On the weekend, Lu Jiaxin was free and called Zong Simeng to arrange a shopping trip on Saturday. This time, they didn't go to Central, but instead headed to Harbour City.
Harbour City was a familiar haunt for Lu Jiaxin. It boasted a plethora of high-end cosmetic brands, as well as stores specializing in skincare, perfumes, and personal care products. Of course, it also had the luxury brands beloved by Zong Simeng, such as Hermes and LV.
Upon meeting up, Lu Jiaxin asked in surprise, "Sister Simeng, it's only been a week since we last met, but you seem to have lost quite a bit of weight."
Zong Simeng touched her face unconsciously and laughed, "How sharp are your eyes? I've only lost three pounds, and you noticed? Meiton, did you notice too?"
Yu Meiton shook her head honestly.
Before entering the mall, Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "Today, Sister Simeng is treating us to a big meal, and I'll gift each of you a bag, no matter the brand."
Upon hearing this, Yu Meiton said, "Jiaxin, the Green Forest VIP card you gave me last time was already very valuable. I don't need a bag."
After Yu Meiton mentioned that she couldn't afford the clothes at Green Forest, Lu Jiaxin had given her a card that entitled her to a 50% discount at any Green Forest store.
Zong Simeng interjected, "Jiaxin made a lot of money this time, and treating us is just a small token of her appreciation. Just accept it. Work hard, and when you get your bonus, you can treat us to afternoon tea."
Shi Xinyu nudged her and smiled, "It's fine. Jiaxin is a big spender now. A bag is nothing to her."
Zong Simeng couldn't help but feel a little helpless, wondering when this girl would learn to be more tactful with her words.
Lu Jiaxin didn't mind, and instead draped an arm around Yu Meiton's shoulders, saying, "Let's enjoy our day out. Meiton, don't be a party pooper."
Yu Meiton smiled and stopped refusing, happily accepting the offer.
Lu Jiaxin had found shopping with Nie Zhan dull, but she always enjoyed it when she went with Zong Simeng and the others. They started by looking at skincare products, and each of them chose items that suited their skin. Zong Simeng paid for these.
Next, they went to look at bags, and Yu Meiton mentioned that the Donkey Bag store had some new designs, so the four of them headed over. Each of them picked out a donkey bag.
Lu Jiaxin knew that Yu Meiton didn't want to buy an Hermes bag. Ever since she realized how hard it was to earn money, Yu Meiton had become very frugal and was reluctant to spend their money, even though she knew they could afford it.
Zong Simeng was a considerate person. Noticing this, she decided against going to Hermes and instead suggested they look at clothes. Lu Jiaxin had a good eye for fashion, and the clothes she picked for Zong Simeng always fit well and looked beautiful. Her husband often complimented her on her choices, so she especially enjoyed shopping with Lu Jiaxin.
Yu Meiton also had a good sense of style. While Lu Jiaxin helped Zong Simeng, Yu Meiton assisted Shi Xinyu with her choices. The outfits they picked were cute and playful, perfectly suited to Shi Xinyu's taste.
After Shi Xinyu had finished buying her clothes, she turned to Yu Meiton and said, "Meiton, go and pick out two outfits. They're on me."
Seeing Yu Meiton's refusal, Shi Xinyu hugged her and said, "Meiton, if it weren't for your insistence, I wouldn't have sold a third of my stocks. If I hadn't sold them, I would have lost over 200,000 yuan."
Unable to refuse any longer, Yu Meiton selected an outfit.
Shi Xinyu called out to Lu Jiaxin, "Jiaxin, come here. You have a good eye for fashion. Help Meiton pick out some clothes."
Lu Jiaxin chose five outfits for Yu Meiton: two sets of work attire, two skirts, and a casual set. After the selections were made, Lu Jiaxin said to Yu Meiton, "Three of these sets are from Xinyu, and the other two are from me, your boss, as a reward for being an excellent employee."
