Chapter 485: Heartache, Ah
Chapter 485: Heartache, Ah
Before the massive fleet reached the port, a wisp of golden light shot from the warship, transforming into a beam that instantly struck Kuro.
The beam solidified into a towering figure. The man stood with hands in pockets, clad in a yellow dress uniform and hooded cloak, smirking at Kuro with a puckered mouth. "Oh~ Kuro, are you alright?"
"Yellow… Lucius Kro?!"
Dick’s eyes widened.
No mistake—this man was Lucius Kro, the Navy’s highest-ranked combat admiral!
Why would he come here?!
Lucius Kro, worth an admiral’s personal visit?!
"Gramps, I’ve got a big problem", Kuro muttered, rolling his white eye. "Injuries still fresh."
Lucius Kro glanced at him, nodding gently. "Seems you took quite a beating. Don’t worry, old man’s here to pick you up."
He turned to the stunned citizens, smirking. "Wow, quite the spectacle. Doesn’t fit Krayen Kingdom’s reputation. Scary stuff."
Kuro swept his gaze backward, speaking meaningfully. "Times change."
The kingdom was visibly transforming. Lingering served no purpose. The palace brimmed with treasures—enough for these people to buy whatever they desired.
Whether rebuilding the kingdom or purchasing weapons, the Conqueror’s Haki ensured no further issues.
With Kuro aboard, the warship’s mission ended. At Storbery’s command, the fleet set sail, leaving Krayen Island behind.
"Stay sharp! This is the Spiral Sea Area. Watch navigation routes—don’t get sucked into whirlpools", Storbery barked through the Transponder Snail, then eyed Kuro, the deck’s center of attention.
"Kuro-Kuro, are you okay?" Lida bounced beside him.
"If I were fine, why’d I call you here? Hurry—drain my physical strength to heal me. Pain’s killing me", Kuro grumbled, rolling his white eye. He sprawled onto a lounge chair brought by a Navy officer. "Klah, bring my cigars. This makeshift stuff tastes awful. And Lida, tell Ju Geng to make me food."
Kuro avoided speaking directly to Ju Geng now, relaying messages through Lida.
"Understood", Klah replied, adjusting his glasses and heading to the cabin.
As Kuro’s aide and steward, he always carried essentials—cigars included.
After Lida relayed the request, Ju Geng nodded and headed to the kitchen.
Lida pressed a hand on Kuro. "Energy Drain!"
Kuro felt his very essence slipping.
"Stop! I said physical strength only! I know you’ve gotten stronger lately", Kuro snapped.
The suction now drained more than strength—spirit and willpower drained too.
"Oh", Lida murmured, shifting tactics to absorb only physical strength.
Her Devil Fruit powers were evolving. Back at Marineford, hints of this ability emerged. A year later, her touch could even suppress Haki.
"Essence Feedback!"
After draining strength, Lida’s arm pulsed, channeling healing energy back into Kuro.
Kuro’s body shuddered. He clenched his palm, then relaxed into the lounge chair. "Ah, feels better."
Though exhausted, his wounds from Charlotte·Big Mom’s battle were gone—surface bruises vanished, broken ribs mended, internal injuries nearly healed.
Devil Fruit abilities—sometimes miracles indeed.
"Done?" Lucius Kro asked.
"Mostly." Kuro exhaled. "Never again. Next time I charge in, I’m an idiot."
"Kuro-Mr! How can you say that?!" Kas interjected, serious-faced. "You’re incredible! Facing Four Emperors alone—this courage is what we must learn! You once said humanity’s anthem is courage’s anthem. Today, you proved it!"
"Right! Such heroism inspires awe!" Donald added.
Kuro rolled his white eye, ignoring the fools.
Fighting blindly earned nothing but pain.
"Kuro, what did you do to Krayen Kingdom?" Lucius Kro asked, stroking his chin. "Old man saw their terrifying willpower earlier."
"Nothing. A foolish king traded his life for it."
Klah returned, handing Kuro a cigar. He lit it, exhaling smoke. "Tastes better now."
He’d rather not dwell on it. That fool’s deeds weren’t worth discussing. A sculpture was kindness enough. At least someone remembered—though the truth remained hazy, instinct whispered it was right.
"Wait, if you all came, who’s guarding the island?"
Kuro frowned. "No one at Shabondy?"
Pegasus Island was fine—Kas came en route, and Dougleg’s Navy presence was small. Most forces were at Pegasus, deterring pirates after Kuro’s clash with Charlotte·Big Mom and Lucius Kro’s patrol.
But Shabondy’s forces were here—leaving it nearly empty.
"Already handled", Klah replied. "Martial law was declared before departure. Wilbur Commander maintains order."
His tone carried a chilling edge. This martial law was harsher than before.
Klah dared not slack—failure meant execution.
"Me too! Me too!" Sazil chimed. "Underground order at Shabondy’s been purged!"
Kuro rolled his white eye.
If even that simple task failed, you’d deserve recycling.
"Alright, scatter! Why’re you all crowding me? Go do your jobs!" Kuro waved them off. "Let me rest. Still aching."
He hadn’t fully recovered. Though he retrieved his lion heads, half his reserves were spent.
Heartache, ah!
