Chapter 478: Give Me Answers
Chapter 478: Give Me Answers (Monthly Vote Request)
Tianhai Tower
This iconic commercial skyscraper in Tianhai City housed only the wealthiest corporations in the city.
It was already past opening hours, with office workers streaming in and out through the lobby. The towering security guards at the entrance radiated strong Vital Energy.
Three figures entered the building, led by a broad-shouldered man with a determined expression. Beside him walked a graceful woman, followed by a refined third figure—Lin Zhen, Fang Huiyi, and Fang Zhe.
The trio entered an elevator bound for the sixth floor.
Vrrr!
The elevator doors slid open, revealing a corridor leading to a massive blue corporate logo:
Xu Clan Group
At the spacious front desk, three elegantly dressed receptionists stiffened at the sight of the visitors. After exchanging uneasy glances, one of them stepped forward with a forced smile, her heels clicking.
“President Lin, you’ve arrived!”
“This way, please!”
Lin Zhen nodded but cut straight to the point.
“Where’s Manager Chen?”
“Is he here yet?”
The receptionist maintained her smile as she replied, “I’m sorry, but Manager Chen has an emergency at home and might be delayed.”
Lin Zhen’s brow furrowed. “Then we’ll wait.”
The receptionist apologized again before leading them to a luxurious waiting lounge, offering snacks and drinks.
Once she left, Fang Zhe scoffed.
“Chen Xiaonian’s deliberately avoiding us. We waited all afternoon last time—he’s trying the same trick again.”
“They’re all smiles but won’t let us see him. Are they snooping into our background?”
Lin Zhen shook his head. Last time, Chen Xiaonian had been the general manager of Xu Clan Group’s Cang Province branch—powerful and hard to reach. Back then, only Guo Heng’s father had secured them an audience.
Though Lin Zhen was now a big name in Tianhai’s elite circles, he still lacked the clout to impress top-tier Xia Kingdom conglomerates. Plus, he doubted Chen even knew his identity. Even Lin Qi’s parents had learned about his Sss-Rank Genius status only recently. Awareness was spreading, but many remained unaware.
*
Meanwhile, in a lavish office:
“Manager, the Lin-Fang Group is here again,” reported a stout middle-aged man in a suit. He lazily chewed a piece of meat while a glamorous woman in a black blazer massaged his shoulders.
“Why not just kick them out? Why bother entertaining them?” she asked.
The man sighed with pleasure. “They’re associates of Guo Jinsong. We can’t afford to offend anyone without cause.”
“You’re new here—there’s much to learn. Now, did you check their background?”
The woman hesitated. “They’re friends of Guo Jinsong. Something about a family Awakened prodigy…”
She didn’t mention she’d skipped checking after work.
Chen scoffed. “An Awakened prodigy? At most S-Rank. Not worth my time.”
“Guo exaggerated their status. These bumpkins probably couldn’t even afford Imperial Capital hotels.”
“Our group has no shortage of S-Rank talents. Connections are everything.”
“If I didn’t have my sister’s ties, I wouldn’t be manager. And without me, you wouldn’t be secretary.”
“Tomorrow, Xu Changfeng inspects the branch. Prepare accordingly.”
“Tell the front desk to keep them waiting. They’ll leave eventually.”
The woman nodded and exited.
*
After an hour in the waiting lounge, Lin Zhen confronted the receptionist.
“Manager Chen has urgent matters and won’t come in today,” she apologized.
Lin Zhen’s expression darkened as he returned to the lounge to relay the news.
Fang Zhe erupted. “Chen Xiaonian’s crossed the line! I’m calling Xiaoqi—don’t stop me!”
He dialed Lin Qi’s number. Moments later, he hung up, smirking.
“Xiaoqi’s coming. He’ll handle this.”
Lin Zhen and Fang Huiyi nodded, their hearts heavy with anger and worry.
*
At Star Sea Teahouse, Tianhai’s most exclusive teahouse, where elites and martial artists brokered deals, Lin Qi entered a classical private suite led by a Hanfu-clad server. Two guards stood at the door, and inside sat two men.
The elder, refined and handsome, extended his hand.
“Lin Qi, junior, it’s an honor!”
“Azure Firmament Martial Academy, Class 29. Your senior,” Xu Changfeng introduced.
“Senior Xu, a pleasure,” Lin Qi replied.
“Call me Brother Xu, if you’re comfortable.”
They exchanged pleasantries as the secretary poured tea. Delicate pastries and steaming cups adorned the table.
“Your rise from ordinary roots to Sss-Rank Genius and Global Championship winner is inspiring,” Xu Changfeng praised. “We spoiled heirs could never match you.”
Lin Qi inwardly preened. Xu Changfeng was Xu Qin’s elder brother—rarely would such a high-ranking figure show him such warmth.
After casual talk, Xu Changfeng proposed: “The Xu family operates nationwide. Disaster Beast meat sales are key. I’ll base myself here.”
“If you’re open, we could partner. Your father’s local ventures could use our scale.”
Lin Qi nodded. His father’s fledgling business lacked reach. While his reputation protected him, true influence required allies like Xu Changfeng.
“Agreed!” They clinked teacups.
Suddenly, Lin Qi’s phone buzzed—Fang Zhe’s call.
Apologizing, he answered outside. Moments later, he returned, his aura icy.
Xu Changfeng flinched. At Sixth Realm Bone Tempering, he felt like prey before a predator—even his sister hadn’t intimidated him this way.
“Junior Lin, what’s wrong?”
Lin Qi recounted the Tianhai Tower incident.
Xu Changfeng’s face paled. “This Chen deserves no mercy.”
“Secretary Xue, to the tower, now!”
“Of course, sir!”
*
Back at Xu Clan Group’s sixth-floor lounge, Fang Zhe updated Lin Zhen.
“Xiaoqi’s coming—and Xu Changfeng too.”
Fang Huiyi asked, “Xu Changfeng? Is he Xu family?”
Fang Zhe searched online—nothing.
Suddenly, his phone rang. “They’re here—elevator now!”
*
At the front desk, the receptionists gossiped:
“Still here? Chen’s fearless!”
“My brother said Lin-Fang’s connected.”
“Connected? Chen’s sister-in-law is Xu family’s mistress! Why else would he be manager?”
“Now he’s got an incompetent secretary—revenue’s dropped!”
The elevator doors opened. Four figures strode out, radiating pressure.
“President Xu!” the receptionists gasped, scrambling to greet them.
Xu Changfeng ignored them, marching to the lounge.
“Get Chen Xiaonian here!” his secretary barked.
The staff exchanged dread—the storm had arrived.
