Chapter 481: Ash and the King of Absences, The Awakening of Groudon and Kyogre
Chapter 481: Ash and the King of Absences, The Awakening of Groudon and Kyogre
"Chuu?"
Chesto Chestnut looked surprised at the unfamiliar Pokemon in front of him.
Hearing Naoki's words, Houndour looked up at him and enthusiastically wagged its tail, letting out happy puffs of air.
"Houndour is cute too!" Kishu whispered, "But I've heard that Houndour are said to be the reincarnated souls of deceased Pokemon. Has a Pokemon passed away here before?"
Naoki nodded, "A mountain wildfire a couple of years ago took the lives of many Pokemon. This place is a cemetery I built for them, and the victims of the wildfire are buried here."
As he spoke, Naoki crouched down and waved at the Houndour.
Seeing this, Houndour immediately ran over excitedly, wagging its tail.
Kishu also crouched down beside it.
Houndour looked at Naoki and then at her, wagging its tail before rubbing its body affectionately against Kishu and then lowering itself, as if inviting them to play together.
After playing with Houndour for a while and resolving the haunting incident, Naoki prepared to head back, noticing that Kishu was shivering from the cold.
It seemed like Kishu was susceptible to the cold.
Realizing this, Naoki stood up and said to the surrounding Pokemon:
"Alright, Houndour doesn't mean any harm. It probably just wants to play with all of you."
"Chuu..."
Chesto Chestnut and the other Pokemon finally realized what was going on.
Although Houndour had scared them during this period, it seemed that it had never harmed them.
If that was the case, then Houndour could stay here from now on!
Chesto Chestnut and Giant Forge happily made the decision.
"Everyone, quickly return! It's very cold, and staying outside for too long can easily make you sick," Naoki laughed.
The surrounding Pokemon responded in unison and bid farewell to the two before returning to their homes.
Naoki and Wingull also headed back toward the ranch.
However, along the way, Wingull suddenly stopped as if it had discovered something. It turned its head and looked back.
"Hmm? What's wrong, Wingull?"
Naoki turned and followed Wingull's gaze. He saw that the Houndour from earlier was quietly following them.
Realizing it had been spotted, Houndour immediately buried its upper body in the snow, wagging its tail.
"It seems like it really wants to play with us!" Kishu said.
Naoki also noticed this and waved at Houndour, calling out, "Houndour, come here!"
"Wan!"
Hearing Naoki's voice, Houndour immediately ran over and circled the two of them.
Looking at the pitiful Houndour and remembering the mountain wildfire Naoki had mentioned earlier, Kishu made a decision.
"Naoki, let's adopt it!" she said.
Naoki had the same idea, as they needed a canine Pokemon to guard the ranch.
Especially a Pokemon like Houndour, which was known for its unwavering loyalty to its trainers among the many dog-like Pokemon.
The only odd thing was its evolution—from Houndour to Houndoom. The name change was a bit strange.
But it was perfect, as it could help with herding and protecting the Wooloo on the ranch.
With this in mind, Naoki nodded and crouched down to ask Houndour, "Houndour, would you like to live with us?"
"Wan?" Houndour stopped running and looked up at him.
"It means going to live where we are. Besides us, there are many other Pokemon there who will become your friends, so you won't feel lonely anymore," Naoki explained with a smile.
Houndour understood and eagerly nodded its head, letting out an excited bark.
"Then, please take care of us from now on!"
"Wan!"
The two decided to adopt Houndour and brought it back to the ranch.
The other Pokemon, like Mud-Slap, were very curious about this new addition to the ranch and gathered around to get a better look.
Houndour gave off a silly and not-so-bright impression. It would only follow Naoki and Kishu around, like a little tail.
Naoki understood that Houndour had come to see him and Kishu as its owners.
This species of Pokemon was naturally affectionate toward humans, especially since they had provided it with food and water.
"So pure!"
Naoki couldn't help but exclaim inwardly.
Houndour's behavior was especially noticeable when Kishu prepared to leave the ranch and return to Naranja City.
It anxiously barked, clearly not wanting her to leave.
