Chapter 484: Yes, I Want to Report Headmaster Dumbledore!
Chapter 484: Yes, I Want to Report Headmaster Dumbledore!
Dumbledore was also watching Malfoy, his eyebrows slightly raised. He was well aware that if Lupin's identity as a werewolf were to be exposed, the Ministry of Magic would definitely use this incident to attack him.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Malfoy appeared quite smug, thoroughly enjoying the attention.
However, upon noticing the dejected look on Lupin's face, Malfoy hesitated for a moment.
"Mr. Malfoy! If you have something to say, it's best to say it quickly. We don't have all day to waste", Umbridge urged after waiting for a while without Malfoy speaking.
"I want to report—" Malfoy raised his voice, his gaze lingering on Lupin for a moment before shifting to Ivan. He finally spoke.
"I want to report Headmaster Dumbledore!"
For a moment, everyone in the room was stunned.
Harry, Ron, Lupin, and Snape all looked at him in shock, not expecting Malfoy to direct his accusations at Dumbledore. Was he planning to accuse him of hiring a werewolf to teach at Hogwarts?
Dumbledore, however, seemed thoughtful, looking at Malfoy with interest.
Umbridge was overjoyed and eagerly asked, "Mr. Malfoy, if you want to report the headmaster of Hogwarts, what is your reason? What is it? Embezzling funds provided by the school board and the Ministry of Magic? Or doing something extremely outrageous?"
Umbridge looked at Malfoy with great anticipation, even offering some examples and stating that the Ministry of Magic greatly appreciated his fearless spirit and would certainly handle the matter fairly!
However, Malfoy's next words froze the smile on Umbridge's face.
"I want to report him for favoritism towards the students of different houses.
To my knowledge, Hogwarts has never had a record of awarding three hundred points at once. He is clearly showing favoritism towards Gryffindor House! Otherwise, this year's House Cup should have gone to Slytherin!"
Malfoy's words were filled with deep resentment. Slytherin had won the House Cup for many consecutive years based on their merit, but ever since Ivan entered the school, the House Cup had gone to Gryffindor every year.
"Is that all you have to say?" Umbridge's eyes widened as she asked, emphasizing each word.
"Of course, what else did you think?" Malfoy replied casually.
"You've misunderstood me, Mr. Malfoy!" Before Umbridge could respond, Dumbledore stepped forward. He looked at Malfoy and replied solemnly.
"I believe it is necessary to explain here. The unprecedented three hundred points I awarded to Mr. Hals were not only for successfully capturing Peter Pettigrew, thereby clearing the name of the hero, Sirius Black, who resisted the Death Eaters.
I also received a letter from the Order of Merlin, confirming that Mr. Hals was about to receive the Order of Merlin, First Class. So, I combined the two achievements."
Dumbledore's gaze then shifted to Ivan.
Ivan nodded quickly. Yes, that was exactly what he had thought!
Lupin, who had been on edge, finally relaxed. He gave Malfoy a grateful look, though he didn't know why Malfoy had changed his mind, he was grateful that Malfoy had let him off the hook.
Snape's face turned as Black as a pot bottom, his lips trembling slightly, but he remained silent.
The most furious person was undoubtedly Umbridge. She had come here not to listen to Dumbledore's trivial justifications for favoring Gryffindor.
"Malfoy, I remember when Mr. Crabbe brought me here, he said you had something important to report to me!"
Umbridge deliberately emphasized the word "important" and then added threateningly, "You should understand that deceiving the Ministry of Magic is not a fun thing to do!"
"Do whatever you want. I'm just saying what I have to say. If it comes to it, you can tell my father yourself!" Malfoy sneered, not caring about Umbridge's threats.
"Ms. Umbridge! Please be a bit more lenient with a child", Dumbledore interjected.
"Malfoy has pointed out some of my mistakes, and although there are some misunderstandings, his attitude is commendable! I am willing to apologize for my negligence and promise to treat all the houses more fairly in the future!"
Dumbledore said apologetically, leading the applause. His gaze swept over the other professors, who immediately understood and joined in.
Similarly, Ivan, who had grasped Dumbledore's intentions, also clapped.
Harry and Ron were initially reluctant, but after Hermione whispered to them that Malfoy still had something on Professor Lupin, they reluctantly clapped a few times.
The classroom was soon filled with enthusiastic applause.
Malfoy was taken aback by this situation, his face turning red, and he seemed at a loss.
This was the first time he had been publicly praised by Dumbledore, let alone that his arch-rivals were clapping for him, which made Malfoy feel very uncomfortable.
Umbridge glared at Dumbledore, certain that there was something fishy going on. She even suspected that Dumbledore had somehow manipulated Malfoy right under her nose to make him change his story!
With this thought, Umbridge turned to Goyle and Crabbe, questioning them.
"What about you two? Do you have anything to say?"
Goyle and Crabbe hesitated and shook their heads.
In fact, they were completely confused. Malfoy had clearly told them he was going to expose Lupin as a werewolf, but somehow it had turned into an accusation of Dumbledore being unfair to the houses.
However, as good lackeys, even if their minds weren't the sharpest, they knew one thing for sure: don't go against their leader's wishes.
"Very well, very well! Let's go!" Umbridge scanned the classroom, then angrily turned and left with the Aurors.
She couldn't do anything to Dumbledore and certainly couldn't force the only son of the Malfoy family to speak. Staying any longer would only bring her more humiliation.
Malfoy didn't stick around either. He felt uncomfortable in the classroom, but before leaving, he suddenly turned to look at Ivan, mouthed a few words, and said in sign language:
"The favor you did for me last time is now repaid!"
Without waiting to see if Ivan understood, Malfoy walked out of the room, with Goyle and Crabbe hurrying after him.
Ivan shook his head, amused. He could understand Malfoy's sign language, but he wasn't sure if the stubborn little brat was just looking for an excuse to leave or if he was genuinely concerned about repaying the favor.
