Chapter 478: Are You Afraid of Dying? I'm Just Afraid of Delaying the Dark Lord's Great Cause!
Chapter 478: Are You Afraid of Dying? I’m Just Afraid of Delaying the Dark Lord’s Great Cause!
Thinking about this, Fudge glared fiercely at the tall and thin Auror in front of him.
The latter stood trembling in place, his face ashen, knowing that his career was over.
"Cornelius, I don’t think this is the time to assign blame. The most important thing is to find Peter Pettigrew’s whereabouts as quickly as possible", Dumbledore interrupted Fudge’s scolding.
"I know that!" Fudge said impatiently.
He was extremely annoyed by anyone telling him what to do, but he also understood that Dumbledore was right. So, he immediately ordered his Aurors to bring Dementors and search the entire island in batches!
Unless Mrs. Pettigrew brought two illegal Portkeys, Peter shouldn’t have gone too far!
After giving a few instructions, Fudge turned to look at Dumbledore, his eyes narrowing as he suddenly remembered something.
"Albus, how did you happen to be here so coincidentally?"
Fudge was very puzzled. It had only been a few minutes since Mrs. Pettigrew attacked the execution site, and he himself only learned about it after receiving a report from Auror Arnold.
How did Dumbledore arrive before him?
Was Arnold a mole planted by Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic, so he reported to Dumbledore before the Ministry?
Or did Dumbledore know Mrs. Pettigrew’s entire plan and deliberately withheld the information to come here and watch the show, even using this opportunity to try to force him, the Minister of Magic, from his position?
Thinking this, Fudge’s gaze towards Dumbledore became even more hostile.
However, Dumbledore quickly provided an explanation.
"Cornelius, I don’t want to engage in a conflict with you; it’s meaningless! Trelawney gave a new prophecy, and it’s related to Peter and that person. That’s why I came here!" Dumbledore’s eyes stared intently at Fudge, speaking very seriously.
"Prophecy?" Fudge found it absurd and sneered. "You’re telling me a crazy old woman just happened to foresee someone breaking Peter out of prison?"
For some reason, Fudge deliberately avoided mentioning the person Dumbledore referred to, his voice trembling slightly.
"I think you know as well, don’t you? It’s time to face reality, Cornelius! Her other prophecy is still stored in the Ministry of Magic."
Dumbledore had no intention of beating around the bush. He straightforwardly recounted the prophecy he had learned from Harry.
"She told me: Darkness is approaching, a great shadow covers the sky, the Dark Lord’s servants will escape, and the magical world will face great changes."
"No, that’s impossible!" Hearing Dumbledore’s words, Fudge felt a chill run down his spine and angrily protested.
Then, Fudge suddenly turned around and, upon realizing that his Aurors had all gone to search for Peter and no one had heard their conversation, he let out a sigh of relief.
"Why do you keep fixating on that person? He’s dead, Albus! Swept into the dustbin of history! He’ll never come back!"
Fudge lowered his voice and spoke hysterically, pausing for a moment before continuing. "And the Ministry of Magic today is not the same as it was back then. We have the capability to protect the safety of the magical world!"
You probably don't have the ability.
Dumbledore looked at Fudge with pity, not commenting on his words but giving a mild reminder.
"Running away won't help. One day we will have to face him again! That day is coming soon."
Fudge stood frozen in place, his ashen face changing repeatedly. In front of him, Dumbledore had already disappeared in a flash of fire.
Hours later, the Aurors gradually returned, reporting the situation and bringing the Auror who had been knocked out by Mrs. Pettigrew in Azkaban.
"So you didn't find Peter Pettigrew's whereabouts? What a bunch of incompetents!"
Fudge, already in a bad mood, immediately vented his anger on the Aurors, his tirade lasting over half an hour.
The Aurors involved were charged with severe dereliction of duty by Fudge!
After letting off some steam, Fudge began to worry about the repercussions of the incident. If news of Peter Pettigrew's escape spread, it would be a major blow to his reputation as Minister of Magic.
"None of you are to speak of today's events. Peter Pettigrew died from a Dementor's Kiss at noon today! Understand?" Fudge glared fiercely at the Aurors.
The Aurors nodded solemnly.
Satisfied, Fudge said no more. He had brought only trusted individuals, and without his command, they would not spread the news.
Fudge then waved his hand, ordering the Aurors to expand their search for Peter Pettigrew.
However, Fudge knew in his heart that finding a small rat in such a vast area was next to impossible.
Not to mention, Peter might have already left using a Portkey.
Even if Mrs. Pettigrew hadn't brought a second Portkey, Peter only needed a wand to Apparate away without entering Azkaban's interior.
"Come out, they're gone!"
At the same time, in a deep cell of Azkaban, a hoarse and low female voice echoed.
A rat slowly emerged from her sleeve, squeaking a few times, as if thanking her.
The Aurors' search had been thorough, sweeping through the entire Azkaban. If not for her hiding it in her clothes and the other Death Eaters feigning madness, they wouldn't have deceived the patrolling Aurors.
"Don't thank me so soon, Wormtail." The woman, leaning against the wall, looked haggard, her voice low and her eyes revealing madness and cruelty.
"We didn't save you for nothing. Saving you is saving ourselves." From another cell, a mad voice echoed.
"We need you to find the Dark Lord and help him. Then come back and save us."
The voices from all around made Peter curl up, trembling. He muttered, "I don't know what to do. I don't remember anything. I'll be caught as soon as I go out! The Aurors won't let me go."
"Afraid?" The mad woman grabbed Peter's tail, staring at him fiercely.
Peter shook his head violently, hastily declaring his loyalty to the Dark Lord.
What does death matter?
He was afraid of hindering the Dark Lord's great cause.
