Chapter 491: Finally...
Chapter 491: Finally...
At this moment, Luteanger had reached her peak. She truly hadn’t expected things to escalate this far.
Though she had once boasted to Twenty-Three about her “premonition ability” and foresight, in reality—as Zero had said—Lute’s predictive powers were incomplete. She could only glimpse fragmented shards of the future.
However, Lute could leverage her formidable computational power to deduce entire chains of causality from these partial glimpses.
Zero’s approach was different. Zero could directly perceive the complete data chain. There was an essential distinction between the two.
If Feng Bu Jue had been present, he would surely have seen through this already. If Lute could truly outpace Zero, she wouldn’t need to “filter” anything—she’d simply predict gui xiao’s location and deploy overwhelming force to capture it.
Clearly, she had only just reconstructed the full data chain after seeing gui xiao. Even then, there were still many variables she couldn’t calculate, such as… the current Golden Maggot No. 1.
“Trying to escape?” A ferocious roar erupted from Lute’s chrysalis, which suddenly surged forward.
The chrysalis was car-sized, hovering midair without touching the ground, and surprisingly swift.
Golden Maggot No. 1, a robot relying on walking poles for mobility, couldn’t hope to match that speed. It couldn’t even touch down before Lute caught up.
“Tch… Already caught up this fast…?” Matcha Su’s composure cracked. She hastily prepared her defenses.
The robot’s upper body spun 180 degrees, arms lifting as [Big Wheel Flying Fist] detonated outward.
(Big Wheel Flying Fist: One of Demon God Z’s techniques, a derivative of the Rocket Punch. When activated, the power source concentrates on the 360-degree rotating arms, holding them stationary to generate centrifugal force that hurls the punch. It delivers triple the destructive force of a standard Rocket Punch.)
Crrrash—
An eerie sound rang out as another metallic spiderweb peeled off the chrysalis, firing toward them.
The Big Wheel Flying Fist struck the web, immediately stalling. The metal mesh was astonishingly resilient—like punching gum, the punch couldn’t pierce through. Worse yet, the punch remained stuck, leaving no way to retract it.
“As expected…” Lute muttered darkly.
At this moment, on her tactical interface, Golden Maggot No. 1’s threat level had dropped to “Low.” This wasn’t surprising—the earlier scenario had merely been a coincidence. Since Lute’s fourth morphology was nearly immobile with limited attack options, it had been vulnerable to Golden Maggot No. 1. If Lute were in another morphology—even her tenth—she might not fear this robot at all.
Klang—
Golden Maggot No. 1 crouched on landing, its legs steadying it. Now, it looked even more absurd, its upper and lower body facing opposite directions, both arms gone.
“Hmph… Scrap metal is still scrap metal…” Lute closed in again. Within seconds, she had devoured the robot’s arms into her chrysalis.
Crrrash—
Another metallic web descended. This time, Xiao Tan had no time to react.
[Warning: Critical physical damage detected. Initiate Emergency Ejection Protocol.]
“Pfft… Like I need you to tell me that…” Matcha Su muttered as her hands flew across controls.
The next instant—Boom! A Safety Pod ejected from the robot’s crotch, soaring over a hundred meters before crashing into a building. Xiao Tan’s screams echoed throughout the descent.
“Good… The nuisance is gone.” Matcha Su’s eyes hardened. Her hands danced like a virtual keyboard across the control panel. “Let’s finish this together!”
Undoubtedly, she intended mutual annihilation. As she’d declared earlier—she’d die in the robot if she had to.
[Output power at maximum. Positron Cannon activated.]
[Warning: Target distance too close. Confirm forced activation.]
“Hmph… Die, monster!” Matcha Su decisively completed the final step.
But then—
Boom! Another Safety Pod ejected from the robot’s back, ejecting her as well.
“What? I didn’t activate that!” The acceleration left her stunned, but her mind was clear. She definitely hadn’t touched the emergency ejection button.
*I Don’t Cry_Da_da_da
‘Cause I’m a robot, a machine_Da_da_da
But I understand—burning friendship, fighting evil with you.
