Chapter 489: All of These Are Gifts from My Godfather
Chapter 489: All of These Are Gifts from My Godfather
Fred and George had been lingering in the entrance hall all afternoon. Upon hearing Harry's words, Kyle immediately guessed that the twins must have been waiting for him there.
Unfortunately, he hadn't entered through the front doors.
"I'm not looking for them," Kyle shook his head. "Sirius asked me to bring you some things."
"Sirius?" Harry paused, "You don't mean he's come to Hogwarts...no, that's too dangerous. I'm going to find him right now!"
With that, he turned to dash towards the common room entrance.
"No, he's not here," Kyle stopped him in time. "And even if he was, it wouldn't matter. The Ministry's retrial just ended, and he's been declared innocent."
Harry blinked, then his face lit up with joy. He grabbed Kyle's arm excitedly and asked, "Really? You're not joking, are you?"
"Why would I joke about this?" Kyle said, "The process is complicated to explain in a sentence or two. You should read the newspaper instead...they printed an emergency extra edition this afternoon, and many people should have received it by now."
Harry immediately turned to look at the others, hoping to spot someone holding the latest copy of the Prophet. He mentally berated himself for not ordering a copy as well.
"Don't worry," Kyle said, "The owl carrying your letter is already on its way. So, you might as well put away the things he bought for you first, and don't be late for dinner."
He took out the chameleon-skin bag and started pulling out the contents one by one.
A top-of-the-line wand maintenance kit...parchment with golden trim...Mermaid brand ink...Hag's feather quill...dragon blood...dragon liver...a sapphire star chart...a huge bucket of candies...a huge bucket of chocolates...a pure gold crucible...
With each item Kyle pulled out, Ron's jaw dropped a little further.
These were all the most expensive items from the shops in Diagon Alley, with ridiculously high prices, always displayed in the most prominent positions. He had once commented to Harry that only rich Slytherins, like Malfoy, would use such flashy and impractical things.
But he never imagined that one day, these items would appear in the Gryffindor common room, and they would be for Harry...
Especially when the sapphire star chart and pure gold crucible were taken out, Ron felt the entire common room seemed to brighten.
The dazzling golden light also attracted the attention of others, and they gathered around.
Although these items might not be as expensive as the fire crossbow Harry received last year, the collection was still quite stunning.
"That's all," Kyle said, putting down the last item, the pure gold crucible, and clapping his hands.
"These...are all for me?" Harry was a bit dazed.
"Some of them," Kyle thought for a moment. "But for things like stationery, sweets, and chocolates...Sirius meant for you to share them with your friends. He bought a lot, and you obviously won't be able to finish them all by yourself."
This was indeed Sirius' original intention. After all, he had bought twenty sets of ink and Hag's feather quills. If it were just for Harry, he might not finish using them in ten years.
Unless he suddenly developed a passion for studying...but that possibility was slim.
Harry hadn't fully processed what was happening, but seeing the sparkling eyes of those around him, he pushed the items forward, "Oh, okay...help yourselves."
"Hail to you, Potter!"
"Potter is our king!"
Everyone exaggerated their thanks to Harry while choosing their favorite quills and candies.
However, he felt that he wouldn't be able to use this parchment; it would be a crime to use such fine material for homework.
Hermione, on the other hand, carefully tucked the sheets of parchment into a large book, intending to use them when necessary, such as when writing suggestion letters to the Ministry.
There were about a dozen people in the common room at the moment, and after everyone had taken their share, there were just a few quills and ink bottles left, along with half a bucket of candies.
Harry put them away, intending to give them to Ginny and Neville when they arrived.
As they were distributing the items, Kyle had already reached the door of the common room.
Now that he had delivered the items, it was time to leave. If he stayed any longer, it would be even harder to depart, and it would be better to let Sirius answer any lingering questions.
After all, this was a rare form of interaction.
As Kyle pushed open the door, he saw a forlorn figure standing there.
"Neville," Kyle asked, "did you forget the password again?"
"No, I know the password, 'gibberish'," he said, extending his arm to show the words written on his palm.
"Then why aren't you coming in?"
"Fat Lady... she's not here," Neville said, his voice tinged with sadness and a sense of injustice.
First, he was unable to enter because he forgot the password, and now, even with the correct password, he still couldn't get in. Who could he turn to for help?
"Hmm..." Kyle looked at the empty portrait frame and muttered, "I wonder how long Phineas was beaten for. It's been a while, and they still haven't returned..."
"What did you say? I didn't quite catch that," Neville asked, tilting his head.
"Oh, nothing," Kyle said as he stepped out. "I was just saying that the Fat Lady might have gone to visit another painting. Hurry up and go in; the door will close soon."
"Th-thank you..." Neville quickly scurried inside.
Once the door closed, he heaved a sigh of relief and patted his chest. "Good thing Kyle was there. Otherwise, who knows how long he would've been standing outside... Hmm? Kyle?"
Neville suddenly recalled something and looked around with a furrowed brow.
The golden-red sofas and drapes were familiar—he was indeed in the Gryffindor common room.
But wasn't Kyle in Hufflepuff? Why was he coming out of the Gryffindor common room...
"Neville..."
Just as Neville was feeling perplexed, he heard someone calling his name.
Harry hurried over and asked, "Did you just see Kyle?"
"Yes, he let me in," Neville replied.
"When was that?"
"Just now, a minute ago."
"Oh... Has he left already? I had so many more questions for him," Harry sighed in frustration.
"What happened?" Neville asked curiously. "Why was Kyle here?"
"He came to deliver some things to me," Harry explained. "By the way, you're just in time. These are for you."
He casually handed a quill and an ink bottle to a bewildered Neville, then took the bucket of candies.
"Don't mention it. Take as much as you like. These are all from my godfather," Harry said.
