Chapter 478: The Ice Sea Demon's Innate Ability
Chapter 478: The Ice Sea Demon's Innate Ability
In the center of the battlefield, a startled exclamation rang out.
"What?!"
"Cooperating with the Imperial powerhouse, Ren, to defeat the Sea Kraken and the Sea God Cult together?"
"Are you kidding me? Has the Empire gone mad, and the Federation as well?" Elder Aldo, dodging massive falling rocks at the rear, couldn't help but exclaim upon hearing the superior command from the control room.
Benito, who also heard this order in the control room, remained silent.
Although he didn't say anything, he found the command rather baffling.
Could adding one more Imperial young powerhouse, Ren, turn the tide of the battle?
Who exactly was this Ren? A Dawn Wizard of the Fourth Stage or a Dragon Knight? However, his long military service career had taught him one thing—obedience.
So, even though Benito was perplexed, he would still carry out the orders from above, considering a retreat only if the situation turned dire.
"Aldo, perhaps Ren's strength surpasses our imagination."
"Don't forget, I just told you that when I sat beside Ren, I felt he was even more unfathomable than my mentor."
"But no matter how unfathomable he is, he's still so young. How could he possibly be a Dawn Wizard of the Fourth Stage?" Aldo refuted.
In his opinion, Rebecca had been charmed by Ren.
"Well..."
"Rebecca, let's take a step back. Even if this Ren possesses the strength of a Crystalized Mage like my mentor..."
"But how much combat power can he exert alone, without the assistance of external forces like a colossal automaton?"
"Even if it was my mentor, with the help of the prototype automaton excavated from the Dwarven Empire's capital ruins, I doubt they could defeat this Sea Kraken." Aldo argued passionately.
Hearing Aldo's analysis, Rebecca was momentarily speechless, unsure how to respond.
Undeniably, Aldo's reasoning was logical.
But she believed that Lady Menya of the Empire must have her reasons for making such a decision.
Suddenly, Sword Saint Tairo shouted a warning: "Careful!"
At the same moment, he rushed forward like an arrow released from a bow.
"Hiss!"
The Sea Kraken, taking advantage of everyone's momentary distraction, raised its third head and spewed a dense mist into the sky.
The once azure sky above them suddenly darkened as if a storm was approaching.
A thick fog instantly spread over several hundred meters.
"Hiss! Hiss!"
The other two heads of the Sea Kraken concentrated their attacks on Benito's Ajax Automaton, unleashing Frost Breath and Tidal Breath in quick succession.
Sword Saint Tairo instantly understood their intention.
The Sea God Cult and the Sea Kraken were taking advantage of the situation to destroy another Ajax Automaton and then break through from the side to join forces with the ancient beast, Gazrian.
"Blade Cyclone!"
Tairo roared, brandishing his greatsword and spinning at high speed! A tornado of blades formed rapidly, expanding from a height of ten meters to over thirty meters and then fifty meters in an instant!
This massive cyclone, composed of hundreds and thousands of silver sword lights, rushed towards the foggy area.
In an instant, the dense fog was violently stirred up! Wherever the blade cyclone passed, the fog cleared instantly, and even some Sea God Cultists and sea beasts who couldn't dodge in time were injured by the sword lights, their bodies torn open, blood splattering, and cries of agony filling the air!
"Boom!!!"
However, the Sea Kraken's sneak attack was successful!
Benito's Ajax Automaton, hit by the Frost Breath, slowed down in its evasive maneuver, and the Sea Kraken followed up with a fierce charge.
Metal, when covered in low temperatures, becomes extremely fragile.
After the collision, the automaton was knocked back dozens of meters, and its metal arms shattered.
In an instant, only Rebecca's Ajax Automaton remained fully functional on the battlefield.
Although Sword Saint Tairo had inflicted casualties on many sea beasts, the Federation had suffered more losses in this exchange.
If the Epic Strongman from the Sea God Cult was included, the scales of victory were gradually tilting in favor of the Sea Kraken.
"Damn it!"
Rebecca couldn't help but curse unladylike. Aldo's analysis had caught her off guard, and she had just spoken up.
But Aldo stepped aside, allowing Benito to take the lead.
At this moment, Ren, riding on a Bloodfeather Harpy, was flying towards the area where the sea beasts and the Sea God Cult were located.
