Chapter 491: Ancient Cauldron Deer, Get!
Chapter 491: Ancient Cauldron Deer, Get!
Naoki wasn't idle either; he continued scouting the mountain with his riding partner, Goleadon.
The stakes weren't easy to spot, and some were hidden in inconspicuous places, so one had to be thorough to find them all.
As Goleadon flew, the Pokemon residing in the area were drawn to the unusual sight and craned their necks to look up.
It took about half a short to circle the mountain a few times before Naoki and Goleadon finally spotted the second stake.
By the time they returned to their starting point, the three Pokemon Naoki had sent out earlier came flying back.
"Any luck?" Naoki asked.
"Ba bu!" Bubuto nodded vigorously, having found one hidden in the grass by a small river.
"Raaaar..." Flygon also nodded, having spotted one at the mountain's peak.
"Dream," Zhen Yi Fa called out, having discovered two stakes.
Naoki was delighted by this outcome and, led by the three Pokemon, proceeded to pull out the stakes they had found.
With the two he found earlier, they now had six stakes, leaving only two more to go.
Back at the Altar of Dust, Naoki noticed that only one chain remained attached to the structure.
The seal on this side would be broken as soon as he pulled out the last two stakes.
Naoki and his Pokemon companions continued their search in the surrounding area.
Time ticked by, and eventually, noon arrived, but unfortunately, they still couldn't locate the last two stakes.
Reluctantly, Naoki called off the search for the time being and returned to the Altar of Dust to prepare lunch with the ingredients he had brought earlier.
During this break, Lei Huo contacted Naoki via video call to check on his progress.
Lei Huo: "How's it going?"
Naoki shook his head: "We've been searching all morning, but we still can't find the last two stakes. I'm going to fill my stomach first before continuing the search."
"The last two... it's not that easy, huh?" Lei Huo sighed. "If it weren't for the principal specifically sending someone to keep an eye on me, I would've come to help with the investigation."
Naoki: "......Do you have classes this afternoon?"
Lei Huo nodded: "Yes, two periods."
Naoki: "Then forget it. You should just stay in school for your classes."
"I guess that's the only option."
After hanging up, Naoki released Motoxish and Wicked Pup to let them play in the area.
He then heated up some oil in a pan and placed the meat patties inside, causing golden droplets of fat to dance in the pan and fill the air with a mouthwatering aroma.
Next, Naoki sliced up some tomatoes, and once the patties were cooked, he used them to make several special sandwiches.
When everything was ready, Naoki turned around and took out Pokeblocks and Energy Blocks from his backpack, placing them on a plate.
Sandwiches, Energy Blocks, Pokeblocks, and juice—a simple yet delicious lunch was prepared.
"Come and eat!"
Naoki called out, and the Pokemon playing on the grass immediately ran over.
They eagerly picked up the sandwiches and began to devour them happily.
Just as Wicked Pup was about to take a bite, it suddenly turned its gaze toward the distance: "Puni?"
"Hmm? What is it?"
Naoki followed its line of sight and spotted a Pokemon resembling a shrub with five yellow spots on its abdomen standing at a distance, staring at them.
It was a Shrubby?
At that moment, the Shrubby was drooling, its eyes fixed on the Pokeblocks and Energy Blocks that Naoki had placed in a basket.
Perhaps it was lured here by the scent of the food?
But then, the Shrubby realized it had been spotted by the human and the other Pokemon.
Its face betrayed a moment of panic, and it quickly stood still, covering its face with its hands, pretending to be a tree.
Naoki: "......"
"Gaou!"
"Ba bu?"
At that moment, Motoxish and Bubuto also looked up, their gazes shifting in different directions.
Naoki turned and saw several wild Pokemon drawn by the enticing aroma of the food.
An adult Spriggan with several seasonal Stantler stood on the grass, curiously observing them.
Even a wild Heracross had been attracted to the scene.
And there were also several Wild Jelly, resembling jellyfish but capable of running on land with their tentacles, approaching eagerly.
Wow! So many Pokemon drawn by the food!
Naoki was quite surprised, as he hadn't brought any strongly scented Lure Blocks.
Noticing the human's lack of response, the Shrubby cautiously peered through its fingers, keeping an eye on the situation.
The Spriggan also calmly observed the human, while the Stantler behind it nimbly hopped on the grass, curious about the human and the delicious-smelling food.
The Heracross, on the other hand, fixed its gaze on the sweet-smelling treats, its mouth watering at the scent, sweeter than any nectar it had ever tasted.
It wanted to eat...
Drool formed at the corners of Heracross' mouth.
The Wild Jelly, unable to contain their desire any longer, rushed forward, intending to snatch the food from the human and the Pokemon!
Naoki was taken aback by their bold move.
The local Pokemon didn't seem very friendly...
In response to the Wild Jelly's aggressive behavior, Wicked Pup stood up abruptly.
