Chapter 477: Growth in the Transparent World (8k) (Part 1)
Chapter 477: Growth in the Transparent World (8k) (Part 1)
"You fought well, Itachi. I knew you could win!" Obito exclaimed with delight as he saw Kakashi lose the battle.
What he feared most was that Kakashi would win while he lost.
Now that Kakashi had lost, and there was no way he could beat Might Guy, they were even, and neither could gloat.
"Wait, I can still tease Kakashi, and he can't refute me for the next two weeks." With this thought, Obito felt even more pleased with himself.
Kakashi glanced at Obito indifferently. He had lost, but Obito wouldn't fare any better. He was certain that Obito would lose to Might Guy.
When that happened, Obito would be so overwhelmed by the theoretical test papers that he'd likely spend two weeks recovering from the mental exhaustion.
"Although I lost the battle, I gained quite a bit from it," Kakashi thought to himself.
His biggest mistake in this fight was assuming that Itachi's genjutsu wouldn't affect him in his Transparent World state.
Itachi had shown him through their fight that the Transparent World couldn't ignore all genjutsu; the reason Itachi's genjutsu hadn't worked on him before was simply because it hadn't been strong enough.
"Maybe I can use this opportunity to train my Transparent World further," Kakashi thought, a sudden idea flashing through his mind.
If Itachi kept using genjutsu on him while he was in the Transparent World state, and he kept dispelling it, perhaps he could increase the speed of dispelling or enhance the Transparent World's fine control over the chakra within his body.
Kakashi felt that this unique training method was worth trying. If it failed, he would have only wasted a little time, but if it succeeded, the benefits would be considerable.
"Next up is Guy," Itachi said, looking at Might Guy.
Having defeated Obito in the previous civil war, he had now beaten Kakashi. Only Might Guy stood in his way.
Of course, Itachi wasn't being arrogant. He knew he couldn't beat Might Guy with his Eight Inner Gates and Rock Chakra Mode.
Not only was Might Guy exceptionally strong, but he also had a certain degree of advantage over Itachi. The genjutsu that Itachi excelled at was difficult to affect Might Guy, who had trained in the Eight Inner Gates.
Although it was a battle he was unlikely to win, Itachi would fight with all his might, learn from his defeat, and then dedicate himself to training to overcome this obstacle.
"Obito, Guy, get ready to fight," Mu Yue said after healing Itachi's injuries.
Obito took a deep breath and resolutely stepped into the battle arena. What had to come would come.
Might Guy laughed heartily and followed him into the arena, his gleaming white teeth reflecting the sunlight.
"Sakura, do you think Obito brought his camera with him to the Southern Forest?" Kakashi suddenly asked, struck by a thought.
Sometimes a picture was more convincing than words.
"I have seen him bring it, but I don't think he brings it every day," Sakura replied thoughtfully, unsure why Kakashi was asking this.
Kakashi nodded and performed a series of hand seals, creating a shadow clone that went to look for Obito's camera while his main body remained seated, watching the fight.
"Begin!"
Hearing Mu Yue's voice, Obito didn't hesitate for a moment. He immediately focused his breathing to enter the Fire Chakra Mode, intensifying his chakra to its utmost limit.
In a typical battle, Obito would test his opponent with a few standard Fire Release techniques, but facing Might Guy, he was concerned that he would be overwhelmed by the combined power of the Five Inner Gates and Rock Chakra Mode without a chance to showcase his abilities.
After all, Might Guy was known for his tendency to go all out without warning, and Obito had to be prepared for that possibility.
"Eight Inner Gates, Open!" Might Guy declared, not holding back as he opened four of his gates. An immense amount of chakra surged within him, causing his aura to surge wildly.
Huff! Huff!
Obito rapidly channeled his chakra, his hands and feet igniting with flames as he rushed towards Might Guy at incredible speed.
Obito knew that standard Fire Release techniques wouldn't be effective against Might Guy, so he decided to rely mainly on Fire Release ninjutsu for this battle.
Like Obito, Might Guy hadn't mastered the Body Flicker Technique, and Obito believed that his Fire Release ninjutsu, enhanced by the intense heat of the flames, might have an unexpected effect even without the addition of the Inner Gates.
