Chapter 49: Armed Permit
Chapter 49: Armed Permit
Wei Chang'an drove Chen Chuan back to the residential area of the Patrol Bureau's family housing. As Chen Chuan prepared to get off the car, Wei Chang'an asked, "By the way, I forgot to ask earlier, who's your guidance teacher, junior?"
"Cheng Zitong."
"Cheng Zitong? Is it him?" Wei Chang'an's expression was a bit peculiar.
"What's wrong, brother Wei? Do you think it's inappropriate?"
Wei Chang'an shook his head and spoke seriously, "The school assigning him as your guidance teacher means he's definitely suitable. I just didn't expect it to be him; I always thought he was just the deputy director of the logistics department."
"But it's good too. At least, junior, you won't lack training resources in the future. He's our school's second manager. If brother Wei ever needs something, he might even ask you for help. Alright, let's go!"
Wei Chang'an waved at Chen Chuan, started the car, and slowly drove off towards the other end of the road.
Chen Chuan, on the other hand, walked into an alley on the side. After a short while, he returned home, as he had called ahead, and Yu Wan had been waiting for him. Seeing him return so early, she was delighted and showed her concern. To ease Yu Wan's worries, Chen Chuan briefly recounted what had happened at school.
Yu Wan, busy with something stewing on the stove, asked a few questions before returning to her tasks. As Yan Xiaojing had work at the Affairs Office, his days off were irregular, and he wouldn't be back until evening, so Chen Chuan went to the living room first and called Ding Jiao.
After a brief chat with her, he spent a considerable amount of time playing with his cousins. By noon, they had lunch together.
In the afternoon, Chen Chuan decided to visit the Fist Academy and bring the medicine to Lu Ke. He bid farewell to Yu Wan and left the house.
On his way, he also stopped by Wei Dong's house. Seeing no one inside, he asked a neighboring resident, as it was a day off, and learned that Wei Dong had been moving things in and out. He couldn't help but smile and, without lingering, headed straight for the Fist Academy.
Emerging from the small alley, he saw a group of children practicing punches on the playground while Lu Ke patiently instructed them, occasionally correcting their postures. Despite their young age, these children executed their moves with precision.
Chen Chuan couldn't help but smile and called out, "Brother Lu!"
Lu Ke turned around, and upon seeing Chen Chuan, his face lit up with surprise. "Brother Chen?" He calmed the children beside him and immediately ran over, slapping hands with Chen Chuan. Excited and curious, he asked, "Brother Chen, how come you're free today?"
Smiling, Chen Chuan replied, "Isn't today a day off? So I came to see you and Mr. Yu."
Lu Ke scratched his head and said, "Unfortunately, my master is out. He has some matters to attend to these days, and I don't know when he'll be back." Then, with curiosity, he asked, "How's it been at Wu Yi University? What's it like there? How do you feel about it?"
Chen Chuan pondered, "Well, it's both similar and different from what I imagined, but I always learn something. Let's find time later to chat in detail."
Lu Ke was envious, "I really envy you for having the chance to study there."
Chen Chuan gestured forward and asked, "Where are these kids from?"
Lu Ke explained, "They're children of the Iron Chain Gang members. Mr. Qi asked them to send their kids here to learn martial arts. That senior who sparred with you last time inquired about you, but I didn't tell him about you."
Chen Chuan took off his shoulder bag and retrieved the Combat Powder from inside. "Brother Lu, this is the Combat Powder I bought for you at Wu Yi University."
Lu Ke felt embarrassed, "You still remembered."
Smiling, Chen Chuan said, "Of course I'd repay you for using it. By the way, this powder is potent, enough for two people. Don't use too much when you take it."
Lu Ke said, "Okay, Brother Chen, thank you."
At this moment, Chen Chuan sensed something and saw two burly men walking out of the building, eyeing him with caution. But seeing him chatting and laughing with Lu Ke, they returned inside.
Lu Ke explained, "They're from the Iron Chain Gang, responsible for picking up and dropping off these kids. By the way, let me finish this class first, wait a moment." He apologized and returned to teaching the children before letting them play freely. Then, he turned back and called out, "Let's go, Brother Chen, let's chat upstairs."
The two of them went up to the rooftop. Lu Ke opened a bottle of soda and poured a cup for Chen Chuan and himself. Then, impatiently, he began asking about Wu Yi University.