Faced with this unexpected defense, the Wild Jelly opened their mouths and spat out clumps of mud.
"Puni!"
It turned to look at Naoki.
Naoki nodded: "It's all yours."
"Puni!"
That was all Eguipine needed to hear.
In an instant, its hands glowed with green light, crafting a vine-covered club. With a mighty swing, it brought the Thorny Stick down on the Wild Jelly's face, sending it flying.
Without missing a beat, Eguipine charged at the other Wild Jellies.
But at the sight of its display of power, they turned tail and fled in the opposite direction.
The Heracross and the seasonal Stantler on the hillside were equally startled by the sudden turn of events.
Having scared off the Wild Jellies that had their eyes on the group's food, Eguipine happily returned to its spot and resumed enjoying its lunch.
Naoki: "......"
Eguipine's appearance and strength were so mismatched; it was downright terrifying to see such a cute Pokemon swinging a club like that.
But then, something occurred to Naoki as he looked at the remaining wild Pokemon.
If anyone knew the terrain and environment of this area well, it would be the Pokemon that naturally inhabited the vicinity.
There was strength in numbers, and he considered hiring these Pokemon to help search for the remaining two stakes.
Without further ado, Naoki turned to the wild Pokemon and waved them over.
Shrubby paused, taken aback by Naoki's gesture. Was the human calling it over? The seasonal Stantler beside it also seemed unsure, hesitating for a moment before happily bouncing over with the other Stantler.
Heracross, on the other hand, eyed Eguipine warily, concerned about getting hit by the club-wielding Pokemon.
However, when it saw Naoki offering the sweet-smelling food to the young Stantler, it couldn't resist any longer.
"Heyah!"
Heracross rushed forward.
Soon, the seasonal Stantler and Shrubby followed suit, running over to join them.
Naoki couldn't help but marvel inwardly at the power of the Everlasting Power to drastically improve his affinity with Pokemon.
"Go ahead and eat!" Naoki said with a smile.
Heracross savored the sweet Energy Blocks, its face lighting up with delight.
Just as Naoki had thought, they were even sweeter than honey!
"By the way, there's something I want to ask you all," Naoki said after the wild Pokemon had finished their Energy Blocks.
The Pokemon looked up at him, their faces reflecting their confusion.
"Heyah?" Heracross asked.
Naoki took out his Rotom Phone and pulled up the photo he had taken of the stakes earlier, asking:
"Have any of you seen this thing around here?"
The wild Pokemon focused their gaze on the photo, but the seasonal Stantler and Shrubby, who lived in the jungle, looked perplexed.
Heracross shook its head, indicating it hadn't seen anything like that.
However, Shrubby's eyes lit up as it remembered something. It had seen that thing before!
"Really?" Naoki assured them. "Whoever can help me find it will get a whole bag of Energy Blocks as a reward."
Shrubby was thrilled at this unexpected bonus and eagerly nodded its head. "Husso!"
Heracross's eyes gleamed at the prospect, and it, too, was eager to help with the search.
A few minutes later, the group of wild Pokemon scattered in different directions, motivated by the promise of Pokeblocks, to find the glowing stakes for the human.
Naoki followed Shrubby along the mountain path.
About ten minutes later, they reached a secluded cave.
The cave wasn't very deep, and at its end stood a stake emitting a blue glow.
Naoki pulled it out, leaving only one more to find!
"I'll keep my promise and give you a bag of Energy Blocks. Let's head back to the camp now!" Naoki said.
"Husso!" Shrubby danced with joy, delighted by the human's kindness.
When they returned to the camp, Heracross and the seasonal Stantler hadn't come back yet.
True to his word, Naoki gave Shrubby a bag of Energy Blocks.
Seeing Shrubby's excited reaction, Naoki was at a loss for words.
It was intriguing, though, how Shrubby looked like a tree but had a Rock-type attribute.
On top of that, it was afraid of water.
"Interesting," Naoki thought.
Heracross and the seasonal Stantler were still searching for the stakes, but Naoki didn't plan to sit idle.
After giving Shrubby the Energy Blocks, he set out again with Goleadon to continue the search.
With the Energy Blocks delivered, Goleadon took to the skies once more, and Naoki recalled the previous stake hidden in the cave. He instructed Goleadon, "Lower your altitude. Let's take a closer look below and keep an eye out for any caves, valleys, or similar places."
"Agas!"
Goleadon responded and flew downward.
Naoki carefully scanned the area, his gaze sweeping across the grass, depressions, valleys, and beneath the cliffs...
Time ticked by, and after several hours of meticulous searching, Naoki finally spotted the last stake in a small, inconspicuous cave halfway up the mountain.
As he pulled out the stake, a rumbling sound echoed from a distance.
The seal on the Ancient Cauldron Deer had been released!
"Let's go back!" Naoki immediately instructed Goleadon.
The Heracross and Budew, who had been unsuccessful in their search, returned to the altar and joined the other Pokemon in witnessing the unfolding events.
