Chapter 480: New Werewolf
Chapter 480: New Werewolf
Hermione and Liam immediately ran into the Healing Room when they heard the groaning coming from inside. The situation was better than they had expected, with Lupin regaining consciousness half an hour earlier than anticipated. Of course, such an error in judgment was understandable in the absence of any prior cases.
Liam cast a few spells to check Lupin’s body and, confirming that everything was in order, he simply stood there waiting, as his assessment suggested that Lupin would wake up soon.
Sure enough, less than a minute later, Lupin’s eyelids began to flutter rapidly, and his eyes opened.
Seeing him awake, Liam immediately asked with concern, "Professor, how are you feeling?"
“Ugh—feeling a bit dizzy, but I think I’ll be fine soon.” Lupin, lying on the operating table, blinked a few times. The white haze in front of his eyes gradually cleared, and the room came into sharp focus once more. As the dizziness subsided, Lupin tried to sit up by propping himself up with his hands. Liam, noticing his trembling arms, quickly stepped forward to help him.
Fortunately, the magical ritual had been successful. After sitting on the operating table for just a few minutes, Lupin fully recovered. Liam and Hermione then began explaining the changes in his body as they walked out of the operating room. Soon, they arrived at a room as large as a classroom, entirely constructed of obsidian. Lupin noticed that silver threads were embedded in the obsidian, forming intricate magic arrays.
“This is the spell testing room, absolutely secure,” Liam explained. “Professor, you can use this space to get a feel for your new abilities.”
“Are you coming in as well? It seems a bit dangerous,” Lupin said, looking at Liam and Hermione as they entered the room. He was concerned about potentially losing control and hurting them.
“Please trust our skills, Professor Lupin,” Hermione said, a hint of indignation in her voice. She felt that Lupin was being overly cautious, which seemed to undermine her and Liam’s expertise and the effort they had put in.
Lupin could sense the tone in Hermione’s voice and gave an awkward smile. After all, he was in a state similar to a patient just waking up from anesthesia. His instinct was to see Liam and Hermione as students of his age, forgetting that wizards capable of transforming werewolves were far from ordinary and could protect themselves, even from a werewolf in wolf form.
Once inside the Spell Practice Room, Hermione and Liam raised a transparent barrier with a wave of their wands. Lupin then began his first transformation after the change. The new transformation required a strong emotion to guide the power. Given his cautious nature as a werewolf who had long navigated the dark side of the wizarding world, Lupin chose positive emotions as his guide.
Seeing Lupin’s blissful smile, Liam knew he was thinking about his love for Tonks, perhaps even daydreaming about naming their future children. Fortunately, love could be a very powerful emotion. A few minutes later, with a howl, Lupin’s body and face elongated, his fur sprouted, and he lunged forward, collapsing onto the floor.
The transformation took only a few seconds, and then a motorcycle-sized gray wolf appeared in the room. This new form was drastically different from his previous werewolf appearance. If the previous werewolf was a grotesque transformation, the wolf now before Liam was a creature of natural beauty.
After transforming, Lupin circled around a few times, clearly delighted to retain his human consciousness in this form. He then sat down like a dog and looked at Liam and Hermione.
“Professor, how do you feel? If you’re feeling good, nod your head,” Hermione asked the gray wolf. As soon as she finished speaking, the gray wolf nodded.
"We've succeeded." Hermione and Liam high-fived in the air, then they and Lupin conducted a series of tests to ensure the treatment was indeed successful. After the tests, Liam and the others left the room and left a set of clothes. A few minutes later, Lupin, who had transformed back into human form, walked out.
"This is a remarkable achievement. We just need to test it during the full moon." After stepping out of the room, the first thing Lupin did was to give Liam a tight hug and express his gratitude. "I can't wait to help my werewolf friends get rid of these furry issues."
Lupin paused for a moment, then asked in an embarrassed tone, "I was a bit too excited earlier. This treatment must have been quite expensive, right?"
"Yes." Liam nodded. Following the European custom of separating friendship from finances, he straightforwardly quoted the cost price. It was certainly not a small amount, but Lupin nodded in agreement after hearing it.
"You only charged the cost price? Thank you so much! This cost is only slightly more than what a werewolf would spend on Wolfsbane Potion over 50 years. As a complete cure, this price is very reasonable." Lupin's tone turned a bit melancholic. "The problem is that werewolves are really poor. Most of them can't afford it like I can, with shares in a store and a decent job."
"Norwegian werewolves won't have a problem now. If they're willing to sign a 15-year long-term contract with the store, they'll receive the same benefits and promotions as regular employees. The only difference is that they'll only receive 80% of their salary, with the remaining 20% going towards installment payments for the treatment. Of course, if they get a raise during this period, they can choose to pay off the treatment earlier." Liam thought for a moment and came up with a solution. Since he planned to use this treatment to win over the werewolves, he decided to charge only the cost price. The installment payments would also ensure that the werewolves remembered his kindness.
"That's fantastic." Lupin smiled widely, possibly the happiest he had been since becoming a werewolf. After a moment, he sobered up and asked worriedly, "But what if more werewolves come? We can't have you supporting them for free, and I've been worried that the plantation's production might reach its limit."
"Professor, you don't need to worry about that", Hermione interjected. "This time, we not only signed raw material procurement contracts in China but also sales contracts. It's a flourishing and populous wizarding world, with a huge demand for these entertainment products. The joke items we brought as gifts were very popular with the local wizards, and many asked where they could buy them. I believe that if we can open up that market, the current number of people will be far from enough."
During their trip to China, they naturally made many friends. The small items from the Joke Shop were perfect gifts for new acquaintances. The young Chinese ritualists quickly embraced these interesting gadgets and showed a keen interest in the products, which is why Hermione was confident they could sell them in China.
"That's good, that's good—" Lupin sighed in relief upon hearing Hermione's explanation. He genuinely wanted to help the good werewolves but didn't want his students to be at a disadvantage. He had been torn over this, but now he no longer had to worry.
As for the werewolf army under Fenrir Greyback, Lupin and Liam agreed that they must pay for their crimes. Liam even convinced Lupin that the old Voldemort's werewolf army must be eradicated by these new, reformed werewolves, so that wizards could truly accept the new generation of werewolves.
For the next week, Lupin stayed at the manor with Liam and the others to facilitate follow-up medical check-ups. When the full moon arrived, the most critical test for the new werewolves was at hand.