Chen Chuan gave a general overview, focusing more on the campus environment than the training. Lu Ke listened with great yearning, wanting to clarify every detail, especially about Spring-Autumn Lake, which he kept asking about persistently.
Lu Ke expressed his longing, "In Jiao Mountain, there's only underground water, no lakes, not even creeks. But that water is bitter and astringent, with an indescribable strange taste."
"However, he didn't seem too keen on discussing that matter either. After a few words, he stopped and asked, 'By the way, have you been practicing the throwing technique I taught you last time?'"
Chen Chuan replied, "I practice it whenever I have free time, but it's not very convenient to do so in school. Nonetheless, this skill is very useful, and I won't give it up."
The last time he visited Guo Pangzi, if not for this throwing technique, he wouldn't have been able to take down Zhai Wu so quickly, nor would it have been this easy to catch Qiu Huzi. Moreover, his past life ended beneath a pile of stones, so he wanted to learn more about this aspect.
He stayed there until around 4 pm and then bid farewell to Lu Ke before returning home. On the way back, he passed by the residential area of the long alley and glanced at the balcony, seeing that it seemed unoccupied. He thought to himself that he could always see them at school, so he ran home.
In the evening, when Nian Fuli returned from work, the family was finally reunited. During dinner, Chen Chuan shared the school's situation and also mentioned Wei Chang'an's matter.
Nian Fuli hummed, "This Wei Tiger has a good son."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment but decided not to ask about the mop incident. After all, this was a matter between Nian Fuli and Wei Tiger, and he didn't need to get involved.
After staying at home for the night, Chen Chuan returned to school early the next morning. He looked at the time; it was only a little past seven, and Cheng Zitong hadn't arrived yet, so he started practicing in the personal training room.
After mastering the Vital Gate Breathing Technique, he felt his punches becoming stronger and his control over techniques even more effortless with each practice session.
Undoubtedly, the altered fascia had been immensely beneficial to him, but this also indicated that the growth rate of the altered tissue was accelerating. If he didn't find a way to constrain it, he feared he would soon reach a dangerous state. So, he secretly thought that he must quickly master his power.
At around 8 am, there was a knock on the door. He walked over and opened it, and sure enough, it was Cheng Zitong. After greeting him, he invited him in.
Cheng Zitong entered and sat on the sofa, saying, "I'll tell you about something first."
He took out a document from his bag, "The registration for this year's Weapon Permit Selection Exam is about to start, but due to limited quotas, there will be strict restrictions.
Firstly, you must have at least three evaluations with a rating of 'Excellent' or above for important commissioned tasks; secondly, the minimum requirement for applicants is the mastery of power, regardless of major or minor power, and finally..."
His expression turned solemn, "This exam is linked to the midterm and final exams. If you pass, you'll be exempted from the midterm and final exams for this academic year. But if you fail, you'll be demoted to a Class B student. There are also other requirements listed here; you can read them yourself if you want to take the exam."
Chen Chuan took the document and flipped through it. He looked up and asked, "What's your opinion, Teacher?"
Cheng Zitong said, "I won't make the decision for you; I'll just explain the situation. In my personal view, this permit is extremely important for you, extremely important! If I were you, I'd do everything possible to obtain it!"
Chen Chuan deeply agreed; since the teacher had emphasized it three times, it must be very important.
Cheng Zitong continued, "Since this is a selection exam held every two years, it means you'll only get this one chance while in school. If you don't take the exam this time, you'll have to rely on accumulating evaluations through external missions.
Assuming you consistently receive commissioned tasks and complete them smoothly, it might take around two years to obtain the permit. But if you can get the Weapon Permit first, wouldn't it be better to use the additional evaluation points from commissioned tasks to aim for the Armor Permit?"
Chen Chuan agreed with this statement. The document's explanation was similar to what Wei Chang'an had said; with this permit, one could carry weapons on their person, and it was universally recognized worldwide.
At the same time, he could see that carrying weapons during commissioned tasks would be far more efficient than going unarmed. Clients would prioritize him if they knew he had a Weapon Permit, and the more commissioned tasks he completed successfully, the more they would choose him.
In other words, a student with a Weapon Permit would undoubtedly leave their classmates, and even some senior students, far behind. Chen Chuan raised his head, his eyes serious, and said, "Teacher Cheng, I'll find a way to get this permit."
