Chapter 491: Has Nicki Run Off?
Chapter 491: Has Nicki Run Off?
The next morning, Fred and George were waiting early at the Great Hall entrance, and they finally got their wish to visit Kyle's trunk once more.
Cedric and Autumn came along as well.
Compared to the previous day's quiet with only Connor present, the trunk was much livelier this time.
After witnessing the vast space within the trunk, Fred immediately decided to embark on an exploration adventure.
Kyle didn't refuse, seeing them off as they happily ran into the forest until they were out of sight.
"Are you sure it's alright?" Cedric asked worriedly. "They won't encounter any danger, will they?"
"No!" Kyle waved his hand dismissively. "The dangerous area is the clearing you saw earlier. As long as they stay away from there, they'll be fine."
Hearing Kyle's words, Autumn, like Connor, thought of the biting kale and shuddered. She mentally added that clearing to her blacklist, vowing never to go near it.
However, Cedric, perhaps influenced by the fact that the Head of Hufflepuff was the Herbology professor, showed great interest in the magical plants. He even intended to try cultivating a Devil's Snare himself.
By noon, the Weasley brothers returned, but their dejected appearance made it clear that their adventure had not met their expectations.
They hadn't found the fire dragon they were hoping for.
In fact, when they had entered the trunk, Norberta had indeed appeared again. But upon seeing the other people with Kyle, she had turned and flown away.
Fred and George had watched her disappear into the depths of the forest, sparking their desire for an adventure.
However, after trudging around for several hours, they hadn't even caught a glimpse of the dragon's shadow.
As they left the trunk, they couldn't stop grumbling about their misfortune... After all, this was probably their only chance to see a dragon up close without any danger.
It was a pity that Norberta didn't care for their company, and there was nothing Kyle could do about it.
...
But soon, they had other things to worry about.
Because on Wednesday, Snape returned.
During breakfast that day, he pushed open the door and strode into the Great Hall.
Seeing his familiar black cloak and cold eyes, many students sighed.
They had thought they would finally be rid of Snape for the year, and some had even skipped their Potions homework during the holidays... Fred and George included.
However, the Slytherins seemed delighted and stood up, applauding their Head of House warmly.
Kyle watched as Snape took his place beside Dumbledore.
His presence at the school meant that Regulus' issue had likely been resolved, and this probably brought Sirius more joy than his own freedom.
However, not everyone was happy about it.
All morning, Michael and Ryan rushed to complete their Potions homework, taking advantage of every spare moment. The first period, History of Magic, was fine as long as they didn't make too much noise, but the second period, Transfiguration, was a different story. They were caught by Professor McGonagall, and not only was their unfinished Potions homework confiscated, but their Transfiguration homework was also increased from five feet to eight feet... The duo almost broke down in tears on the spot.
Kyle nodded, not surprised, and after leaving the classroom, he parted ways with Connor and headed alone to the eighth floor.
The headmaster's office was quiet, and the portraits on the walls were covered with thick velvet cloth. Dumbledore still sat behind his desk, seemingly waiting for him.
"I assume you already know about Regulus," Dumbledore began. "He's no longer the kind of monster we saw before."
"I know," Kyle replied. "I saw Professor Snape return this morning."
"Yes..." Dumbledore said softly. "It took more than two months, far more troublesome than I imagined, but it's finally resolved."
"And what will happen to Regulus now?" Kyle asked.
"I don't know," Dumbledore shook his head. "According to Sirius, he'll take care of everything. At least until that person is completely destroyed, we don't need to do anything."
"I see," Kyle said.
He understood that Dumbledore was referring to Voldemort, and although he didn't know why Sirius had made such a decision, he didn't ask further questions.
"You saved two innocent souls, Kyle," Dumbledore stood up and said with a smile. "Helping Sirius regain his freedom and uncovering the truth about Regulus are both praiseworthy deeds.
As a wizard who once fought against Voldemort alongside you all, I'm grateful for what you've done for them. But as a headmaster, I can't give you extra points for matters unrelated to the school."
"It's alright, Professor," Kyle shook his head.
After all, these events had occurred during the holidays and had little direct connection to Hogwarts, so it wasn't appropriate to give him extra points.
"However..." Kyle thought for a moment and suddenly said, "I hope you can grant me a request."
"Go ahead," Dumbledore smiled. "But let me remind you that if you want to learn the spell I used before, it's better to choose another one. Remember, I already promised to teach it to you, and I don't intend to go back on my word."
"It's a different request," Kyle said. "I want to handle the item that Regulus traded for."
Kyle knew that Dumbledore had called him here not just because of what they had discussed so far, but mostly because of the pendant box.
Dumbledore must have guessed what it was, and the fact that he had refrained from addressing it until now was already surprising.
As expected, when Kyle brought up the pendant box, Dumbledore's expression turned serious.
He pondered for a moment before asking, "Do you know what it is?"
"Of course, it's like the diary," Kyle said. "But I have a way to deal with it."
Speaking of which, Kyle subconsciously thought of Nicodemus. He had promised to return the crown to him in half a year, but now almost a year had passed, and there was still no news from him.
Kyle even suspected that he had run off with the crown.
But the problem was that he couldn't ask.
Nicodemus' estate obviously had more protections than just the Fidelius Charm, as even though Kyle had been there once, he couldn't remember the exact address.
So now, he could only wait for Nicodemus to contact him.
