Chapter 49: Do You Want an Opponent?
Chapter 49: Do You Want an Opponent?
East Suburbs of Kanaz City.
“Come out, Fossil Dragonite.”
Satoshi threw the Poke Ball, and in a flash of red light, a majestic Fossil Dragonite appeared.
“Roar—”
Its mighty cry echoed through the mountains, a true Flying-type Pokemon!
“Huh!”
It can fly!
Gastly’s eyes sparkled. Regardless of anything else, Satoshi’s Pokemon were all pretty impressive.
“Jing He,” Satoshi looked at Jing He.
From what could be observed, the Fossil Dragonite didn’t seem to have any major issues. However, it might be due to the recent capture that it wasn’t very close to Satoshi.
Of course, in such a short time, just a glance wouldn’t reveal much. Otherwise, Jing He wouldn’t be a Pokemon psychologist but a Pokemon fortune-teller.
“Can you have it use a move? Any move will do,” Jing He said.
Satoshi nodded.
With a wave of his hand, he commanded, “Fossil Dragonite, Dragon Dance!”
“Roar!!”
The Fossil Dragonite roared to the sky, its aura rising sharply. Its massive wings flapped, lifting it into the air, and the rushing wind stirred the surrounding grass and trees, creating a fearsome scene.
Jing He’s lips twitched.
Actually, there was no need to use Dragon Dance to emphasize it.
However, as the Fossil Dragonite performed the move, Jing He's vision displayed the Fossil Dragonite’s Pokedex entry.

Fossil Dragonite is a ferocious Pokemon from ancient times, with a brutal temperament, once the ruler of the vast skies of the ancient world.
According to legend, ancient Fossil Dragonites had Dragon-type attributes, but their attributes changed after a long period of dormancy in the rocks.
‘A survivor from an ancient era?’
Jing He glanced at the Gastly beside him.
This little guy is over a thousand years old, right?
“Huh?”
Noticing Jing He’s gaze, Gastly looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Licking its tongue, it smiled menacingly, looking quite adorable.
Jing He turned his gaze back to the Fossil Dragonite.
He rubbed his chin, “The problem isn’t too severe. It might be due to the changes in time and environment, making it difficult for it to adapt. Combined with its nature and the long period of hibernation, it’s causing excessive excitement and emotional instability.”
“Can it be treated?” Satoshi asked.
“Given time, it will recover on its own, but it might take three to five years.”
Three to five years?
Before Satoshi could speak, Jing He continued, “Of course, with a combination of psychological therapy and physical intervention, the process can be much faster.”
This relieved Satoshi.
The Fossil Dragonite’s combat potential was a secondary concern; he just didn’t want to see it suffer.
“What should we do?”
“If I were to handle it, I would—”
“Huh!!”
Gastly suddenly shouted.
It’s flying away!
Huh?
Satoshi and Jing He both looked at the Fossil Dragonite.
They saw the Fossil Dragonite, which had flown high into the sky after performing Dragon Dance, now flapping its wings and heading toward the mountains, its speed increasing, as if in a hurry.
This made both of them change their expressions.
What’s going on?
At this distance, it was already beyond the range of the Poke Ball.
“The Greenleaf Mountain Range is ahead.”
According to the Hoenn region map, Kanaz City is located directly west of Hoenn. To the east is the Greenleaf Mountain Range, followed by Greenleaf Town.
If it flies deep into the mountains, it will be very hard to find.
Satoshi immediately jumped onto Charizard’s back and said to Jing He, “I’ll go after it!”
Jing He quickly responded, “Don’t stop it. See what it wants.”
Satoshi was taken aback but then nodded.
“Alright!”
Charizard flapped its wings, also performing Dragon Dance, and soared into the sky, gradually catching up to the Fossil Dragonite.
“Huh”
Gastly swallowed hard.
Doesn’t he get dizzy?
Each Pokemon, including Charizard, has a unique way of performing Dragon Dance, but one thing is common: since it’s a “dance,” it inevitably involves some movements, such as spiraling upward.
Charizard had spun several times to gain speed just now.
Really not dizzy?
Jing He’s expression darkened.