Seeing this, Kishu gently reassured it, "Don't worry, I'm just going back to Naranja City to take care of some human affairs. I'll be back to see you soon."
Naoki nodded in agreement, "That's right, don't worry!"
Although the Pademia League had granted a vacation to Gym Leaders, Kishu also had her family in Naranja City, and with the New Year approaching, she wanted to visit her parents.
And with that, Salamence flapped its wings and carried Kishu away from the ranch. Naoki watched their figures disappear into the distance before heading home with the Houndour. As he stepped inside, he saw his sister, Aiguansi, giggling behind her hand, clearly amused by the earlier scene. "Ai Yi~" Naoki: "..." He knew exactly what was on his sister's mind without needing to ask. Putting on a serious expression, he tried to hide his embarrassment.
Just then, his Pokegear rang. Seeing that it was Professor Oak calling, Naoki answered the call. The next second, Ash Ketchum's face appeared on the screen. "Long time no see, Naoki!" Ash's excited voice rang out. "Since I didn't have your number, I asked Professor Oak to help me contact you!" As he spoke, the camera shifted, and Professor Oak, standing beside Ash, also came into view. Wearing his signature lab coat, Professor Oak waved at Naoki and greeted him with a smile. "Good afternoon, Naoki," he said. "Good afternoon, Professor Oak," Naoki replied, mirroring the older man's smile. "What brings you to call, Ash?"
"Well," Ash said, as the camera focused back on him, "I wanted to give you an update on King of Absences' situation." "Oh? So, Overactive Monkey has evolved into King of Absences?" Naoki asked, surprised. "Yes!" Ash nodded. "And thanks to King of Absences, I became the runner-up in the Hoenn League! I was so close to becoming the champion; it's a real shame..." At the mention of 'runner-up,' Naoki's eyebrows furrowed.
Could it be that Ash's journey had been altered?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Ash turned the camera towards King of Absences. On the screen, Naoki saw a unique King of Absences lazily lounging on the floor of Professor Oak's lab. Yawning, the King of Absences seemed to sense something and lifted its eyelid to glance in the direction of the Rotom Phone. "Long time no see, King of Absences," Naoki greeted the Pokemon through the screen.
King of Absences lazily looked in his direction and yawned again, seemingly responding in its own peculiar way. Naoki: "..." Indeed, this was very much in character for King of Absences. Witnessing this, Ash couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed. "When King of Absences is truly energized, it's a whole different story!" he assured Naoki. Naoki: "......I know." After all, with its impressive base Attack stat of 160 and a base Speed of 100, King of Absences was no joke. It was truly a powerhouse in both Attack and Speed.
It was just a shame that its Laziness Ability held it back. If it had the Huge Power Ability instead, King of Absences' standing and win rate in Trainer battles would likely soar to the top. Naoki nodded, satisfied that Ash had trained King of Absences so well. "Seeing that King of Absences is doing well with you puts my mind at ease," he said. "If I recall correctly, you're thirteen this year, right, Ash?" Ash eagerly nodded. "That's right! I've been on my journey for three years now!" Naoki praised him, "Becoming the runner-up in the Hoenn League at the age of thirteen is quite an impressive feat!"
However, Ash waved off the compliment, scratching his head. "It wasn't just me; it was also thanks to Pikachu and the others!" Naoki smiled gently. "So, with your journey in Hoenn coming to an end, where do you plan to go next year? Are you coming to the Paradius region?" "No, Naoki, you're a very strong Champion, and I'm not ready to challenge you yet. But I'll continue on my journey, and when I become a Pokemon Master, I'll come to Paradius and challenge you officially!" Determination burned in Ash's eyes.
If that's the case, then Ash's rival, Paul, and the legendary Pokemon catcher, Cyrus, will also be making an appearance in the Sinnoh region.
"Then you'd better do your best!"
"Yeah, I will!"
After hanging up the call, out of curiosity about this year's Veil Conference, Naoki immediately used his Rotom Phone to search for a broadcast of the tournament on the internet.
Lo and behold, he managed to find one.
