Chapter 492: Pre-War Conference (Part 2)
Chapter 492: Pre-War Conference (Part 2)
After hearing Su Yu's words, President Hu Jing, Commissar Zhang, and Elder Tao exchanged glances, all nodding in agreement.
If the Skrulls were to use the Gravity Funnel, the people of Earth would need to prepare for the worst.
"Comrade Su Yu," President Hu Jing asked, "where do you think the Skrulls will target with the Gravity Funnel?"
Xue Wenli used a computer to project a world map onto a screen.
Su Yu studied the map on the screen.
After a long moment, he hesitated and shook his head. "Honestly, I can't predict where the target will be. I don't dare to make any definitive statements. What are your thoughts?"
Su Yu turned to look at the three leaders.
President Hu Jing then looked at Zhong Feng. "Zhong Feng, why don't you answer this question?"
A few days earlier, during a pre-war conference without Su Yu's participation, the United Government and military high command had analyzed this issue. Zhong Feng's analysis had been widely accepted, and it was appropriate for him to speak now.
"Alright, President Hu." Zhong Feng nodded seriously and turned to Su Yu.
"First, I don't think the Skrulls will target our country. They've already promised Chancellor Cao, and it's unlikely they'll renege on that promise, although it's not impossible. However, the probability is low."
Su Yu nodded in agreement. "Go on."
"Next, there's the United States," Zhong Feng said, pointing to the U.S. on the world map with a laser pointer. "Although the U.S. has split into four countries, they still maintain a loose alliance."
"More importantly, this alliance remains one of the most militarily advanced in the world, second only to us in terms of nuclear warheads."
"I believe the Skrulls will use this opportunity to completely destroy the U.S. and eliminate all nuclear weapons, reducing obstacles for future conflicts."
Zhong Feng put down the laser pointer.
Hearing Zhong Feng's analysis, President Hu Jing and Commissar Zhang nodded. Their thoughts aligned with Zhong Feng's, and they agreed that the U.S. was the most likely target.
Zhong Feng then looked at Su Yu and Elder Tao, who were frowning in thought. "Su Yu, Elder Tao, what do you think?"
"As for me," Elder Tao smiled, "I don't have a deep understanding of the current world situation. I'll leave it to Su Yu to give his opinion."
All eyes turned to Su Yu.
Su Yu thought for a while before slowly shaking his head. "Zhong Feng, I disagree with your view."
"Really? What do you think, then?" Zhong Feng asked eagerly.
"Here's my take," Su Yu said, taking the laser pointer from Zhong Feng. He first pointed to the U.S.
"First, Zhong Feng, you're right that the U.S.'s nuclear weapons could deal significant damage to the Skrulls. But don't forget, the greatest threat to the Skrulls on Earth is always us, and only us."
"If the U.S.'s threat is a '1,' then ours is at least a '10.'"
Su Yu used the laser pointer to draw a red circle around China.
"Your point is," President Hu Jing's face grew serious, "you think the Skrulls will break their promise and drop the monsters in our country?"
"Not exactly." Su Yu shook his head. "Based on my understanding of Emperor Manina XIII, he will likely drop the monster horde in countries adjacent to ours, such as the northern Roshar, the southern An Nam, or the eastern Goryeo."
"The arrival of the monster swarms can completely devastate a country or region."
"By the way, while the current M4 Alliance still seems to have some strength, the Skrulls will surely recognize that over time, the alliance's role will become increasingly marginal. Therefore, they won't make it their primary strategic target."
Hearing Su Yu's words, the others present nodded in agreement.
Su Yu's point was indeed very reasonable. The Skrulls were unlikely to focus on a secondary target when there were more pressing matters at hand.
Moreover, Su Yu was very familiar with the enemy leaders' personalities (though no one knew why he was so familiar with them). In a monarchy, judging the enemy's movements based on the emperor's character was often the most accurate.
Thus, everyone in the room agreed with Su Yu's assessment.
Hu Jing, the chairman, then asked, "Su Yu, if what you say is true, and the Skrulls drop the monster swarm in one of our neighboring countries, which one do you think it will be?"
"I really don't know," Su Yu said with a wry smile, shaking his head. "Using the process of elimination, we can rule out the Central Asian 'stan' countries and the southwestern Shendu. But the remaining countries—Rus, Goryeo, the Yuan Dynasty, and the Southeast Asian nations—any of them are possible."
Hu Jing, Zhang, and the others looked at the world map, remaining silent.
The Skrulls wouldn't let the monster swarms cross the Taklamakan Desert or the Himalayas to attack the Chinese mainland. They would choose a country close to the densely populated areas of China.
The four countries Su Yu mentioned indeed fit the criteria.
But which one would it be?
Just as Su Yu and the others were grappling with the problem of the monster army, on the distant Skrull planet, in the command center of the Skrull Expeditionary Force, Emperor Manina XIII of the Sun Empire was discussing the matter with his subordinates.
Commander Lanchi, the head of the expeditionary force, knelt on one knee before Emperor Manina XIII and respectfully said, "Your Majesty, the 'Gravity Funnel' has completed its third initialization test and is now ready. All base commanders are prepared. Where do you want to set the target location for the 'Gravity Funnel'?"
On the wall of the command center, a large map of Earth unfolded before Emperor Manina XIII.
"Set the target location here," Manina said, casually drawing a circle on the map, encompassing an island nation.
"The Nippon Archipelago?" Lanchi was clearly surprised. "Why did you choose this place, Your Majesty?"
Lanchi had speculated on where the target location might be, and his thoughts were similar to Su Yu's. He had guessed it would be one of the countries—Rus, Goryeo, the Yuan Dynasty, or the Southeast Asian nations.
But he hadn't expected the emperor to choose the Nippon Archipelago, located northeast of China.
"Choosing this place is excellent," Emperor Manina XIII said with a faint smile. "This country is densely populated and technologically advanced, making it the most economically developed neighbor of China."
"Destroying this country will severely damage the Earth's economy, and we can use it as a stepping stone."
"But, Your Majesty," Lanchi said, puzzled, "won't the Nipponese have any negative impact on the monster swarm's attack?"