This time, Yu Meiton didn't refuse and happily accepted with a smile.
As they exited the clothing store, Zong Simeng and Shi Xinyu walked ahead, while Lu Jiaxin and Yu Meiton trailed slightly behind.
Lowering her voice, Lu Jiaxin said, "Meiton, Sister Simeng mentioned that she has a lot of clothes she hasn't worn and wants to give them to you, but she's afraid you might overthink it."
Zong Simeng and Yu Meiton had similar heights, but Zong Simeng was a little more curvaceous. However, she always bought figure-flattering clothes, so it was just a matter of getting them tailored.
Yu Meiton smiled and said, "How could I dislike them? I'd be grateful for anything she wants to give me."
"I knew you wouldn't mind," Lu Jiaxin said. After all, they were brand new clothes, and Yu Meiton had become so practical lately; this would save her some money on her wardrobe.
After their shopping spree, they headed for lunch at Lu Jiaxin's favorite restaurant, Fulinmen. As they were getting out of the car, Zong Simeng's phone rang, so she asked the other three to go ahead while she took the call.
Just as they were about to reach the entrance, Shi Xinyu realized her bracelet was missing. She remembered having it in the car, so she quickly ran back to look for it.
"Let's go up to the private room and wait for them," suggested Lu Jiaxin.
As the two of them walked through the lobby, someone called out to Yu Meiton.
A woman decked out in designer brands from head to toe, with meticulous makeup, approached them. She sized up Yu Meiton and scoffed, "Yu Meiton, look at how pathetic you've become, dressed in cheap knock-offs."
Scenes like this usually played out on TV—never had she thought she'd witness it in real life, with the once-wealthy young lady being mocked by a former friend.
Lu Jiaxin couldn't stand people like this, so she retorted, "What's it to you what Meiton wears? She's not eating your family's rice."
The woman coldly huffed, "Yu Meiton, you're only fit to hang out with this sort of person now."
Lu Jiaxin scoffed, "What's wrong with me? Meiton and I work hard for our money and support ourselves. That's a hundred times better than being a parasite like you."
Taken aback by her sharp tongue, Jian Weini replied disdainfully, "Parasite? So, this is how you poor folks console yourselves."
Yu Meiton burst out laughing and said, "Jian Weini, let me introduce you. This is my boss, who lives in a mansion worth tens of millions, drives a luxury car worth millions, and owns three companies. Her net worth is probably more than your entire family's, and you call her poor? What does that make you? A beggar."
Lu Jiaxin's attitude impressed her.
Just then, Zong Simeng finished her call and overheard the last part, "What's this about being poor and a beggar?"
Jian Weini didn't know Lu Jiaxin, but she recognized Zong Simeng, having met her several times at various banquets, "Mrs. Hu, nice to see you."
Though Zong Simeng didn't know the context, she was familiar with Jian Weini. She nodded politely and then explained to Lu Jiaxin, "Miss Jian's family is in the construction business and has worked with Wansheng Real Estate."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "I, a poor nobody, am not worthy of the esteemed Jian family. I'll call Azhan later and ask him to stop working with the Jians in the future."
Canceling their partnership was out of the question, as it would incur breach-of-contract penalties, but they didn't have to continue working together going forward.
Jian Weini's face fell, "Y-you're Lu Jiaxin?"
"Sister Simeng, let's go upstairs for lunch," Shi Xinyu interjected.
Jian Weini tried to follow them, but Miao Na stopped her. When Jian Weini had been mocking Lu Jiaxin earlier, Miao Na had wanted to intervene, but Lu Jiaxin had signaled for her not to.
Miao Na kindly advised, "Instead of wasting time here, why don't you go home and inform your parents so they can think of a solution sooner?"
What kind of solution? Their boss's requests would be granted by Mr. Nie without hesitation. Now, it was just a matter of switching construction partners, and he certainly wouldn't refuse.
