Chapter 478: The Girl, Fireworks, and Pokemon [End of Volume]
Chapter 478: The Girl, Fireworks, and Pokemon [End of Volume]
Early in the morning, as Naoki headed to Shiku Town to buy groceries, he spotted humans and Pokemon busily setting up stalls and transporting fireworks towards the beach.
Strolling through the streets with his Motostoke Rahksha, Naoki noticed an unusual buzz in Shiku Town.
Even the shops along the streets were adorned with promotional banners for the fireworks display.
People from all walks of life gathered on the streets, casually chatting and enjoying the company of their Pokemon.
"Looks like it's going to be quite the lively evening!" Naoki couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building within him.
His Motostoke Rahksha, equally infected by this excitement, let out an eager cry, "Rahk!"
After finishing their grocery shopping, the duo returned to the ranch.
Naoki chatted with the Pokemon on the ranch about the upcoming fireworks festival.
Upon hearing that there would be another fireworks display, Popplo and the others became ecstatic.
Indeed, Eldegoss reminisced about the previous year's fireworks festival, where the night sky had been illuminated by a dazzling display of colors.
"Bonny!" It was determined to join in the festivities this year as well.
Motostoke Rahksha scurried into the room and soon emerged with a Poke Ball in its mouth, which it presented to Naoki expectantly.
"Alright, alright, I get it. We'll play with the Poke Ball later," Naoki said, gently patting the Rahksha's head.
Not far away, Gourgeist displayed a look of disdain. Playing with a Poke Ball was simply too juvenile for its tastes!
As Naoki surveyed his surroundings, he noticed the absence of the Eevees.
He knew without a doubt that the mischievous bunch had probably run off to play at the World Tree again.
He pulled out his phone and video-called Mewtwo.
Soon enough, the Eevees' adorable faces popped up on the screen.
"If you don't come back soon, I won't take you to the fireworks festival tonight!" Naoki warned.
"Ee-vees..."
Hearing this, the Eevees wore conflicted expressions.
After some detailed inquiries, Naoki learned that the Pokemon at the World Tree were also planning a bonfire party for that evening, and the Eevees had already promised to attend.
"I see..." Naoki nodded, then came up with a great idea. "In that case, why don't you stay at the World Tree? You should be able to see the fireworks from there too. Remember to give me a video call, and we can watch the fireworks together over the phone."
"Eevee!" This was a brilliant idea.
The Eevees' faces lit up with joy.
After hanging up, Naoki turned to the Aipom siblings, "Little Sister, why don't you join us this year?"
"Ai..." Though tempted, the female Aipom hesitated, her face clouded with uncertainty.
Naoki immediately understood her concern, "Don't worry, it's fine for the Pokemon Tavern to take a day off. I'm sure the Pokemon guests will also be drawn to the fireworks festival."
Reassured by Naoki's words, the female Aipom agreed, along with her brother. They planned to join Naoki later that evening to watch the fireworks at the beach.
Naoki then stepped out of the room and into the ranch.
He spotted his Noivern standing by the farmlands, watering the crops, while his Gogoat waited patiently to use its Grassy Energy to tend to the plants, just like they did every day.
Not far away, on the grassy field, the Milanks were leisurely grazing on the dewy grass.
Witnessing this idyllic scene, a smile crept onto Naoki's face.
He glanced towards the ranch's entrance but saw no one there.
"I wonder if Kishu is here yet," he mused aloud.
After a moment's thought, he pulled out his phone and dialed Kishu's number.
Soon, Kishu's energetic voice rang through, "Hello?"
Naoki raised an eyebrow, looking towards the ranch's entrance, "Are you almost here?"
"We're just about to set off!" Kishu replied, the sounds of rustling coming through the phone. "I'm preparing gifts for your Motostoke Rahkshas and the others. Sorry for bothering you again today!"
"It's no bother," Naoki replied. "You're always welcome here. No need to bring gifts every time."
"Hehe!" Kishu giggled on the other end. "I feel a bit guilty for always troubling you, but rest assured, I've got everything ready, and we'll be on our way soon!"
Naoki checked the time and suggested, "Why don't I send Noivern to pick you up?"
Without waiting for Kishu's response, he located his Noivern and shared his plan.
Moments later, Noivern happily took off with its backpack.
"Alright, that's settled then," Naoki said. "I still have a few things to take care of here. Noivern's on its way, and it should reach Nector City very soon."
"Okay, got it!" Kishu replied.
After hanging up, Naoki went to the fields to harvest the crops that his Gogoat had ripened.
Meanwhile, in Nector City...
Kishu stood on the street with her shopping bags, a broad smile stretching across her face.
"Hehe," she chuckled, her Electrode bouncing happily beside her, sensing its Trainer's cheerful mood.
Suddenly, a message from Sonia interrupted Kishu's thoughts.
"Hmm? Is that the Champion?" Kishu wondered if there was a special mission. The thought of it made her nervous, as she had just requested a two-day leave from Sonia.