"Flames cloaking his limbs... I'll need to counter that," Might Guy said, intending to use the Eight Inner Gates himself. He focused his breathing, reaching an extreme state.
"Rock Chakra Mode, Activate!"
Might Guy's breathing rhythm rapidly changed, and the vast amount of chakra within him began to burn fiercely. With the Rock Chakra Mode fully activated, his aura intensified even further.
"Fire Release: Flame Punch!"
Obito dashed forward, his right fist engulfed in fiery light. The intense flames that already enveloped his fist grew even more ferocious as he channeled additional chakra into it, causing sparks to burst in the air as he swung his fist.
Facing Obito's aggressive fire punch, Might Guy remained calm and collected. He gathered chakra in his own fist and slammed it forward with tremendous force.
Boom!!
The two fists collided, and the fierce flames surrounding Obito's fist were instantly dispersed, scattering in all directions.
Obito felt an incredibly powerful force assaulting him, and he exerted all his strength to try and resist it. However, he soon realized that he couldn't hold out against it. In just three seconds, he was overwhelmed and sent flying like a cannonball, crashing through several large trees before coming to a stop.
Kakashi, having entered the Transparent World, had predicted this outcome with absolute precision and captured the moment perfectly with his camera.
"Cough, cough... Truly impressive, Guy. You've got some serious strength there," Obito said as he quickly climbed to his feet and coughed a couple of times.
In truth, Obito had expected this outcome. It was only natural that he, a ninja specializing in Fire Release, would lose in a taijutsu battle against a pure taijutsu specialist like Might Guy.
Obito's primary goal had been to use the intense heat of the flames on his fist to inflict damage on Might Guy's fist, hoping to create an opportunity to trade injuries and gain a slight advantage.
Obito's eyes fixed on Might Guy's fist, but to his surprise, he saw no signs of the burn injuries he had expected. Might Guy's fist was simply redder than usual, as if it had been scalded by hot water.
"Could this be the result of the Rock Chakra Mode combined with the most rudimentary chakra protection?" Obito wondered, his eyelids twitching involuntarily.
He had heard Mu Yue mention that the Rock Chakra Mode enhanced defense, but he hadn't expected it to be this effective. If Might Guy also possessed the Body Flicker Technique, could he withstand ninjutsu unscathed?
"Konoha Senpu!"
Might Guy paid no heed to the minor injury caused by the intense heat, gathering a large amount of chakra in his palm and swinging it toward Obito with tremendous force.
"You're aiming that at me? You're aiming too high," Obito said confidently as he activated his Three Tomoe Sharingan and easily dodged the incoming blast of wind.
After all, he was used to facing Mu Yue's Konoha Senpu on a regular basis, and while Might Guy's technique was impressive, it fell short of Mu Yue's.
The flames that Obito had gathered to launch were instantly snuffed out by Guy's attack, threatening to engulf him.
Even as he dodged the previous burst of chakra, Obito had secretly gathered his chakra, knowing that although Guy possessed long-range attacks, he excelled in close-quarters combat and preferred it.
His opponent was incredibly strong, forcing even Obito to think strategically.
"Wood Leaf Dragon God!"
Huff! Huff!!
Might Guy unleashed his chakra, spinning rapidly, and a green dragon formed, bursting through the flames and biting at Obito.
"Great Fire Annihilation: Fire Emperor!"
Obito retreated while gathering the remainder of his chakra and using it for one last Fire Release.
The Fire-Style Breathing Chakra Mode enhanced Obito's ability to shape his chakra, allowing him to perform nature transformation instantly. As he raised his hands, terrifying flames surged, and a massive fireball appeared in his palms.
The Fire Emperor was the most powerful Fire Release technique Obito currently possessed, but it also drained the most chakra, limiting him to using it only once per battle.
Facing the menacing fireball, Guy chose to dismiss the Wood Leaf Dragon God and retreat at full speed.
He could withstand the Snake Mace in his Rock Chakra Mode, enhanced by the Transparent World, but enduring a Fire Release of this caliber would be pushing it.
Boom!!
Terrifying waves of heat engulfed the entire arena, turning it into a sea of fire. The ground charred and blackened, and the trees reduced to ashes in the face of the scorching temperatures.