Is this even about being dizzy?
After a brief moment of contemplation, he said:
"Let’s go and take a look."
The wilds of the Pokemon world are not safe, and can even be considered extremely dangerous. As a teacher at the Kanaz Pokemon Academy, Jing He was well aware of this.
However, this area was close to Kanaz City, and because Devon Corporation was excavating the Greenhill Mountains for the "Green Tunnel," they had driven away many of the wild Pokemon in the vicinity. As long as one didn’t venture too deep, the danger was relatively low.
Of course, some weaker and more docile Pokemon still existed.
In the dense grass, one could see the silhouettes of various wild Pokemon.
Jing He even spotted a few Bug Catchers crouching by the grass, who seemed eager to "chat" with him. However, Jing He wisely chose to pretend he didn’t see them.
They were all struggling enough; he didn’t need to take their pocket money.
Besides, they didn’t have much money anyway.
Fortunately, the Fossil Winged Dragon hadn’t flown very far, landing before they reached the Greenhill Mountains.
It stopped in front of a newly excavated tunnel.
There were many large machines around.
The forest and mountains had been significantly damaged.
There were hardly any wild Pokemon in sight.
Jing He couldn’t help but frown.
This was the harm humans caused to nature and wild Pokemon.
The sudden appearance of the Fossil Winged Dragon clearly startled many of Devon Corporation’s workers. A few Machokes and Steelixes were circling around, on high alert.
The construction team leader was on the phone.
Jing He hurried over and showed the "Devon Corporation Advisor" badge that President Zuvich had given him the day before.
"Sorry, we’ll be leaving soon."
Seeing the badge, the construction team leader was taken aback.
He then said a few words to the person on the other end of the phone and hung up.
"Mr. Advisor, this is—"
Jing He shook his head, not wanting to elaborate.
He walked forward.
He saw Akuroma and the Charizard standing beside him, both with complex expressions.
The Fossil Winged Dragon had already landed.
In its claws was a muddy, orange amber, and it was making a low, mournful sound, seeming both sad and helpless.
Fossil Winged Dragons have a fondness for amber, perhaps because it reminds them of their former companions.
After all, unlike Akuroma’s naturally awakened Fossil Winged Dragon, most Fossil Winged Dragons today are revived from the genetic material in amber.
This amber might contain the essence of one of its former kin.
"Gastly" murmured, feeling a sense of empathy for the Fossil Winged Dragon.
Jing He brushed aside its mist, feeling the tingling sensation on his fingertips, and gave it a comforting look.
"Gastly~~ (It’s okay)"
Gastly’s eyes rippled.
I have Jing He, so I’m not alone!
"Jing He, the Fossil Winged Dragon—"
Akuroma opened his mouth but wasn’t sure how to continue.
"I know someone who might be able to help it."
Jing He sighed and took out a "Cheri Berry."
Akuroma’s eyes lit up.
"But this is just a temporary fix. We need to help the Fossil Winged Dragon regain its confidence or, more importantly, set a new goal."
"Set a goal?"
"Crunch. For a former aerial dominator like the Fossil Winged Dragon, the best method is to give it a strong opponent!" Jing He said, biting into the berry but still speaking clearly.
"Should I have Charizard or Gyarados—"
"Your Pokemon won’t work. They’re too close, so it won’t have the desired effect, and if they’re too distant, it might cause internal conflicts. We need someone else to do it."
Hearing this, Akuroma’s gaze involuntarily turned to Gastly.
Gastly shuddered.
"Gastly?!"
What are you planning? Your eyes are so unscrupulous!
Making it fight the Fossil Winged Dragon would be too much to ask of Gastly!
"Gastly isn’t strong enough, and since it’s an aerial dominator, the best target would be a Flying-type Pokemon."
Jing He’s words made Gastly breathe a sigh of relief.
Scared me to death.
Akuroma looked troubled.
Should I ask Shizuka? But her strength is still lacking.
"It’s fine, I already have someone in mind."
Saying this, Jing He took out his phone and made a call.
"Teacher Jing He?"
A voice came from the other end of the line.
"Dai, do you need an opponent? I’ll send it to you soon."
"Eh?!"