When she had asked for time off, she had simply said she had some matters to attend to. If Sonia found out that she was taking time off to have fun, she'd be in big trouble!
Hastily, Kishu opened her Rotom Phone, only to find that Sonia seemed to just be reaching out for a casual chat.
[Sonia: Has the Nector Gym stopped accepting challenges for now?]
【Sonia: Is that so? Are you not going to be in Nector City these next two days?]
【Kishu: I have some personal matters to take care of, so I'll be away for a couple of days.】
Kishu replied nervously, but fortunately, the Chief didn't ask further questions. She breathed a sigh of relief and stood there, waiting for her Haxorus to come and pick her up.
At the Padaria League headquarters...
Shin Li looked at Sonia's smiling face and felt speechless.
"That silly girl has finally wised up," Sonia said with satisfaction. "I hope there will be some progress today!"
Shin Li: "...Chief, the Nector Gym has already received complaints from Trainers. Moreover, if the two of them make progress in their relationship, get married, and have children, there won't be anyone left to run the Nector Gym."
As far as Shin Li knew, a lack of dedication to work was a serious matter to the Chief.
However, this time, the Chief's reaction was not what Shin Li had expected.
Sonia simply waved her hand dismissively and said, "It's fine. These current losses are necessary. As for marriage and children, Shin Li, you're thinking too far ahead!"
Shin Li: "..."
Sonia smiled and said, "Don't worry! Even if Kishu gets pregnant, we still have Naoki. There's no way he'll let Kishu greet challengers with a big belly."
Shin Li paused, and then a scene flashed through her mind: Kishu resting at home while Naoki took his Pokemon to work as the temporary Gym Leader.
But then she thought again. With Naoki's strength, perhaps no Trainer could defeat him and earn a Gym badge from him?
"However, it's too early to talk about these things now."
For now, they didn't know Naoki's thoughts on the matter. Although Kishu visited his ranch every month under the pretext of challenge trials, they didn't know what Naoki truly thought about it all.
Sonia was well aware that it was too early to pop the champagne. She sat in her chair, briefly lost in thought, and then made a decision.
"By the way, Shin Li, inform everyone that the Padaria League will take a day off today. Let them go out and have some fun!"
Shin Li was taken aback and asked, "What about you?"
Sonia: "Let's take a trip to Soak Town. I heard they've made a lot of preparations for the fireworks display this year! It's going to be very lively!"
"Thanks for your hard work, Haxorus!"
In Nector City, as Kishu watched the Haxorus descend in front of her, she smiled and patted its head.
The Haxorus was familiar with this human who frequently visited the ranch. It happily roared and lowered its body to make it easier for her to climb on.
But before that, Kishu opened the bag attached to Haxorus's body and placed the gifts she had bought inside.
Then, she took out a Poke Ball, recalled her Electrode, and finally mounted the Haxorus.
Thirty minutes later, Haxorus smoothly returned to the ranch.
As they landed, Naoki was busy moving boxes filled with crops alongside his Coalossal.
From a distance, Kishu enthusiastically waved her arms and called out, "Long time no see, Naoki!"
"It hasn't been that long, has it?" Naoki replied helplessly.
"Hehe!"
Naoki reluctantly put down the boxes and continued, "Why don't you take a rest in the living room first? The fireworks display doesn't start until later, around six or seven o'clock."
"Then I won't hold back!"
Naoki had intended to finish this task before attending to his guests.
However, due to the fireworks display, quite a few tourists had arrived, and that morning, he had already hosted several Trainers who had come for challenge trials.
There were even Trainers from other regions who claimed they wanted to see the true face of the hidden boss of the Padaria region and challenged him to show his full strength.
Among them was the champion of the previous Specter Grand Festival, an extremely strong Trainer whose ace, Blaziken, was unbeatable.
Naoki, of course, didn't hold back.
Since these people regarded him as the hidden boss of the Padaria region, he would play the part! And so, Naoki decisively sent out his Coalossal and delivered a stunning six-hit combo to his opponent, leaving the challenger stunned and muttering about his terrifying strength as he left the ranch in a daze.
Naoki: "..."
When everything was finally over, it was already six o'clock in the evening.
After a quick dinner, Naoki and Kishu set off with their Pokemon to attend the fireworks display.
When they arrived, they found that the beach was already filled with tourists and Pokemon.
There were young Trainers on their journeys, couples strolling together, parents who had brought their children to see the fireworks, and even elderly couples with their equally aged Pokemon, sitting on benches and gazing up at the beautiful night sky and the vast ocean below.
Moreover, Naoki noticed that the scale of the market in the distance had also expanded.
From the takoyaki shop to Mr. Magikarp selling Magikarp, and the stalls selling Berries and handmade Poke Balls, Naoki even spotted a mysterious fortune-telling booth with a Dream Eater holding a pendulum and hypnotizing tourists.
There were also many children playing with Poke Ball toys.
Just as Thomas had said, this year's fireworks display was going to be exceptionally lively!
