Chapter 479: Transformation
Chapter 479: Transformation
Because Lupin was a Werewolf, he was often ostracized and even expelled by Wizards in the Wizarding World. During his difficult times, he spent a long period in the Muggle world. In terms of understanding the Muggle world, he might know more than Mr. Weasley, who was passionate about Muggles. At the very least, he wouldn’t be confused about what a plug or a wire was for.
Therefore, the moment he stepped into the Laboratory, he keenly noticed that the technological level of this Laboratory far exceeded that of the current Muggle world, with cutting-edge innovations such as thin laptops, tablets, and several round robots flying around, all of which were beyond the capabilities of the outside world's technology.
He knew that his former students, Liam and Hermione, must be hiding secrets that no one else knew, but he also understood that everyone had their own secrets, and there was no need to pry too deeply. After seeing the advanced technology in the Laboratory, he had even more confidence in the treatment plan for Werewolves that Liam and Hermione had developed.
"Alright, lie down on the bed", Liam instructed as they entered a house surrounded by thick brick walls. He and Hermione then started retrieving various items from the surrounding cabinets and boxes.
Only after lying down did Lupin realize that the room resembled an emergency operating room in a Muggle hospital, which was indeed the case. After Bellatrix was transformed into a Vampire in another world, the medical equipment the Cullen Family had prepared for newborn Vampires became useless. When they learned that Liam and his team needed the equipment, the Cullen Family generously donated all of it. It was perfect for now, to examine Lupin and determine his physical condition.
"Alright, Professor, you look a bit nervous. There's no need to be. No matter what, you'll be better off when you wake up", Hermione reassured him, noticing his accelerated heartbeat and flushed face. She then activated the Magic Array installed beneath the operating table, causing Lupin to fall into a deep sleep.
"Let's begin", Liam said, nodding to Hermione. He started making various gestures, casting spells to activate all the Magic Arrays in the room. As he chanted the spells, one Magic Array after another lit up. Five minutes later, the final spell was completed. The entire room, including the walls, floor, and ceiling, was filled with various Magic Arrays emitting different lights. The magic power within these Arrays had been activated and resonated, forming a complete seal around the room.
Once the first step was confirmed to be completed, Liam took out a test tube containing ten milliliters of Werewolf blood from his Spatial Bag and walked to the head of Lupin's bed to pour out the blood. Under the influence of the Magic Array, the blood formed a small sphere that floated above Lupin's forehead.
"Dissolve", Liam said, pointing at the blood with his finger adorned with a Magic Ring. Blood-red runes began to detach from the small sphere and float in the air. At the same time, Hermione's hands emitted streams of blood-red mist that completely covered Lupin. Runes made of the mist began to float up from his body.
Finally, when no more runes appeared, the space above the operating table was filled with runes composed of light and mist. Fortunately, due to different methods of analysis, the two types of runes, which came from different forms, were clearly separated into two distinct clusters, making the next step easier.
Liam carefully observed the runes and began selecting which ones could be altered. After integrating knowledge from multiple worlds, Liam understood a crucial point: all living beings in each world were influenced by certain rules. These rules left traces that could not be erased before the beings themselves mastered the rules. The only option was to replace the existing rules with similar ones.
For example, Lupin was a Werewolf, and according to the rules, this transformation was irreversible. It was similar to how humans in the Twilight world, once turned into Vampires, could not revert to their human form. If Lupin wanted to resolve his furry issue, his only option would be to grow to a level where he could master the rules. Unfortunately, neither his resources nor his talents supported this approach.
Now, Liam's treatment method involved replacing the rules with similar ones. He could do this because he had found another form of Werewolf in other worlds, providing samples for the replacement.
However, the replacement was not a direct copy, as different worlds had different rules, and many things could not be directly transferred. To cure Lupin, the rules of the Twilight Worlds concerning werewolves needed to be adjusted before they could be applied to him.
Over the next three hours, Liam meticulously edited the runes. The entire process required a tremendous amount of energy, but fortunately, Liam’s preparations proved useful: the four fusion reactors below were operating at full capacity, converting the energy into magic power, which was then channeled into all the magic arrays in the room. Liam guided the energy generated by these arrays to bind the runes firmly in place and rearrange them according to his will. After deleting half of the runes, a sphere composed of mist runes and light runes appeared in the air.
"Is it ready now?" Hermione asked, turning her head. She had to keep Lupin’s life force at a very low level during this stage, so she hadn’t stopped channeling magic power. This task was much simpler than what Liam had been doing, but due to her limited magical abilities, she found it very challenging. Liam could see that her brown hair was sticking to her face with sweat.
"Ready, just hold on a little longer, and it will be over soon." Liam waved his hand, and all the magic arrays in the room activated. A powerful energy field enveloped the sphere of runes. Under his control, the runes within the sphere began to flicker, and the two different types of runes slowly began to align. After three minutes, all the runes had transformed into blood-red runes, each slightly entwined with a thread of mist.
These new runes started to spin rapidly, and as they spun, the sphere they formed began to collapse inward. When the runes were compressed to their utmost, the first drop of liquid appeared.
This drop of liquid was like a top-grade ruby, radiating an enchanting glow. With this drop at its core, all the other runes flowed into it. Finally, when all the runes had disappeared, a marble-sized drop of liquid floated above Lupin’s forehead, continuously flowing as if it were alive.
"Finally, it’s done." Liam waved his hand, and the liquid flew to Lupin’s forehead, quickly seeping through his skin. Three minutes later, Lupin began to tremble slightly, his skin turning red, and his body temperature rising.
"What’s happening?" Hermione asked, concerned about Lupin’s current state.
"We succeeded." Liam gently placed his hand on Hermione’s shoulder. "Now it’s Professor Lupin’s turn. We can’t interfere anymore, so we can go out and rest while we wait for him to come out."
As they walked to the waiting room and sat down, both felt a wave of fatigue wash over them. Controlling such powerful forces, even with the help of the magic arrays, was exhausting. After several minutes, Hermione gathered her strength and asked, "What will Professor Lupin be like after this transformation? I didn’t understand a lot of the runes you used."
"Let me explain. His body will be stronger than before, but he won’t have Jacob’s eternal youth or immortality. However, he will retain the ability to reproduce, which Jacob and his kind lack. Additionally, the wolf he can transform into will be about the same size as Mr. Wolfe, and it will be much smaller and less powerful compared to Jacob’s. However, his magical defenses will be much stronger, and his rapid healing ability will remain intact. Lastly, he won’t have Jacob’s imprinted mate or mental link abilities, and he will still transform into a wolf during a full moon. However, he can transform at will and will no longer be able to spread the werewolf virus, though he will remain immune to it."
"Most importantly, he can transform into a werewolf through intense emotions, not just anger. And regardless of when he transforms, he will maintain human consciousness in wolf form. This means there won’t be any uncontrolled attacks, and being a werewolf will no longer be a burden but an advantage." Liam concluded.
Hermione smiled happily after listening, but before she could say anything, a muffled groan came from the ward: Lupin was waking up.
