Chapter 49: First Use of Cooking Magic
Chapter 49: First Use of Cooking Magic
"Go play? How could I? I received a summons from the mysterious Mystic Deity to go downstairs and fetch the super, super, super powerful Power Beans that can increase my magic!"
Jerry explained with a serious expression, looking at Elsa, who had her hands on her hips and was puffed up with anger.
"Super, super, super powerful Power Beans?"
Elsa's face showed a look of confusion.
"Look, it's right here!"
Jerry pulled out a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans from his pocket, which he had prepared in advance.
"Wow~ Really, there are super, super, super powerful Power Beans!"
Elsa snatched the box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans from Jerry's hand. Seeing the colorful beans that looked like candy, her eyes immediately lit up with a green glow.
Because she was still in the process of losing her baby teeth, Elsa's father, Hass, had strictly forbidden her from eating any candy. She hadn't had any sweets for a long time.
"When Father comes home tonight, don't tell him I went out to get the super, super powerful Power Beans for you, or he'll be upset!"
Jerry closed the door and gently reminded Elsa.
On his way back, he recalled the conversation with Hass and noticed something off about the other's expression. He suddenly realized that his voice might have been the issue.
Of course, even though he was masked, Hass couldn't be unfamiliar with his voice, being his father and all.
The most critical issue was his build, which he couldn't hide at all.
So, to be safe, he decided to have Elsa cover for him.
"Don't worry, Jerry, I won't tell the Great Demon Hass!"
Elsa patted Jerry's shoulder and then skipped back to the sofa, hugging the box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans as she resumed watching TV.
Jerry had secretly gone out to buy her candy. How could she tell her father? If her father found out and scolded Jerry, she would never get to eat candy again.
"So sweet, so delicious!"
Elsa popped a Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean into her mouth and her eyes sparkled. It seemed she had gotten the toffee flavor.
Jerry shook his head and placed the guitar case containing the flying broom and Wizard Outfit under his bed.
Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans weren't candy; they were just beans with different flavors, so they wouldn't harm Elsa's teeth.
"By the way, the super, super, super powerful Power Beans come in many flavors. Be careful when you eat them!"
"Ugh~~"
As soon as he finished speaking, he heard a vomiting sound from the sofa. Clearly, Elsa had gotten a particularly awful flavor.
After a quick wash and a glance at the clock, which showed it was already past five, Jerry went to the kitchen, put on an apron, and began preparing dinner.
As he passed through the living room, he noticed Elsa staring at the box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, looking like she wanted to eat more but was hesitant. He couldn't help but smile and shake his head.
Pulling the sliding door shut between the kitchen and living room, Jerry took out his wand from under his apron.
"Let's see if this Practical Home Cooking Magic is as practical as they say!"
With a wave of his wand, the old hen that had been thawing in the sink flew onto the cutting board. The kitchen knife swiftly chopped it into evenly sized pieces.
At the same time, garlic cloves flew up and peeled themselves, ginger was sliced in the air by a paring knife, the wok heated up, and oil sizzled in the pan. The kitchen seemed to come to life.
In less than ten minutes, a plate of Braised Chicken Pieces, a dish of Garlic Stir-Fried Lettuce, a plate of Stir-Fried Shredded Pork with Potatoes, and a large bowl of Tomato and Egg Soup were laid out in front of Jerry.
The pots and pans used in the kitchen began to wash themselves.
"Indeed, it's very practical!"
Normally, if he had to do it himself, preparing three dishes and a soup would take at least an hour, not including the time needed to wash dishes and clean the kitchen afterward.
But now, he just stood there, waved his wand, and recited a few spells. In less than ten minutes, he had a full dinner ready.
It saved both effort and time, and the extra time he saved could be used to read more Magic books. Indeed, it was very practical.
At first, he naively thought that once he mastered Transfiguration, he could wave his wand and instantly create a pile of delicious food.
But after he started learning Transfiguration, he realized it wasn't as simple as he had imagined. As a standalone course, it involved a lot of advanced Magic knowledge and numerous branches.
For example: Cross-Species Transfiguration, Human Transfiguration, Summoning, Revelation, and Animagus Transfiguration, among others.
Moreover, it had to follow the fundamental Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration.
This law clearly states that when you use Transfiguration to change one object into another, the effect is not permanent. Once the time limit is reached, it will revert to its original form.
So, if you turn a stone into a loaf of bread, that's possible. But if you eat the bread, once the Magic effect wears off, your stomach will contain a stone, not bread.
However, if you turn a cup of tea into rum, that's fine.
Because even when the Magic wears off, it won't harm your body.
In conclusion, it's impossible to use Transfiguration to create a table full of edible food out of thin air.
The method Wizards use to cook with Magic is mostly what Jerry is using now. All the tools and ingredients are needed, but the process is significantly shortened.
However, there is one limitation to using Cooking Magic: the Wizard's culinary skills must be up to par.
The taste of the food you create with Cooking Magic will be exactly the same as if you had cooked it yourself.
If you're a kitchen novice, these Cooking Magics won't be of much use to you.
This applies to household cleaning spells as well. The effectiveness of the Magic depends on the Wizard's household skills.
Therefore, both Kitchen Cooking Magic and Household Magic are very easy to learn. However, to achieve good results, the Wizard must have a certain level of proficiency in cooking and household chores.
Fortunately, Jerry was quite confident in his skills.
After years of practice, his household and cooking skills were at least at a level 90, if not a perfect 100.
On his first try with Cooking Magic, the results were surprisingly good. Satisfied, Jerry cast a Heating Charm on the three dishes and soup before leaving the kitchen.
Hass usually got off work around 6:30 to 7:00 PM, so Jerry had over an hour to read more Magic books.
Learning is endless. To use Magic effectively, one must spend time studying and not slack off.