The two of them found a spot on the beach that wasn't too crowded and sat down.
Naoki stood up, took the ball, and threw it with all his might. The Motostoke Rahksha immediately chased after it.
However, halfway through its chase, a Goolet darted past and snatched the ball right in front of it!
"Rawr!"
The Motostoke Rahksha was astonished and turned to Naoki, whining pitifully to complain about Goolet's behavior.
Naoki instantly felt a headache coming on. "Goolet!"
Goolet immediately dropped the ball and scurried away in a panic.
Naoki: "......"
Kishu, who was nearby, stifled a giggle. "So, this is how you usually get along with Goolet and the others?"
"Yeah!" Naoki smiled and nodded. "Having them around makes me feel like life will never be boring!"
With that, Naoki threw the ball that the Motostoke Rahksha had retrieved.
The Motostoke Rahksha excitedly chased after it.
Kishu'sレントン (Rentoon)
and アママイコ (Sweet Kiss)
looked on enviously.
They scurried over to Kishu, indicating that they wanted to play too.
Kishu was in a dilemma as she hadn't brought any toys for her Pokemon this time!
Noticing this, Naoki smiled and took out some toy frisbees that he had prepared in advance. "Use mine!"
レントン (Rentoon)
and アママイコ (Sweet Kiss)
turned to look at the human.
Naoki smiled at them.
With his maxed-out Pokemon Amity, he quickly gained the trust of レントン (Rentoon)
and アママイコ (Sweet Kiss)
.
Soon, the two of them were playing a game of frisbee with a group of Pokemon.
Yaramper and Indeedee weren't interested in catching frisbees. Holding hands, they curiously weaved through the stalls, with Yaramper, wearing a mask, pretending to be a human, and Indeedee pretending to be its Pokemon.
In this way, the two Pokemon perfectly blended into the crowd and enjoyed the experience of strolling through the market.
In a dim corner, Flapple quietly floated in the air, observing the humans.
Suddenly, Kishu's Mimikyu floated over curiously and asked what Flapple was doing.
Flapple murmured, "Dream!" (So beautiful!)
Mimikyu turned and saw the bustling market illuminated by colorful lights, with the deep blue night sky above, the cool sea breeze blowing in, and the waves gently lapping against the shore, leaving layers of white foam.
It truly was a breathtaking sight!
And so, Mimikyu and Flapple enjoyed the magnificent scenery together.
The Aipom siblings happily sat by Naoki's side. They spread a picnic cloth on the beach and placed a picnic basket filled with snacks on it, intending to eat when the Pokemon finished playing.
Meanwhile, Budew and its best friend, Magcargo, ran back and forth on the beach, gazing up at the round moon hanging overhead.
After playing with the Pokemon for a while, Naoki felt a bit tired and sat down on the beach to rest.
Kishu, too, pushed away Rentoon's big face, which was hovering over her, and sat down on the beach to catch her breath.
Neither of them spoke.
Gazing at the full moon and the bustling crowd, Naoki suddenly felt that this moment was incredibly beautiful.
He couldn't help but recall what his little sister, Aipom, had said not long ago.
She had said that she could sense Kishu's fondness for him.
With that thought, Naoki turned to look at the girl beside him.
Unexpectedly, Kishu was also looking at him, and their gazes met in the night.
A strange atmosphere began to flow between them.
"The moon is so beautiful tonight!" Kishu turned her head awkwardly towards the sky, feeling a warmth spreading across her face.
Naoki followed her gaze and indeed saw a full moon hanging in the sky. He slowly exhaled, sensing the unusual atmosphere, and decided to change the subject. "By the way, I've always had a question for you."
"Hmm? What is it?" Kishu turned to face him.
Naoki asked sincerely, "Nectar City and Shiku Town are so far apart. Don't you find it troublesome to come over so often?"
"......"
"......"
At that moment, Kishu felt her heart stir with complex emotions.
She looked at Naoki, her expression conveying a mix of exasperation and resignation, as if she had come to a difficult decision. "Naoki, you're such an idiot!"
Naoki was taken aback for a moment.
Kishu's face flushed as she continued, "Of course, I come here because of you!"
Hearing this, Naoki was stunned.
Just then, as the crowd around them cheered, the fireworks prepared by Mayor Thomas were set off one after another.
The next second, brilliant fireworks bloomed in the night sky, exploding into a dazzling array of colors behind Kishu.
In that radiant light, Naoki saw his reflection in Kishu's clear eyes.
In that moment, all the surrounding sounds seemed to fade away.
"Thump! Thump! Thump!"
Amidst the dazzling fireworks, Naoki heard the sound of his own heartbeat.
Kishu turned her head, gazing at the fireworks in the night sky, and then softly spoke:
"I like you!"
Her voice was barely audible, as if she were casually stating the most ordinary fact, yet it carried the weight of her heartfelt confession.
"Boom!"
A massive firework exploded in the sky.
The next second, a golden Pikachu head appeared in the night sky.
