Chapter 481: Windchant Glasses (First Update)
Chapter 481: Windchant Glasses (First Update)
Two hours later,
Jerry, with the key he had received from the female staff member, followed the map's directions and arrived at a row of two-story villas built along the small river in the city, about a kilometer away from the Fairy Tail Guild.
The house he had bought was directly opposite a stone bridge, and about five hundred meters from the bridge stood the famous Cathedral of Cardia in the city.
After passing the Cathedral of Cardia and walking another four hundred meters, he would reach the location of the Fairy Tail Guild, where he had just joined today.
So, the place where he now lived was less than a kilometer from the Fairy Tail Guild.
Opening the door and stepping inside, he quickly surveyed the contents of the house. The basic furniture was all there—fireplace, stove, fish tank, sofa, and more—but everything was covered in a thick layer of dust.
"Clean it up!"
First, he used Magic to thoroughly clean the entire house. Then, he began to extensively modify it.
He expanded the Spatial area, added a garden, a pond, a lawn, a Magic practice area, and bookshelves. In no time, the house was transformed into a secluded paradise with a beautiful environment and complete facilities.
After everything was done, he placed the hundreds of magic books he had bought from over a dozen Magic shops in the city on the bookshelves. He also set up a variety of Magic items on the nearby tables.
The magic books available in Magic shops were not particularly advanced, but they covered the most basic principles of various types of Magic in this world, making them very suitable for his current studies.
For example, the common Magic for changing attire—following the instructions in these books, the best he could achieve would be transforming a dress into a thick coat. If he were to push further, he might be able to conjure a sword or a knife, which would be quite impressive.
As for the pile of Magic items, most of them were not particularly useful to him. They could only serve as aids for his research, helping him better understand the composition of Magic in this world.
However, there were a few items that stood out.
The most notable among them was a Magic item called the "Windchant Glasses."
Its function was to help the user quickly read through the contents of a book. A book that would normally take several days to read could be finished in less than a minute with the Windchant Glasses.
However, finishing a book did not mean understanding it. The glasses only forced the content of the book into your brain; whether you could understand it depended on your own capabilities.
Therefore, it was often used for reading novels or literary works.
Using it to read overly complex materials, such as magic books, could potentially cause severe brain damage.
But this was not a concern for Jerry. He could use the Merlin Array and other Magic to enhance his comprehension and significantly increase his brain's processing speed.
With the Windchant Glasses, he could quickly read through even magic books. While he wouldn't understand everything immediately, at least his brain wouldn't be affected negatively.
With everything in place, Jerry put on the Windchant Glasses, cleared his mind of all distractions, and resumed his Magic research and studies.
The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains into the hall, Jerry slowly removed the Windchant Glasses and closed his eyes.
Over the course of the night, he had read through all the Magic knowledge and historical, mission, and event records described in the hundreds of magic books.
With the sudden influx of knowledge, even with his Superman Mode active, Jerry needed a moment to catch his breath.
"I should head to the guild and ask the Master about Magic!"
A vast amount of Magic knowledge flooded his mind; he had digested and understood some of it, but much of it remained incomprehensible due to his lack of relevant knowledge.
So, he decided to head to the guild to seek guidance from Master Makarov, who had promised to help him learn Magic yesterday.
Jerry valued fair transactions. Since he had agreed to become a staff member of the Fairy Tail Guild, helping the mages with their aftermath and ensuring the guild's finances ran smoothly, it was only right that the Master didn't sit idle.
This way, his efforts would be duly recognized.
Although, the job was very simple for him.
"Natsu, Happy?"
Stepping out of his house and just reaching the stone bridge, Jerry saw Natsu and Happy, the cat-human duo, walking towards him with a mission sheet in hand.
Natsu and Happy, spotting Jerry, waved excitedly and rushed over.
"Good morning, Jerry!"
"Good morning, what are you two up to?"
Jerry's face showed a puzzled expression.
Clearly, from the surprised looks on Natsu and Happy's faces, they weren't there to find him.
Moreover, he hadn't returned to the guild after leaving yesterday, so Natsu and Happy wouldn't know about his new house or its address.
"We're looking for Lucy to do a mission. I found a task with a 200,000 J reward. Once we complete it, I'll have enough money to treat you to a meal!"
Natsu handed the paper with the mission details to Jerry.
Jerry took it and glanced over it. It was a task to steal a book from the Duke's Manor.
"Has Lucy found a place to stay?"
"Yeah, I heard from Mira that she rented a house yesterday, right over there!"
Natsu pointed to a slightly old two-story building on the other side of the stone bridge, just one house away from Jerry's.
"It's pretty close!"
Jerry raised an eyebrow.
After modifying his house yesterday, he had spent the whole time in his room reading magic books and hadn't noticed that Lucy had rented a place so near.
"Hey, Jerry, want to join us? This mission has a 200,000 J reward, and all we have to do is steal a book. It's very simple!"
Perhaps feeling that Jerry, being new to the guild, didn't have many offensive Magic skills, Natsu extended the invitation to team up.
Jerry just smiled and handed the mission sheet back to Natsu.
"No thanks, I'm not planning to do missions right now. I need some time to adapt. You and Lucy, good luck!"
He wasn't short on money, and doing missions would just be a waste of time.
Waving goodbye to Natsu and Happy, Jerry crossed the Cathedral of Cardia and soon arrived at the guild.
It was still early, so the guild wasn't very crowded. Only a few people were there: Master Makarov was sitting cross-legged on the bar, Mira was serving drinks to a few people, and Gray, the nearly-naked man with Magic power second only to Natsu, was also present.
"Good morning, Jerry. Did you find a house yesterday?"
Mira's face lit up with a gentle smile as soon as she saw Jerry.
Yesterday, before leaving, Jerry had asked her where he could buy a house in the city.
