Chapter 484: Flames and Earth
Chapter 484: Flames and Earth
After making his decision, Lu Chen didn't have much time left as the situation was urgent.
He returned to his cave abode and made some quick preparations before hurrying off to meet Huo Lin'er at her dwelling.
Among the spirit beasts in the cave, he brought along the Cloud-Treading Lynx and the Ghost-faced Vine. One had the ability to detect sinister traces, while the other possessed an acute sensitivity to spiritual herbs.
"Brother Huo, I'm sorry I'm late."
Huo Lin'er and two fellow disciples from Tianjian Sect had already been waiting in front of the cave.
"It's alright, we just got ready ourselves," Huo Lin'er said with a smile.
The two disciples, one male and one female, stood beside him. The male, Xu Yong, had white hair and exuded a chilling aura, while the female, Zhou Yuning, had an icy countenance and a stern demeanor.
"Let me introduce you to Senior Brother Xu and Senior Sister Zhou," Huo Lin'er said to Lu Chen.
"Both of them have late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivation and profound attainments in ice-based magic. They will be of great help in dealing with the abnormal Fire Spirit Herb."
"Nice to meet you, Senior Brother Xu and Senior Sister Zhou," Lu Chen greeted them.
"We've heard a lot about you, Junior Brother Lu," they acknowledged with nods.
"Let's not delay any further. We should depart immediately," Huo Lin'er said, taking out a leaf boat from his storage bag and tossing it to the ground.
The small boat rapidly expanded, reaching a length of several feet, and a thin layer of spiritual energy covered its surface.
"This is my usual means of transportation, the Qingling Boat, a fourth-grade magical artifact. It's perfect for long-distance travel," Huo Lin'er introduced the boat to Lu Chen and the others before leaping onto it.
Lu Chen and the three others followed suit, jumping onto the flying boat.
The boat rose into the air and picked up speed, with peaks and mountains flashing by underneath them.
After a dozen or so breaths, they arrived outside the sect.
"This time, you all will be going to the Fire Cloud Cave, my former dwelling place, to help my clan resolve the issue with the spiritual herb mutation. I am truly grateful," Huo Lin'er said sincerely.
"When we reach our destination, we will be relying on your expertise with spiritual herbs," he added.
"Brother Huo, you flatter us. We're just here to lend a hand. The main task still depends on Junior Brother Lu's skills with spiritual herbs," Xu Yong said with a smile, while Zhou Yuning nodded in agreement.
"You two are too humble. Your ice magic will be the key to our success," Lu Chen said.
"Also, Brother Huo, when we get to the Fire Cloud Cave, you must show us some good hospitality as the local," Lu Chen said with a light laugh.
"Of course, the Fire Cloud Cave has some unique local products. I'll let you all try them when we arrive," Huo Lin'er laughed heartily, feeling much better now that his clan's problem would soon be resolved.
The boat weaved swiftly through the clouds, and after a while of casual conversation, the four fell silent. Xu Yong closed his eyes to rest, Zhou Yuning began to meditate and cultivate, while Huo Lin'er piloted the boat, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
Lu Chen stood at the back of the boat, his hands hidden in his sleeves, gently stroking a talisman given to him by Qingxu Zhenren.
The talisman was called the Qianren Fu, a fifth-grade protective talisman that could even withstand attacks from Core Formation cultivators for a significant amount of time.
Their journey proceeded without incident, and half a day later, the boat arrived amidst a range of majestic mountains.
After twisting and turning through the mountains, they entered a towering mountain of fiery red that soared thousands of feet high.
The upper half of the mountain was covered in thick, dark red volcanic ash, with occasional streams of crimson lava flowing by.
The boat entered a deep cave, its depths shrouded in darkness.
"This is the Fire Cloud Cave. Many years ago, it was a secret realm of our sect. After most of its resources were depleted, it was bestowed upon my clan. We were able to make use of the remaining treasures left behind," Huo Lin'er explained.
"Greetings, Uncle Huo Jiu," Huo Lin'er said.
"This is one of my elders, Huo Jiu. He is the current clan leader of the Huo Yun Cave," she introduced.
"These are my fellow disciples from the sect: Xu Yong and Zhou Yuning."
"And this is Lu Xuan, the most skilled spiritual herbologist in the Tianjian Sect. He was the one who discovered the abnormal Fire Spirit Herb and found a solution to the problem," she continued, emphasizing Lu Xuan's crucial role in the matter.
Huo Lin'er took the time to introduce everyone, making sure to highlight Lu Xuan's significance in addressing the issue with the spirit herb.
"It's nice to meet you, Fellow Daoist Lu. We're counting on your help with this matter," Huo Jiu said, grasping Lu Xuan's hands tightly with a fervent smile.
Initially, when he saw that Lu Xuan had the lowest cultivation level among the group, he didn't pay much attention. But upon hearing Huo Lin'er's words, his attitude warmed considerably, and he even conveyed his enthusiasm through the firm handshake.
"You're too kind, Clan Leader Huo. It's our duty to help," Lu Xuan replied with a smile, gently trying to free his hands from the enthusiastic grip.
"Please come in, everyone. I've already prepared a feast in my residence. Though we don't have the luxuries of the Tianjian Sect here, we have some unique local products to offer. Please forgive our humble accommodations," Huo Jiu said, leading the group into his abode.
The underground world was filled with crimson rocks, and the air was heavy with a sulfurous scent. If one listened closely, they could hear the flowing lava hidden behind the stone walls.
Huo Lin'er's clan resided in this environment, and along the way, they passed simple houses constructed from the red giant stones. Curious gazes, both subtle and overt, peered out from within.
"Clan Leader Huo Jiu, the abnormal spirit herb needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Why don't you take us to the spirit field first so we can understand the situation better?" Lu Xuan suggested. "We can always feast later, once the issue is resolved."
"Wouldn't that be impolite?" Huo Jiu turned to Huo Lin'er, unsure. As the clan leader of Huo Yun Cave and Huo Lin'er's elder, he still deferred to her judgment on most matters.
"Let's do as Junior Brother Lu suggests," Huo Lin'er agreed readily, and Xu Yong and the others naturally had no objections.
"Then please follow me, everyone," Huo Jiu said, leading the way through the fiery red caverns.
The feast he had prepared was simply his way of expressing his hospitality as a local, but his true urgency lay in resolving the issue with the spirit herb.
After winding their way through the caverns for quite some time, they arrived at a spirit field.
It was the soil in the field that first caught Lu Xuan's attention.
The soil was a pale red, with tendrils of black smoke curling upward, and even from a distance, one could sense the scorching heat emanating from it.
"This is a special type of soil found in Huo Yun Cave, called 'Flaming Earth.' It's rich in fire-attributed spiritual energy and has a gentle, non-harmful nature. It's quite rare to find something like this elsewhere in the cultivation world," Huo Jiu explained, noticing Lu Xuan's interest in the unusual soil.
"Indeed, the world is full of wonders," Lu Xuan remarked, feeling a sense of awe.
