Chapter 482: The Seven Wolves of Jiangbei
Chapter 482: The Seven Wolves of Jiangbei
Sun Xingyu's expression remained calm as she gently kneaded Tie Kaicheng's feet, her soft voice carrying a hint of gratitude. "Thank you, Chief."
"I heard that the four elders of the Demon Sect can all wield a knife with such skill that they can split a person in two?" Tie Kaicheng asked.
"But that's not the Divine Knife Slash." Sun Xingyu said, "The Divine Knife Slash is a closely guarded secret of the Demon Sect. Only the Sect Leader can learn it. The knife techniques of the four elders are simplified versions taught to them by the Sect Leader."
"Even so, their skill is enough to strike fear into the hearts of the jianghu. Many have perished under their blades." Tie Kaicheng added.
Sun Xingyu glanced at him cautiously. "But they have never wantonly killed innocent and unarmed commoners."
Those who enter the jianghu are no longer innocent. Tie Kaicheng had no interest in seeking justice for strangers from the jianghu.
"That's why he was able to leave unscathed." Tie Kaicheng said nonchalantly.
A spark flashed in Sun Xingyu's eyes as she understood Tie Kaicheng's meaning. Relieved, her entire body relaxed further, and she placed Tie Kaicheng's right foot in her soft lap, gently caressing it.
Tie Kaicheng sighed in contentment, truly enjoying the comfort.
Seeing Tie Kaicheng relax, Sun Xingyu's curiosity got the better of her, and she asked, "Is Xie Xiaofeng really picking night soil?"
Sun Xingyu had never met Xie Xiaofeng. By the time she was old enough to understand, Xie Xiaofeng had already mysteriously disappeared. Yet, like Yan Shi, the name of the Third Young Master of the Xie family had not faded with time. Instead, it had become even more renowned due to the recent crop of lackluster swordsmen.
People often compared these newly famous swordsmen to Xie Xiaofeng, and the results were always unfavorable.
More and more people were aware that Xie Xiaofeng was still alive, and everyone wanted to see who could dethrone him from his lofty pedestal.
Sun Xingyu was also curious, but she never imagined that such a person would resort to scooping night soil—the lowest of the low occupations. If there had been any other option, he wouldn't have taken up this job.
"Really."
"Why would he do that?"
"Because he's got issues."
"What kind of issues?"
"He's full of affectation."
Sun Xingyu blinked. "Is being full of affectation an illness?"
"Isn't it?" Tie Kaicheng asked.
Sun Xingyu thought about it and nodded. "Maybe a little, but why is Xie Xiaofeng so full of affectation?"
Tie Kaicheng looked at Sun Xingyu as if she were an idiot.
Sun Xingyu suddenly felt a bit foolish herself. How could an affected person recognize their own affectation, let alone understand its cause? But she still couldn't wrap her head around it. Xie Xiaofeng had achieved fame at a young age, possessed unparalleled talent, and was acknowledged as the number one swordsman in the world while still in his youth. Such a person could have anything they desired, and their every whim was indulged.
Why would such a person be affected?
Tie Kaicheng didn't seem inclined to explain, and Sun Xingyu didn't press the matter further. Soon, the carriage approached Dongcheng, and they heard voices shouting in the mountainside forest alongside the road.
"This is fucking ridiculous!"
"They won't let it go!"
"We just played with a few women in Dongcheng and killed a few bastards. That big shot actually sent people to chase after us!"
"Let's fight them!"
"Bullshit! That guy has tough martial arts skills. Even Lao Wu's knife couldn't cut him. How are we supposed to fight?"
"Let's run! Once we get back to Jiangbei, we'll be on our own turf!"
"Do you see any horses?"
"Kill and rob!"
The shouting stopped, followed by the sound of six or seven people rushing out of the forest, their clothes fluttering in the wind as they charged straight towards the carriage.
"The chief of the Hongqi Escort Agency is here! Who dares to be so audacious?" Rong Zhengjie shouted, his voice stern and commanding as he confronted the leader of the group.
"Who cares who you are! We're out for blood!"
"Make way, or the Jiangbei Seven Wolves will send you to your graves!"
Rong Zhengjie recognized the faces and builds of the men before him.
The Jiangbei Seven Wolves—Sky Wolf, Old Wolf, Crippled Wolf, Flying Wolf, Wind Wolf, Black Wolf, and Fierce Wolf—each had a notorious reputation in the outlaw world. Though they had only emerged in recent years, they had quickly made a name for themselves.
The Hongqi Escort Agency had never crossed paths with them, but they had heard tales from fellow escorts about how several escort agencies had fallen victim to these seven ruthless men who cared nothing for rules.
Rong Zhengjie wondered who these men had encountered that had them fleeing in such a panic. However, he was well aware of his own capabilities. He might be able to handle one or two of them, but faced with seven, his only option was to flee. Yet, there they were, standing before him.
Had the Seven Wolves joined forces?
Rong Zhengjie's pupils contracted as he quickly called for backup. "Chief, it's the Jiangbei Seven Wolves! They're vicious and merciless!"
Tie Kaicheng pulled back the carriage curtain and saw two men surrounding Rong Zhengjie, their swords forcing him to retreat step by step as he struggled to defend himself.
Meanwhile, the other five had reached the carriage. The two in front had already climbed aboard and were now just a few feet from Tie Kaicheng and Sun Xingyu. Upon seeing them, the Wolves' faces, each bearing a notorious moniker, lit up with lewd grins, their pursuit momentarily forgotten.
"No need to unhitch the horses. We'll take the carriage as it is, along with the beauty inside..."
Before he could finish his sentence, a dazzling light flashed before his eyes, and he heard a crisp, clear sound. Then everything went dark.
"Choke—"
The sound of a sword rang out, and Crippled Wolf, Flying Wolf, and Fierce Wolf watched in shock as Wind Wolf and Black Wolf, renowned for their exceptional light work, suddenly stumbled and fell off the carriage, one to the left and the other to the right.
The two men clutched their throats, their eyes wide with disbelief as they twitched and convulsed slightly before going still.
The remaining Wolves were veterans of the jianghu and immediately spotted the fatal wounds—a precise strike to the throat.
"Impressive sword skills!"
The three Wolves froze in their tracks, their eyes fixed on Tie Kaicheng, who had sheathed his sword.
"Boss, they've been stabbed!"
"Old Five and Old Six looked away for a second, and someone pressed a blade to their necks!"
Sky Wolf and Crippled Wolf, who had been besieging Rong Zhengjie, turned around and saw Tie Kaicheng sheathing his sword. They assumed that their companions had been careless and let their guard down.
Under normal circumstances, they might have sought revenge for their brothers, not knowing the extent of Tie Kaicheng's skills. But at that moment, they had no such intentions. All they wanted was to get away.
"The situation is dire. Let's head east!"
"Hongqi Escort Agency, huh? We'll remember this!"
Crippled Wolf and the others retreated. Sky Wolf and Old Wolf slashed at Rong Zhengjie with their swords, forcing him back, and the five men regrouped. They left a threatening message before continuing their escape to the east.
Just then, heavy footsteps sounded from the mountain forest they had just passed through.