However, flying was not the Bloodfeather Harpy's forte, so their speed in the air was not exceptionally fast.
For a moment, even Rebecca's heart was filled with doubt!
Meanwhile, 'Red Queen' Menya and 'Great Earth Pulse' Reginald had arrived at the Fadil Mountains, standing before the ancient Sea Dragon King, Gazrian.
And Gazrian had already emerged from the Fadil Mountains, his massive body over a hundred meters tall, resembling a small mountain. It was the largest creature Reginald had ever seen, second only to the Mother Tree.
However, both the Mother Tree and the Virtual Mother Tree were plants, while the creature before them was a colossal beast, making a simple comparison difficult.
"Your Majesty Reginald, please take the lead."
"Alright, Lady Menya," Reginald nodded solemnly.
Although Earth-type sorcery included many spells like Mud Spell, Swamp Spell, and Earth Wall that were adept at restricting enemies, this situation was different.
The opponent's size was too massive, so unless several Dawn Wizards cast these spells together, they wouldn't have much effect.
Of course, to prevent the enemy from regrouping, aside from slowing them down, there was another way—to infuriate them and make the beast chase after you.
Reginald knew that to achieve this, he would have to resort to using an Earth-type Dawn Kill spell.
And so, Reginald unleashed his Dawn Kill spell! He controlled the massive yellow-brown dragon, Ted, and quickly positioned himself on Gazrian's left wing, immediately beginning to chant and cast his spell.
"Level 1 Spell: Mud Spell!"
As Reginald chanted loudly, the ground within a few hundred meters around Gazrian, the Ice Sea Demon, turned into soft mud.
"Level 2 Spell: Earth Bind!"
The swamp-like ground suddenly became viscous, and although Gazrian wasn't completely restrained, each step he took was much slower than before.
"Level 3 Spell: Giant Boulder Spell!"
A huge stone block, over ten meters in diameter, abruptly appeared in front of Reginald.
The stone spun rapidly while continuously absorbing and gathering Earth-type energy, quickly expanding!
"Level 4 Spell: Hand of Earth!"
Two massive yellow-brown hands suddenly emerged from the ground in front of Reginald, grasping the now-enlarged stone block and holding it in a throwing position.
"Dawn Kill: Giant Boulder Throw!"
With the final chant, the Earth Pulse, Reginald, pointed at the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian. The two giant hands hurled the boulder with tremendous force!
"Hoo!"
Accompanied by a fierce tearing sound, the boulder, trailing a long yellow-brown tail, shot towards Gazrian.
"Boom!!!"
The boulder arrived in the blink of an eye, and perhaps because Gazrian had just awakened, his reaction was half a beat slower, and the boulder struck him squarely in the chest.
"Roar!!!"
Gazrian's white scales shattered, leaving a large indentation on his chest, and he roared in pain.
Ted, the yellow-brown dragon, followed up with a breath attack, striking Gazrian's body.
However, after the successful hit, Reginald's expression became even more solemn.
The damage they had inflicted was much less than he had anticipated.
This indicated that Gazrian's strength, though fallen from the Demigod tier, had maintained at the Epic Peak level, not the late Epic stage as he had previously guessed.
"Lady Menya, be careful. Gazrian's strength is at least at the Epic Peak, and my Dawn Kill spell, Giant Boulder Throw, only inflicted a minor injury."
Even without Reginald's message, Lady Menya, the Red Queen, positioned on Gazrian's right, had already assessed the opponent's strength.
Without hesitation, she unleashed her spell!
Gazrian, the Ice Sea Demon, howled in pain and immediately shifted his gaze from the sea to Reginald.
Reginald's heart tightened as he was stared down by the three enormous dragon heads. He quickly cast a defensive spell.
"Shh!"
The three dragon heads spewed out massive amounts of white ice crystals, filling the air with an intense cold.
"Step back, Your Majesty Reginald!" Menya shouted as she cast her spell.
Reginald heeded her warning and abandoned his defensive spell, swiftly maneuvering his dragon companion, Ted, to dodge.
However, the ice crystal breath from the three dragon heads covered a vast area, and even with Ted's best efforts, the edge of his right wing was still caught by the attack.
"Crack!"
Instantly, the affected part of the wing froze over with thick ice, quickly spreading from a region of less than a meter to four or five meters.
"Roar!"
