her just moments ago.
She had been wondering why Jerry, despite seeing such a massive monster, still maintained a calm expression, showing no signs of fear.
Ever since she met Jerry, she hadn't seen much of a change in his emotions.
"It's Jerry!"
Erza, hovering in mid-air with her black wings, saw Jerry's figure instantly appear on top of the Cursed Demon and felt a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
She knew Jerry wasn't as simple as he seemed.
The Magic he had used to appear instantly was a very rare type of Spatial Magic, a teleportation spell.
"What song?"
After using Phantom Shift to appear above the Cursed Demon, Jerry spread his two pairs of snow-white wings and extended his hand, releasing a Magic he had been preparing:
"Silence!"
The Cursed Demon's Song of Curses was indeed as terrifying as the legends suggested, but it still had its limitations.
Although he believed his iron armor spell, which he had improved eighteen times, could withstand the lethal sound, there was no need to take unnecessary risks when a simpler method was available.
"What's going on? Why can't I speak? Why can't I sing my beautiful song?"
The Cursed Demon opened its mouth, aiming at Erza and her companions, about to unleash the Song of Curses, but suddenly realized that its Magic array had dispersed.
Because it could no longer make any sound.
Seeing his Magic succeed, Jerry used Phantom Shift again to return to the entrance of the train station, folded his wings, and stood beside Lucy and Happy.
"What's wrong with it? Why is it choking itself?"
Natsu, standing atop a building, watched the Cursed Demon, which had been threatening to unleash a devastating move, now continuously opening and closing its mouth and choking itself, looking as if it was being strangled by something, and couldn't help but look puzzled.
Erza swung her giant sword and took off again with a flap of her wings:
"Jerry must have used some Magic to restrict its Cursed Song. Take this opportunity to kill it!"
"The flames ignite, Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
"Ice Make: Cyclone Disk!"
Natsu and Gray immediately followed her lead.
Thus, the three of them surrounded the Cursed Demon and began a monumental battle in Oshibana City.
The Cursed Demon's massive body granted it unparalleled strength, but it also reduced its speed and agility. Additionally, having just been released from its seal, its body was not yet fully recovered. Gradually, the demon found itself at a disadvantage due to the trio's seamless coordination.
The destructive demonic flames from its three eyes were also countered by Natsu, the Fire Dragon Slayer, who absorbed them to boost his own Magic power.
"Jerry, what method did you use to prevent it from releasing its Cursed Song?"
Under the eaves of the train station, Lucy poked her head out to look at the terrifying battle outside, narrowly dodging a large stone that could have crushed her head. She then asked Jerry, who was standing beside her, still shaken.
Jerry smiled:
"Oh, that's a trivial little Magic I learned by chance. It has no killing power, but it can prevent someone from making any sound for a short time."
The Magic "Silence" indeed had no lethal power against warriors, but for mages, it was a different story.
In a world like Fairy Tail, most types of mages don't need to chant incantations to cast spells. But if this were the Harry Potter world, any Witch who hadn't mastered non-verbal casting would be rendered helpless by such a silencing Magic, turning them into Muggles.
"Trivial?"
Lucy's mouth twitched.
Unfortunately, her Celestial Magic, which involved opening the gates to celestial spirits, required her to chant incantations. This silencing Magic was her worst nightmare.
"Almost done!"
Jerry watched the Cursed Demon, which was nearly collapsing, and used a Phantom Shift to disappear again.
Seeing Jerry vanish once more, Lucy couldn't help but complain:
"Ah, can you stop disappearing like that? It makes me feel so insecure!"
"Is Lucy not interested in Natsu anymore, but in Jerry instead?"
Happy, flapping his wings, looked heartbroken.
"Stupid cat, what are you talking about? When did I ever have a thing with Natsu, or with Jerry? And why do you talk with a lisp?"
Lucy grabbed Happy and started shaking him rapidly.
Happy spent his days spreading rumors about her.
"Hey, Happy finally remembered something he forgot!"
After being shaken by Lucy, Happy woke up and immediately pulled out a key to the Gold Zodiac from his backpack, handing it to Lucy.
It turned out that after the book-stealing mission, the Celestial Spirit Mage Duke was arrested, and his Virgo spirit, Barlog, had voluntarily ended their contract. Barlog then asked Happy to deliver herself to Lucy.
However, Happy had been so focused on eating fish that he had forgotten about it.
Outside the train station, Jerry reappeared above the Cursed Demon, this time holding a rice cooker engraved with various runes.
