Chapter 483: Malfoy, You Ungrateful Bastard!
Chapter 483: Malfoy, You Ungrateful Bastard!
"Lupin is done for, Potter! You can't stop me!"
"I will expose him! A dangerous werewolf teaching openly at Hogwarts, it's like he's gambling with our lives!"
In the empty classroom, Malfoy was ranting, his head held high as he looked down on Harry and Ron with disdain.
"Professor Lupin is the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher I've ever seen. He's not dangerous at all. He's been at Hogwarts for so long and has never hurt anyone!"
Harry angrily retorted. Seeing that Malfoy merely sneered and showed no reaction, he pulled out his wand, ready to teach the other a lesson.
"Think you can duel me, Potter?" Malfoy sneered, drawing his wand as well, and his cronies, including Goyle, did the same.
For a moment, both sides stood facing each other, the tension palpable.
Just as they were about to start, the classroom door opened.
Both Harry and Malfoy's faces lit up with surprise, turning to see who had entered. But when they saw who it was, Malfoy's expression darkened.
"Ivan, you came just in time. Malfoy is planning to tell the Ministry of Magic about Professor Lupin!" Harry quickly said.
"I know, Hermione already told me on the way!" Ivan nodded and then turned his gaze to Malfoy.
"Hals! What do you think you're doing? I've already sent Crabbe to fetch the professor and the Aurors. They'll be here any minute!" Malfoy said nervously, taking a few steps back, his voice tinged with urgency.
Ivan noticed that Crabbe, who usually followed Malfoy, was indeed not there, making the situation more complicated.
To be fair, aside from his identity as a werewolf, Lupin had been a very competent teacher this year, far surpassing the teaching skills of Quirrell and Lockhart.
Ivan didn't want Lupin to be forced back into a life of wandering and homelessness just because his identity was exposed.
However, looking at the defiant Malfoy, who was shouting about reporting Lupin, Ivan found himself in a difficult position.
The simplest solution would be to use a Memory Charm, but Harry and the others were still there, and Crabbe had already gone to fetch the professor. Even if he erased Malfoy's memory, it wouldn't help.
With a sigh, Ivan tried to reason with him.
"Malfoy, Professor Lupin is no threat to us! He takes the Wolfsbane Potion regularly every month and hides in the Shrieking Shack during his transformations to avoid hurting anyone.
And not all werewolf wizards are evil. Most of them are victims, turned into werewolves because they were attacked by one."
Malfoy hesitated at Ivan's words but then raised his voice. "What does that have to do with me? Who knows if he's just pretending!"
"Malfoy, you ungrateful bastard! If it weren't for Ivan saving you last time, you would have been killed by Buckbeak! And Professor Lupin has never singled you out in class!" Ron shouted angrily.
Malfoy's face turned red as he loudly defended himself, claiming that his magnanimity in forgiving Hagrid and his ridiculous bird had already repaid any debt.
And he was only exposing Lupin to ensure everyone's safety. What if Lupin forgot to take his potion one day and went on a rampage at school?
Harry was furious and wanted to rush over to punch Malfoy, but Ivan stopped him. He looked at Malfoy and said helplessly,
"Malfoy, after a year of Defense Against the Dark Arts, you should know what kind of person Professor Lupin is! Or do you prefer the next Lockhart or Quirrell to teach you?"
A hint of hesitation appeared on Malfoy's face. He hadn't really planned to report Lupin in the first place.
After all, this year's Defense Against the Dark Arts class had been quite interesting, but seeing Ivan steal the spotlight today had left him feeling resentful.
Why should Ivan be able to stand out by exposing the professor's identity, while he had to keep this secret hidden?
That wasn't fair!
Ivan, facing the stubborn Malfoy, was at a loss. He could only lament that Voldemort's curse was truly formidable, and it seemed that the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor would be replaced every year.
Harry and Ron hadn't given up either. They tried to use force to change Malfoy's mind, but Malfoy remained defiant, even deliberately shouting that the Ministry of Magic would arrive soon.
"Mr. Malfoy, I hear you have something to tell me?"
As the group was arguing, the classroom door opened again, and a sweet, high-pitched voice echoed through the room.
Without even seeing the person, Ivan knew it was Umbridge.
Sure enough, a pair of pointy shoes stepped into the doorway, followed by a middle-aged witch in a pink cardigan, walking with an affected air.
Behind her were some Aurors and a few school professors, including Malfoy's missing lackey, Crabbe.
Upon seeing Ivan and the others confronting Malfoy in the classroom, Umbridge's face lit up with excitement.
When she had received Crabbe's notification that Malfoy had something important to report, Umbridge had been somewhat irritated.
What could a third-year student have that was so important? But now, seeing the confrontation in the classroom, she became interested. Perhaps they really did know something significant.
If this led to finding a way to catch Dumbledore, and help the Ministry of Magic regain the upper hand, her position might even be elevated.
Umbridge glanced at the professors standing beside her, noting their changed expressions, which only confirmed her suspicions.
"Mr. Malfoy, you can speak now. Don't worry about anyone harming you; the Ministry of Magic will protect you!" Umbridge said in a loud voice.
Everyone's attention immediately focused on Malfoy.
Lupin, who had come with the group, furrowed his brow. He knew that the only thing Malfoy could report to the Ministry of Magic at this moment was his own werewolf identity. He opened his mouth to say something in his defense but then stopped, a bitter smile on his face.
Malfoy wasn't wrong to expose his true identity. A werewolf hiding his identity and teaching at Hogwarts was indeed a threat to the students and their parents.
Snape, standing nearby, couldn't hide his joy, watching Lupin with malicious satisfaction. He had waited an entire year, and now Lupin would finally be gone!