Ted, Reginald's dragon companion, let out a painful cry, and his body began to shake violently mid-flight.
Fortunately, Menya's warning had come just in time, and the injured area on Ted wasn't too extensive.
At that moment, one of Gazrian's dragon heads suddenly lunged forward like lightning, covering dozens of meters in a flash. It opened its massive jaws and bit down on Ted with incredible force.
Suddenly, a red beam of light flashed by!
"Pfft!"
The forehead of the dragon head was pierced, leaving a fist-sized hole. The surrounding flesh was scorched black by the intense heat of the flames.
The caster of this powerful spell was none other than Lady Menya, the Red Queen.
She unleashed her signature Dawn Kill spell, the Blazing Wave Cone, renowned for its exceptional penetration power.
"Roar!"
The dragon head instantly went limp, appearing lifeless.
Its counterattack against the dragon Ted was effectively halted by Menya.
The high-ranking generals on the Federation's giant airship breathed a collective sigh of relief upon witnessing this scene.
"It seems the strength of the Empire's veteran Dragon Knight exceeds our expectations."
"Lady Menya's Dawn Kill spell is indeed formidable."
"Indeed, with this, the 'Ice Sea Demon' Gazrian should be manageable."
"The priority now is to prevent the Sea God Cult from joining forces with the enemy."
However, just as everyone felt relieved, the situation on the battlefield took an unexpected turn.
The other two dragon heads of the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian roared in anger. The next second, the seemingly lifeless dragon head, with its limp neck, suddenly opened its eyes and rose again.
"What the..." Reginald was taken aback.
"Just as the ancient records suggest, the three dragon heads of the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian possess a peculiar ability to revive each other. Only by simultaneously slaying all three heads can this ancient beast be truly defeated."
Menya's expression turned grave upon hearing this.
"What?!"
Reginald's face paled at Menya's revelation.
To achieve this, it would require at least three Imperial Guardians working together, or even four if one were to focus on restraining the beast.
Conservatively, it would take a minimum of five Imperial Guardians to accomplish this feat.
Onboard the Federation's giant airship, the high-ranking generals and Vice-Chancellor Bertrand witnessed this astonishing turn of events, leaving them speechless.
"Is Lady Menya's powerful Dawn Kill spell not enough to take down a single head of the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian?"
"The information regarding the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian has been received," a messenger reported promptly.
"What? We need to continuously slay all three heads within a short time frame to completely defeat it?" exclaimed a young general who had read the report.
"Contact the nearest Federation strongmen immediately," Vice-Chancellor Bertrand ordered with a furrowed brow.
"We need at least two, no, three Epic-tier warriors to ensure we can surround and defeat the Ice Sea Demon Gazrian."
"But time may not be on our side," a nearby general cautioned.
"The closest Federation Epic-tier warriors might take at least half an hour to arrive."
"Contact them regardless of the time!"
On one side of the Fadil Mountains, Menya's attack had enraged Gazrian.
The Ice Sea Demon abruptly turned ninety degrees, abandoning its attempt to join the Sea Kraken and instead charging towards Menya, who was riding the red dragon Thassa.
The previous strike had indeed hurt it, but Menya, the Red Queen, remained calm and composed.
Although her attack didn't yield the expected results, she had successfully executed her tactical plan.
The Ice Sea Demon Gazrian had given up on joining the Sea God Cult's forces and was now pursuing her, which could be considered a successful obstruction.
However, after a short while, Gazrian seemed to realize something or perhaps its anger subsided as it reached its peak. It abruptly stopped its pursuit and turned towards the Sea God Cult's forces.
The massive Ice Sea Demon slowly retreated, allowing Menya and her team to advance.
Menya, without hesitation, unleashed another powerful spell, striking Gazrian with a giant boulder trailing a yellowish-brown comet tail.
This forced Gazrian to abandon its attempt to join the Sea Kraken and instead chase after Reginald, who was riding a yellowish-brown dragon.
For a while, Menya and Reginald, the Imperial Guardians, attacked Gazrian from both sides, drawing its attention.
However, they soon realized a problem.
Although they had delayed Gazrian's reunion with the Sea God Cult, the continuous use of their Dawn Kill spells had taken a toll on their psi.
Even seasoned Imperial Guardians like them couldn't sustain multiple consecutive uses of such powerful spells.
Before long, their psi would be depleted.
