Chapter 489: S-Class Mage Jerry? (1st Update)
Chapter 489: S-Class Mage Jerry? (1st Update)
“I’m not very familiar with rituals, but I’ve started reading about them recently. However, I do know a bit about Wind Magic, so I should be able to try and dispel it.”
Jerry noticed everyone looking at him, realizing they were out of options. He smiled and walked toward the Galewall.
Indeed, he had only recently started learning about the rituals of this world from magic books, and was still in the early stages of exploration. Relying solely on technique, he definitely wouldn’t be able to break a high-level ritual like the Galewall.
However, he always understood one fundamental principle: brute force can overcome all.
In the many worlds he had experienced, he had encountered various similar situations, but there was never anything absolute in the world.
Either your understanding was lacking, or your power was insufficient.
As long as your power was strong enough, any absolute defense or unbreakable barrier was just nonsense and could be shattered easily.
The high-level Galewall ritual was indeed powerful. A typical S-Class Mage would find it very difficult to break it unless they had a significant advantage over Wind Magic, which was why Eligoy was so confident.
But Jerry was different. First, his total magic power was even stronger than that of the Ten Saints, including Makarov. Moreover, the continuous growth of the Cat Mages in the Spatial Ring was increasing his magic power at an impressive rate every day.
Additionally, having studied and researched magic from numerous worlds, he had a deep understanding of many magical systems, especially the fundamental elements like wind, fire, lightning, and water, which he could control to a great extent.
He came to this world to learn magic not because his own magic was inadequate, but to integrate unseen magical systems and theories, further refining his own magical system to reach a higher level of power.
So, while the high-level Galewall ritual was indeed powerful, it was no match for him.
“Jerry, it’s dangerous! Come back, you’ll be sliced into pieces by the wind blades!”
Erza saw Jerry walking toward the tornado and was immediately alarmed. She struggled to her feet to warn him.
High-level magic rituals like this were different from ordinary magic. They required preparation and had to be set up in specific locations in advance to be effective.
They had many drawbacks and were rarely useful in combat unless used to mislead, as was the case today.
However, these magic rituals had endured through the ages for a reason.
Once set up, their power far exceeded that of ordinary magic spells.
So, to break Eligoy’s high-level Galewall by brute force, Jerry would need to have a deeper understanding and application of Wind Magic than Eligoy, who was nearly an S-Class Wind Mage.
Even she herself, at her peak, needed to wear the Wind God Armor and wield the Wind God Sword to barely break it.
How could Jerry, who claimed to know a bit about Wind Magic, possibly break the Galewall?
Unlike her and Natsu and Gray, who had trained their bodies for years, Jerry would likely be reduced to a pile of meat if he was hit by the Galewall.
“Hahahaha, you think a little knowledge of Wind Magic will break my Galewall? Are all Fairy Tail Mages this ignorant?
Very well, I’ll wait and watch you be sliced into pieces before flying to Crovell Town to kill your guildmaster!”
Eligoy had already planned to leave, but hearing Jerry’s words from the tornado below, he was amused by the other’s “ignorance.”
Deciding to watch the suicidal spectacle unfold before continuing with his grand plan, Jerry easily dodged Gray and Natsu, who were trying to pull him back. Extending a single finger, a surge of powerful magic power erupted from his body:
"Wind!"
A substantial, green breeze shot out from his fingertip, forcefully merging with the raging tornado.
In an instant, the rapidly spinning tornado seemed to be assimilated, spreading outward from Jerry’s fingertip to encompass the entire vortex.
In less than a second, the violent tornado abruptly stopped spinning, transforming into a gentle green breeze that softly swept over the train station before dissipating into the air.
"You see, it’s not as dangerous as you thought. It’s quite simple!"
Jerry retracted his finger and turned to Erza and the others, who were staring at him in disbelief, flashing a large smile.
"Impossible, how could this be!!!"
At that moment, Eligoy, floating in mid-air, his face contorted in shock, let out an incredulous roar.
Even if he were trapped within the Galewall, he wouldn’t have been able to break it so easily, let alone a Fairy Tail mage he had never heard of, who didn’t even have a name.
What was more, the way the other party had dismantled the Galewall was so effortless, as if it were a trivial Magic.
This situation, which defied his understanding, left him momentarily unable to accept it.
"Good job, Jerry. I’ll take it from here!"
Natsu, not one to overthink things, was elated to see Jerry break the cursed Galewall. Flames erupted from his feet, boosting his strength, and he leaped toward Eligoy in the air.
Gray, not to be outdone, clashed his fists and palms, using the unique Ice-Make Magic of his style to create a staircase of ice rising from the ground. He then stepped on the staircase and charged up as well:
"Natsu, don’t you dare take him from me, he’s mine!"
Seeing Natsu and Gray charging at him from either side, Eligoy sneered:
"Raging Wind!"
With a swift swing of his scythe, two small tornadoes formed and shot out at breakneck speed, sending Natsu and Gray flying in opposite directions.
The purpose of his attack on the train station was to trap the Fairy Tail mages who had been tailing them, or more specifically, the S-Class Mage known as the Queen of Fairies, whom he feared.
He needed to prevent the exposure of his plan to use the Cursed Flute to eliminate the leaders of the major guilds.
As for the others, like the two young mages attacking him now, he didn’t give them a second thought.
"I don’t know what strange method you used to break my Galewall, but since you’ve done this, I’ll have to kill you all before heading to Crovell Town!"
At this point, the Queen of Fairies’ magic power was nearly depleted, and she was no longer a threat. Even with the Galewall broken, he wasn’t overly concerned.
For him, it was merely a matter of wasting some time.
Overconfident people are often like this; they believe everything is under their control, even when events have already slipped from their grasp. They tend to ignore the signs or convince themselves otherwise.
Like how, despite Jerry effortlessly breaking his Galewall, which suggested the possibility of a more powerful Wind Magic user, he refused to believe it.
Because he couldn’t fathom the idea of someone being that much stronger than him.