Noticing the strange phenomenon, the wild Pokemon present turned their attention to the altar.
Naoki stepped forward and gently touched the blue-glowing door, causing it to crumble noisily and send clouds of dust into the air.
Then, a Pokemon slowly emerged from within.
"Gu Ding Ding!"
The Ancient Cauldron Deer, finally freed after being sealed for millennia, exuded an air of destruction.
A palpable sense of malevolence seemed to ooze from its body.
Lowering its head, the Ancient Cauldron Deer brought the massive cauldron crashing down onto the ground.
The next moment, the earth began to shake violently, and purple miasma spread in all directions as rocks tumbled down the mountain.
Horrified by this turn of events, Heracross and the Budew cowered behind Naoki in fear.
"So this is a Disaster Pokemon? It's indeed very dangerous, just as the legends say." Naoki remarked, surveying the chaos around him.
He knew he had to act quickly to prevent the Ancient Cauldron Deer from wreaking further havoc and unleashing a calamity upon this place, just as it had done to the ancient Padian Kingdom millennia ago. In this situation, speed and decisiveness were crucial, and ideally, he wanted to defeat it in one fell swoop.
"Goleadon, full power Head Charge!"
Maintaining his composure, Naoki gave the command as the purple miasma crept closer.
"Aga!"
Goleadon immediately sprang into action, leaping high into the air.
Its crimson body transformed mid-flight as it charged towards the Ancient Cauldron Deer with full force.
A thunderous explosion followed, and in an instant, the chaos ceased.
Naoki approached the fallen Ancient Cauldron Deer and threw a Poke Ball at it.
As the Poke Ball made contact with the incapacitated Ancient Cauldron Deer, its body transformed into a beam of red light that was drawn into the ball.
After a few shakes, the red light on the Poke Ball's button faded, indicating a successful capture.
Naoki picked up the Poke Ball containing the Ancient Cauldron Deer and turned to face the Heracross and Budew behind him. He then reached into his bag and took out the remaining Energy Blocks.
"Consider these a token of my appreciation for your help in finding the stakes. Thank you very much. Now, we must be off."
Heracross accepted the Energy Blocks, and along with the Budew, they stared blankly at the human before them.
Were they really getting Energy Blocks even though they hadn't been of much help?
"Goodbye!"
Naoki mounted Goleadon and waved to the Pokemon below before departing from Gobaline Road.
Upon returning to the ranch, Naoki intended to restore the exhausted Ancient Cauldron Deer's energy.
To that end, he had made thorough preparations and specifically requested Leihuo's presence to prevent any potential rampage by the Ancient Cauldron Deer.
However, to his surprise, when he released the Ancient Cauldron Deer from its Poke Ball, the Disaster Pokemon did not exhibit any signs of the previous unrest.
It stood calmly on the grass, resembling nothing more than an ordinary deer.
Naoki was taken aback for a moment before attempting to communicate with it.
"Ancient Cauldron Deer?"
The Ancient Cauldron Deer turned to look at him but did not respond.
This unexpected development left Naoki even more perplexed. What could be the reason for this?
After a brief moment of contemplation, he took out his Rotom Phone and video-called Lei Hui to report the situation.
"I've successfully unsealed the Altar of Dust and captured the Ancient Cauldron Deer."
"That's fantastic! I knew you could do it!"
Lei Hui's voice was filled with delight. "So, the Ancient Cauldron Deer didn't go on a rampage?"
"I employed a swift and decisive strategy to defeat it before it could unleash its full power. But now, something strange is happening..."
As he spoke, Naoki adjusted the camera to show the Ancient Cauldron Deer.
"After returning to the ranch, it hasn't caused any disasters. Instead, it's become very calm. It looks at me when I call out to it, but it doesn't respond."
"It's become calm?" Lei Hui observed the Ancient Cauldron Deer on the screen, intrigued by this unexpected development.
She racked her brains, trying to recall the legends surrounding the Disaster Pokemon.
According to ancient texts, during the era of the Padian Empire, a merchant from the East brought four treasures to the kingdom: a cauldron, a sword, bamboo slips, and jade.
He sold these treasures to the king, but that very night, the treasures transformed into Pokemon and wreaked havoc, destroying the royal capital.
The ancient records stated that these treasures were, in fact, Pokemon that had traveled far and wide, absorbing desires and curses along the way. When they came into the king's possession, his desires and greed activated their latent powers...
Combining this knowledge with what she knew about Naoki's temperament, Lei Hui formed a hypothesis.
"I think I know what might be the cause," she said, her tone thoughtful.
"What is it?" Naoki asked.
Lei Hui's emotions were mixed as she explained, "It seems that your inner nature has influenced it. The Disaster Pokemon were not inherently disasters; they became what they are now because of human desires."
"If I'm not mistaken, you don't harbor any greed or desire for them. You view them purely as Pokemon and not as objects of power, unlike others."
