Chapter 490: Mechanical Onslaught
Chapter 490: Mechanical Onslaught
On their way here, R2-Lingfeng had already filled Xiao Tan and Matcha Su in on the Origin Organization's details and described Twenty-Three and Chi Tie's key characteristics. Xiao Tan had encountered Twenty-Three before, and Chi Tie's appearance and aura differed significantly from other derivative beings. This meant no unnecessary friendly-fire risks would arise from these two new players entering the battlefield.
"That grotesque monster over there must be Lute..." Matcha Su's holographic display locked onto the target. "Good. Strike the head before the limbs. Let's blast it into scrap!"
"Roger that", Xiao Tan acknowledged, eyes sharpening. His hands flew across the joysticks, yanking them back and forth in rapid succession.
His only thought during this moment: How could a twisted elementary school student capable of crafting such devastating black-technology weapons still be using such primitive control system designs?
"Halt it!" Lute barked. Simultaneously, crimson energy beams lashed out in rapid succession, targeting Twenty-Three.
"Hmph... So it seems we're not 'entirely' without hope", Twenty-Three smirked, his form blurring as he swiftly retreated.
On the other side of the battlefield, Shiva recognized Golden Maggot No. 1's significance. As the mecha charged toward Lute, he roared, "Assist!"
The remaining three members of The Gods and Chi Tie immediately grasped the intent of that cry for assistance. Together, their powerful techniques forced the horde of derivative beings lining the street to scatter to both sides.
Though all five fighters were nearing exhaustion, they still had that crucial 30% reserve energy left. Seeing Golden Maggot No. 1 approaching felt like desert wanderers spotting an oasis - it reignited their fighting spirit.
"The Gods' Four Heavenly Kings are clearing our path", Matcha Su chuckled. "Wouldn't have believed it without seeing it with my own eyes."
"Hah... hah... You could've at least... hah... warned me before... talking", Xiao Tan gasped between breaths.
"Just pretend I'm talking to myself. Ignore me completely", Matcha Su replied with a playful grin. The revenge for Xiao Tan's sudden brake maneuver earlier was now settled.
"Now that you've cleared this path..." Lute declared as a sizable crystalline energy construct began forming before her, "I'll take the initiative."
Lute calculated that the approaching mecha couldn't possibly outrun her energy beam. With her forces already clear of the blast radius, she decided to unleash a devastating energy projectile to eliminate this unknown high-threat anomaly in one strike.
[Forward sensors detecting high-energy reaction]
[Threat analysis: Pure energy beam attack]
The warning had already sounded inside Golden Maggot No. 1's cockpit seconds earlier. At the same time, Matcha Su's holographic display flashed with alerts.
"Oh? Just as I suspected - a 'turret-type' enemy", Matcha Su declared with smug satisfaction. She'd suspected as much when she first saw Lute's fourth morphological form.
"Beam bombardment is their signature ability. Watch this..." Matcha Su licked her lips, her hands dancing across the controls in a blur.
In response, Golden Maggot No. 1's chest armor rapidly reconfigured, extending a circular aperture resembling a camera lens.
[Synchronized proton focusing cannon primed, ready to fire]
Boom—
Screeee—
Two distinct sound effects resonated simultaneously as dual energy streams erupted forth.
The energy beam met the incoming projectile head-on. Rather than creating a massive explosion, they simply canceled each other out like opposing winds dispersing into nothingness.
"Shorter charge time than mine... yet equal in power..." Lute's expression darkened.
At that moment, the Level-3 Derivative Beings pushed forward again, swarming toward Golden Maggot No. 1. With their overwhelming numbers, it was impossible to keep them at bay for long.
"Quantity means nothing", Matcha Su scoffed, her fingers dancing across panels on both sides like a pianist playing a furious concerto.
[Diffuse mine launcher activated]
Pow! Pow! Pow!
Metallic canisters launched from mini-mine launchers on the mecha's shoulders, scattering mid-air before detonating to release a devastating landmine barrage across the battlefield.
The Level-3 Derivative Beings suffered heavy casualties, forcing them to halt their advance and switch to long-range suppression tactics. Despite their formidable combat abilities, they were still far from being able to match a Gundam in direct confrontation.
"Grrr..." Lute clenched her teeth. She knew her situation was dire - her mobility in this fourth morphological form was severely limited.
"Ha! Easier than I expected", Matcha Su declared confidently as Golden Maggot No. 1 closed within ten meters of Lute.
"Easier than... hah... you say...?" Xiao Tan was wheezing from exertion.
[Instant Kill: Thunderstorm Tornado Inferno activated]
"Does having so many attributes in a single attack name even make sense..." Matcha Su muttered as she unleashed Golden Maggot No. 1's ultimate technique.
Instantly, the mecha halted directly before Lute, legs spread wide in a dynamic stance. All frontal armor panels flared open, revealing countless barrels.
Whoooorrr—
A spiraling column of azure flame erupted forth...
Lute's massive metallic snowflake form melted instantly under this onslaught, reduced to a pool of molten metal.
"Alright, time to clean up the rest..." Matcha Su declared smugly, believing she had eliminated Origin's ultimate boss. She prepared to finish off the remaining forces when...
Without warning, Twenty-Three shouted urgently, "Retreat!"
Her warning came just in time. Though Matcha Su didn't react, Xiao Tan did. He yanked the joysticks downward then upward sharply, sending Golden Maggot No. 1 into a powerful leap.
That single action saved them. A viscous metallic liquid sprayed across the ground where they had just stood. Had Xiao Tan delayed even half a second, Golden Maggot No. 1 would have been trapped.
Looking closer, Lute's third morphological form had emerged - a cocoon-like structure surrounded by thick, pulsating metallic threads.
"My endurance has reached its breaking point..." Lute's muffled voice emerged from the cocoon, now hoarse and strained. "Please... all of you... just die already..."