I Don’t Speak_Da_da_da
‘Cause I’m a robot, a machine_Da_da_da
I am Gold—Gold! Maggot_One!*
A broken song crackled from Golden Maggot No. 1’s speakers. Whether from circuit failure or a final message, the towering figure entangled in metallic webs ejected the Safety Pod moments before destruction. Following its final command, it fired the Positron Cannon at its point-blank foe.
Beep-beep-beep—
Lute detected the impending catastrophe, cursing, “Damn…”
Boom—
A blinding explosion tore skyward, illuminating the night.
The intense light scorched the horizon. A roaring shockwave rippled outward.
At the epicenter, Golden Maggot No. 1 and Lute’s third morphology had annihilated each other.
“Phew… Solved, I guess…” Over a dozen seconds later, Xiao Tan emerged from the Safety Pod, staring at the electrical storm in the distance.
Matcha Su exited another pod nearby. “Yeah… Guess we were saved by a weirdo…”
“Hey!” Brahma shouted from the street’s far end. “Can you two come help? We’ve still got dozens of enemies left!”
The street’s derivative beings had been halved, down to around forty—Golden Maggot No. 1’s barrage had paid off. R2-Lingfeng had also joined the battle, relieving pressure on the Four Heavenly Kings of the Gods.
“It’s not over…” Twenty-Three’s voice chilled the players. “Not even close…”
“True…” Lute’s voice rose from the explosion’s heart. “This is just beginning…”
The smoke and electrical haze parted, revealing a renewed Lute. She’d reverted to her female form, wings of a giant butterfly unfurling behind her. Her liquid-metal body now shimmered charcoal-gray, distinctly darker than her initial silver.
Snap! Lute flicked her fingers.
A beam of white light erupted dozens of meters behind her, detonating.
No one had been there—until the light struck. A figure stumbled backward from the beam’s edge, coughing blood as they collapsed.
“You’re sharper than you look… Chi Tie.” Lute turned, smirking. “Trying to sneak past and awaken gui xiao?” She scoffed. “Did you think I’d let that happen?”
Chi Tie spat blood, his left arm completely vaporized. He clutched his shoulder, chuckling bitterly as he gave up struggling. “Heh… Thought I’d make it… Sorry, everyone… Can’t stand again this time.”
Gui xiao lay two hundred meters behind Lute. The players, Z Organization, and Origin’s derivatives faced her front. Everyone saw Lute had unconsciously drawn a defensive line. Since fusing with her clone, she’d guarded this line fiercely—even against Golden Maggot No. 1’s assault, she hadn’t budged.
“Side shows are over.” Lute declared. “As a farewell party to this dimension… There’ve been enough surprises.”
Before her words faded, her butterfly shadow shifted lightning-fast.
Twenty-Three sensed the approach, instantly crossing her arms to block.
But Lute only extended a finger, lightly tapping her forearm—triggering an explosive energy blast that severed Twenty-Three’s arms.
Twenty-Three twisted away, but Lute’s wings carved a streak of dark brilliance, pursuing relentlessly.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions thundered. Twenty-Three retreated, channeling energy into healing and dodging—yet cornered.
“Storm Leg… White Thunder!” Ling Feng charged to aid his commander.
“Flashy technique name.” Lute sneered, flapping her wings to unleash an air blast that reflected the attack.
Ling Feng, still in mid-attack, couldn’t dodge. White Thunder’s lightning lashed back, slicing him instead.
Still, his effort wasn’t futile—Twenty-Three finally broke free from the relentless assault.
“Ling Feng… You guard the players. This one… I’ll handle.” Twenty-Three tore off her tattered protective suit, discarding the cumbersome armor.
“Oh? Finally resolved to die?” Lute coldly remarked.
“If I die here, I won’t have to worry about crossing *-004 either.” Twenty-Three wore a sleek black leather bodysuit beneath—a replica of her “Ascension Tower Chronicles” outfit. But now, she was battered and bloodstained, her body charred by burns.
“Mm… Makes sense.” Lute grinned menacingly. “Then I’ll oblige you!”
Whoosh—
As Lute lunged, a golden streak slashed through the air.
