Chapter 491: Pre-War Important Meeting (Part 1)
Chapter 491: Pre-War Important Meeting (Part 1)
At 8:10 AM, an important meeting was convened on the 9th floor of the East Sea City Department Branch Building.
In attendance were the Joint Government's Speaker Hugh Jing, the Chinese Military District's Political Commissar Linda Zhang, Department leaders Francis Chung and Wendy Xue, as well as Ryan Su and his mentor, Quincy Tao.
Notably, Speaker Hugh Jing was not present in person; instead, a lifelike 3D projection of him stood in the meeting room.
This 3D projection technology was provided by the Skrull Star. Although Earth humans had not yet fully mastered the technology, the use of electrical power made it functional.
Speaker Hugh Jing's projection stood at the head of the meeting table, with Commissar Linda, Francis Chung, and Wendy Xue seated on his right, and Ryan Su and Quincy Tao on his left.
Another noteworthy point was that Ryan Su's cat, Morning Star, was sprawled out on the conference table in front of him.
Unlike her usual habit of playing with her phone, Morning Star was lying on the table, wagging her tail as she waited for the meeting to begin.
A projector was placed at the center of the conference table. Wendy Xue controlled the computer, projecting a video onto the screen at the opposite end of the room.
Everyone's attention turned to the video.
The video was the same one Ryan Su had just seen in the news, but the footage was much clearer, more stunning than any special effects in a movie.
Moreover, the monster was surprisingly agile, unlike the clumsy creatures in those films.
...
Wendy Xue's expression was serious as she explained the video: "This footage was captured by a military journalist at Mount Kunlun Spring, the largest psychic spring. The monsters from other smaller springs are similar."
"Due to technical limitations, we haven't been able to gather valuable information from the larger springs."
Speaker Hugh Jing nodded and turned to Ryan Su and Quincy Tao on the left: "Quincy Tao, Comrade Ryan Su, can you estimate the strength of this monster?"
Quincy Tao smiled slightly: "I'll leave this question to Ryan Su. His assessment is likely to be more accurate."
"Thank you for your confidence, Sir." Ryan Su bowed and then analyzed the situation: "Based on my judgment, the monster in the video has a comprehensive strength at the peak of the Fifth Rank."
At that moment, Morning Star interjected: "Don't use 'comprehensive strength.' This monster is a special composite construct and needs to be described from different aspects."
"You're right." Ryan Su smiled and gently stroked the cat's head.
Ryan Su's action immediately drew envy from Wendy Xue.
Morning Star's fur shimmered with starlight, making her the most beautiful cat in the world. However, only Ryan Su could pet her; ordinary people couldn't even get close.
"I'll rephrase it," Ryan Su said, looking at everyone. "This monster, as Morning Star mentioned, is a 'pecial composite construct.' Its offensive capabilities are at the initial Fifth Rank, even lower than many newly ascended Fifth Rank cultivators."
"However, its defensive capabilities are nearly at the Sixth Rank, a level that many great cultivators from Yunlu Mountain cannot penetrate."
"Is that so?" Speaker Hugh Jing nodded, looking at the video. "Then, Morning Star, can our Earth's nuclear bombs effectively damage these creatures? The nuclear missiles currently equipped by the joint military are in the megaton range, with some of the most advanced reaching the gigaton range."
"Let's see," Su Yu fell into thought, silently calculating in his mind.
After about ten seconds, he looked up at the Chairman and nodded. "A nuclear bomb with a yield of one million tons can inflict significant damage on the monsters. If we use bombs with exactly one million tons of yield, it would take about two to eliminate one monster."
Chairman Hu Jing let out a sigh of relief. "That's good to know. At least we have enough nuclear warheads in reserve."
The United Government had doubled its nuclear arsenal over the past four months, and the current global stockpile stood at over 60,000 warheads. Using a portion to eliminate the 3,000-plus monsters would not deplete their resources significantly.
However, Commissar Zhang interrupted with a serious expression. "Comrade Hu Jing, I have to pour some cold water on this idea."
"If we use five to six thousand nuclear warheads to eliminate the monsters, it will cause massive problems! These warheads will release a large amount of highly radioactive fallout, which would be a catastrophic disaster for humanity."
Zhong Feng, sitting beside him, nodded in agreement.
"Exactly. This approach would be like cutting off our nose to spite our face. If the monsters appear in densely populated areas, we cannot use nuclear bombs at all. So, we can't rely entirely on nuclear weapons."
Chairman Hu Jing glanced at Commissar Zhang and Zhong Feng, shaking his head. "Do you think I don't know these things? The purpose of this meeting is to discuss conventional solutions."
He turned to Su Yu. "By the way, Comrade Su Yu, do the Skrulls have any means to deal with nuclear radiation after a nuclear explosion?"
Su Yu nodded. "Of course. The Skrulls possess a special nanomaterial that can completely absorb nuclear radiation. The next time I visit Skrul, I can ask the Beker Kingdom for some. However, I have one more thing to add."
Su Yu spoke earnestly. "Based on my judgment, there is a 99% chance that the Skrulls will use a 'gravity funnel' to gather all the monsters in one location. They will definitely be clustered together."
"Regardless of which country that location is in, if we launch nuclear warheads at that area, the combined yield of thousands of nuclear weapons will cause a catastrophic ecological disaster!"
"Hmm?"
Upon hearing Su Yu's statement, Chairman Hu Jing, Commissar Zhang, and Zhong Feng exchanged glances and turned to him.
Zhong Feng asked seriously, "99% chance of using a gravity funnel? Why are you so certain, Su Yu?"
In the past, when Su Yu was not present, the military and relevant departments had discussed whether the Skrulls would use a 'gravity funnel,' but they couldn't reach a definitive conclusion.
They hadn't expected Su Yu to be so confident.
Su Yu leaned back in his chair, folding his arms, and said with certainty, "Based on my understanding of Emperor Manina the Thirteenth, this is a sure thing."
"The Skrulls have only two ways to release the monsters: directly from their bases or using a gravity funnel."
"Most Skrull bases are located in remote mountainous areas, surrounded by military installations. Releasing the monsters there would not cause significant harm."
"But using a gravity funnel is different. If they use it, they can likely wipe out an entire country. They can also place the monsters in densely populated areas, making it impossible for us to use nuclear bombs."
"That's why I'm 99% certain the Skrulls will use a gravity funnel. This is a certainty."