Naoki clicked on the link and projected it onto the television, beginning to watch the matches one by one.
If he remembered correctly, Ash's original record was reaching the Top 8.
At first, Ash's matches went smoothly, although there were some minor crises along the way, but overall, he progressed without much trouble.
Soon, the tournament reached the quarterfinals.
Ash's opponent for this round was the popular Trainer, Tetsuya.
Naoki recalled this Tetsuya; he was the champion of this year's Veil Conference, and Ash had lost to him.
But this time, Ash emerged victorious?!
Intrigued, Naoki continued to watch the match.
Ash's team consisted of Mamoswine, Crawdaunt, Staraptor, Torterra, Garchomp, and Pikachu.
Tetsuya's team, on the other hand, was comprised of Infernape, Honchkrow, Machamp, Bronzong, Persian, and Metagross.
The battle was intense, with both Trainers fighting until the very end. Ash was left with a weakened Torterra and Pikachu, while Tetsuya still had a Persian with its item, Sitrus Berry.
That Persian was incredibly strong, and it defeated Pikachu with Fury Swipes. As a result, Ash had no choice but to send out his weakened Torterra.
Perhaps it was Ash's determination and unwavering spirit that inspired Torterra, or perhaps it didn't want to lose this battle.
During the match, Torterra stood tall and unleashed its full power. After a fierce battle, it ultimately defeated Persian with Hyper Beam, securing Ash's place in the Top 4.
In the semifinals, Ash narrowly won again, but in the finals, he lost to a Trainer with a Gengar.
Looking at the screen where Pikachu lay defeated, Naoki couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret:
"Tsk, what a shame. Otherwise, Ash would have been the champion this year."
However, the runner-up position was still an impressive achievement. If Ash were to participate in the upcoming Lilac Conference in the Sinnoh region with the same team, he might achieve even better results.
Yet, Ash still maintained his habit of restarting his Pokemon collection and training from scratch whenever he arrived in a new region...
Additionally, the Lilac Conference was known for producing dark horses. With Ash's Pokemon having been trained for less than a year, they stood no chance against Cyrus, the legendary Pokemon catcher.
If it were him, he would probably bring out his strongest Pokemon for the battle.
Pikachu, Charizard, Infernape...
It was just a pity that this timeline hadn't reached the point where Greninja and Infernape would join Ash's team.
However, perhaps this was truly Ash's style.
Year 200 of the League, November 20th, Winter.
During the cold winter months, all was quiet and still.
Wild Pokemon hibernated, homebodies stayed indoors, and aside from some Ice-type Pokemon, most other Pokemon would not be active outdoors.
Due to the scarcity of food in winter, they had to minimize their energy expenditure and rely on the energy stored in their bodies to survive the harsh season.
And it was on such a day...
The ancient Pokemon, Groudon and Kyogre, who had been slumbering within the World Tree, awakened.
Furthermore, due to the abundance of natural energy, these two ancient Pokemon reverted to their original forms, assuming their Primal Reversion states.
Sensing the peak power within their bodies, Groudon and Kyogre exuded overwhelming confidence. One emerged from the volcano, and the other rose from the ocean's depths, roaring at the sky as if to challenge each other to a fierce battle.
Thus, Groudon left its volcanic habitat, and Kyogre, sensing Groudon's presence, swiftly moved toward their predetermined "meeting" spot.
However, upon arriving, they saw Naoki waiting there with his team of powerful Pokemon: Rayquaza, Mewtwo, Giratina, Ho-Oh, Dialga, Palkia, and others.
Groudon: !!!
Kyogre: !!!
Looking at the two incompatible arch-rivals below, Naoki felt his fist clench with anticipation.
"You want to fight, don't you?" Naoki asked, his lips curling into a cruel smile.
Groudon and Kyogre instinctively took a step back upon sensing the formidable auras behind him.
The attention of the Dragonite on Dragonite Island was drawn to this scene, and they gathered around, curious onlookers in this drama.
"Do you remember what I said before? If you fight, you will be expelled. It seems you didn't take my words to heart," Naoki said, his smile not reaching his eyes.
