Chapter 489: Taking a Break
Chapter 489: Taking a Break
Lu Jiaxin had accurately predicted a huge profit, and there was no way to keep this news under wraps.
After waiting for Lu Jiaxin to calm down, Nie Zhan said, "Jiaxin, even before the stock market crash, we had our eyes on several plots of land and old buildings. We're already in negotiations, and once we reach an agreement, we'll sign the contracts. Those properties were valued at 6 billion yuan. Our company can't take on such a large project, so we'll let Xin Xin Property grab them. When the news gets out, everyone will know about your massive windfall."
Lu Jiaxin immediately understood that this meant she shouldn't continue her studies, as it could be dangerous. "Then I won't go to school tomorrow. Hmm, can I still take my final exams?"
Nie Zhan shook her head. "You don't need to go for the final exams either. We'll donate 10 million yuan to the school to build a library, and they'll ensure you graduate smoothly."
Lu Jiaxin wasn't worried about graduation at all. Smiling, she said, "I started trading foreign exchange and shorting the Hang Seng Index after entering HKU's Finance program. It would be a great honor for the school to have nurtured such an outstanding student like me. They wouldn't possibly deny my graduation."
Nie Zhan laughed and said, "You're absolutely right. Even without the donation, the school would let you graduate. But as an HKU student, donating for the library will leave a lasting legacy."
Lu Jiaxin didn't care much for such empty fame. However, since she had studied at HKU for over two years, it would be a nice gesture to give back to the school now that she had the means.
Originally, Lu Jiaxin had planned to lie low until the end of the year. But with this sudden turn of events and no need to attend school, she certainly couldn't just stay cooped up at home!
After some thought, Lu Jiaxin said, "Zhan, since I have some free time anyway, I plan to make a trip back to the mainland."
With no one aware of her itinerary and the tighter security measures in place, she wasn't worried about being followed. However, the same couldn't be said if she stayed in Hong Kong City.
"Are you going to see Ms. Gu?"
Lu Jiaxin intended to climb Mount Heng and Mount Song. "Before graduating from university, I wanted to climb all five of the famous mountains in China. The weather is perfect for hiking right now. If we wait any longer, it'll get too cold for mountaineering."
Previously, Nie Zhan had talked about finding time to climb Mount Tai, but they hadn't made it happen yet. Every time they discussed taking a vacation and traveling, something unexpected would pop up and ruin their plans.
Thanks to Lu Jiaxin's explanation, Nie Zhan now knew which five mountains were considered the most prestigious in China. "Are you going to climb Mount Heng first, then Mount Song, and afterward, return to Sijiu City to visit Ms. Gu?"
Lu Jiaxin nodded. "The last time Aunt Mei called, she sounded completely incoherent. This time, I want to bring her back with me."
It was better for Aunt Mei to stay in the mainland while she was still lucid, allowing her to enjoy the vibrant local culture. But once she became completely senile, it wouldn't matter where she stayed. Although Aunt Mei and Aunt Hong were trustworthy, they were getting on in years, and the caregivers they hired might not be as diligent. After bringing her back, Gu Haifan could also keep an eye on her, and no one would dare pull any tricks. Additionally, with a doctor on call, any minor health issues could be promptly addressed.
Nie Zhan looked at her and asked, "Jiaxin, when will we go back to Sijiu City together and introduce me to your relatives?"
Lu Jiaxin had no intention of doing so anytime soon. "We'll invite them over for our engagement, and then I can introduce you to them."
Nie Zhan was both surprised and delighted. "You agreed?"
Lu Jiaxin huffed. "Not until at least the end of next year. It's enough that you know. Don't tell your family yet, I don't want them bothering me."
Nie Zhan was so excited that she hugged Jiaxin tightly and showered her with kisses.
Lu Jiaxin, her face smeared with saliva, pushed her away in disgust and ran into the bathroom to wash her face. When she came out and saw Nie Zhan's goofy smile, she couldn't help but laugh as well.
Although the engagement came sooner than she expected, Nie Zhan had been so good to her, and she was sure that her future would be filled with happiness. Of course, even if he changed his heart later on, she had the confidence to handle it.
The next day, Lu Jiaxin called her class teacher to inform her about taking an extended leave. Without going into specifics, she merely mentioned that she wouldn't be able to attend school for a while.
The teacher asked, "Landmate, if you don't tell me the specific reason, it will be hard for me to report this to the higher-ups."
Lu Jiaxin laughed and said, "I've recently made some money, and my boyfriend is worried about my safety, so he asked me to stay away from school for a while. Teacher, isn't the school planning to build a library? I intend to donate ten million Hong Kong dollars."
The teacher fell silent for five seconds before replying, "I will report this to the leadership."
After taking leave, Lu Jiaxin headed to the headquarters of Green Forest. There, she listened to Xu Yue and Susan report on the company's recent operations and the issues they had encountered.
With its rapid expansion, Green Forest now boasted 48 branches, and all the profits were reinvested into opening new branches. As they continued to grow, they inevitably faced various challenges. Fortunately, Lu Jiaxin had the experience to tackle each problem that arose.
This visit had two purposes: first, to understand the company's recent performance and the issues they were facing, and second, to inform them that she intended to inject another 30 million into the company. With this influx of cash, they wouldn't need to borrow from the bank anymore.
This was undoubtedly good news for the company, and both Xu Yue and Susan were delighted. Out of curiosity, Susan asked, "Boss, I heard from my mommy that He Yuan made a killing in the stock market this time around."
Lu Jiaxin exclaimed, "How did you find out?"
Susan explained, "My older brother went back to the old mansion to visit Grandpa yesterday, but he got scolded by Grandpa, who told him to learn from He Yuan."
The intention behind visiting Grandpa Su at this time was obvious. Lu Jiaxin had no interest in Su Hexu and casually asked, "Did you lose a lot in this stock market crash?"
Susan wisely refrained from prying further and replied, "I bought stocks worth 800,000 yuan, but now they're only worth a little over 500,000. But I don't need the money urgently, so I'll just leave it invested for now."
What a commendable mindset!
Xu Yue, on the other hand, was feeling glum. "I bought stocks worth 1.3 million yuan, and they soared to 2.4 million. But now, they've plummeted to just over 900,000."
Compared to their incomes, these losses were manageable and wouldn't significantly impact their lives or work.
In the afternoon, Lu Jiaxin went to Xin Xin Property for a meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. She had chosen the timing herself, and the main agenda was the purchase of prime real estate and land banking.
When Tan Gang heard her plans, he was so shocked that he stumbled over his words: "Old... Old... Boss, did you just say you intend to spend... how much on land banking and property acquisition?"
Lu Jiaxin smiled and clarified, "You heard right—2 billion for land banking and 1 billion for prime real estate. I've already transferred 100 million into the account to be used for purchasing shops and high-end apartments. If there are any office buildings for sale or plots of land with development potential, and the prices are right, we'll approach Nie Zhan to seal the deal."
For amounts this large, she couldn't possibly authorize Tan Gang to handle them, so Nie Zhan would transfer the funds into the company's account when needed.
Tan Gang listened with growing confusion. "Boss, why do we need to involve Mr. Nie?"
Lu Jiaxin smiled and explained, "I need to make a trip abroad and will probably be away for about a month."
Ever since the kidnapping incident, she had become even more cautious, and her bodyguards were equally tight-lipped. Even those close to her, like Zong Shimeng and Shi Xinyu, wouldn't disclose the timing and locations of their gatherings.