Exhausted and sitting on the ground, Obito surveyed the scene with satisfaction. He may have lost, but he had injured Guy, and his defeat only came from depleting his chakra.
"Guy wins," Mu Yue announced, ending the battle.
"That Fire Release is quite something. If only it could be a bit faster," Guy said, giving Obito a thumbs-up as he helped him up.
Although he hadn't landed a direct hit, Obito's Fire Emperor had been impressive.
"Hehe, that's the Fire Emperor for you," Obito said with a chuckle, scratching his head.
In Obito's opinion, the Fire Emperor was akin to a super Fire Blast, with its large area of effect and immense power. Like the Fire Blast, it was challenging to hit targets due to its speed but followed a similar template.
Hence, Obito rarely used the Fire Emperor in actual combat, opting for Fire Dragon Flame Bullet instead.
The Fire Emperor consumed too much chakra; unless he faced multiple enemies, it wasn't worth the cost.
However, there was another issue with having multiple enemies—it was risky to expend that much chakra in a crowded battlefield.
Obito figured that he would need to wait until he had enough chakra to cast the Fire Emperor with the speed of a Fire Blast for it to become a practical and useful technique.
With his head held high, Obito approached Kakashi. Although he had lost, his defeat was more honorable than Kakashi's.
Kakashi hadn't injured Itachi, but he had hurt Guy, so it was a victory!
Kakashi had lost due to a strategic miscalculation, and he had only lost because he ran out of strength, so it was a win!
Comparing their losses, Obito concluded that he had come out on top.
"Hey, Kakashi, how did you get my camera?" Obito asked, noticing that Kakashi now held his camera.
"Just recording your life," Kakashi replied with a faint smile.
For some reason, Obito felt a sense of foreboding.
"Give me back my camera," Obito demanded, reaching out for it.
"I'll give it back after I get the pictures developed," Kakashi said, showing Obito the photos he had taken before putting the camera away.
Obito was stunned by what he saw. In the photo, Guy was in a punching stance, while Obito was depicted as flying backward. There was a broken tree in the background, and leaves seemed to be stuck to Obito's body, creating a vivid image of him being knocked back.
What bothered Obito even more was that due to the high speed at which he had flown backward, his face appeared distorted in the photo.
Obito attempted to use force to reclaim his camera and delete the photos, but exhausted as he was, he had no chance of grabbing it from Kakashi.
"Go get the pictures developed quickly," Kakashi instructed his shadow clone, handing over the camera.
Without a word, the shadow clone sprinted off, soon disappearing from Obito's view. Exhausted, Obito could only watch helplessly as the clone's figure grew smaller and smaller until it vanished.
Obito seethed with hatred. If only he hadn't used the Fire Emperor at the end, he could have grabbed the camera back from Kakashi.
In this battle, both Obito and Kakashi had suffered losses.
After a brief intermission, Itachi and Guy faced off in the final disciple civil war.
"Eight Inner Gates, Du Gate, Open!"
With a roar, Guy forced open the first five of the Eight Inner Gates, causing a surge of violent chakra to flood his body and enhance his physical abilities.
Guy was a quick learner; since Kakashi had lost to Itachi's genjutsu, Guy started the match by pushing himself to his current limit—the fifth gate of the Eight Inner Gates.
Upon opening the Du Gate, Guy's chakra became extremely violent and challenging to control. He could only perform simple physical enhancements, such as concentrating chakra in specific body parts.
However, Guy did not immediately enter the Rock Chakra Mode after opening the Du Gate.
His body wasn't strong enough to handle the strain of using both abilities simultaneously, so he refrained from doing so unless necessary.
"Wood Leaf Whirlwind!"
Guy gathered a large amount of chakra in his legs and delivered a spinning kick toward Itachi.
Itachi activated his Three Tomoe Sharingan, capturing Guy's movement, then dodged to the side and threw a fire shuriken at him.
"Wood Leaf Hand Blade!"
Guy's attack missed, but he followed through with a transparent chakra blade that sliced through Itachi's flaming shuriken.
Itachi stared at Guy, his blood-red Sharingan swirling with chakra as he attempted to cast a genjutsu on him.
"Wood Leaf Strong Whirlwind!"
As Itachi expected, his genjutsu had no effect on Guy, who charged at him with increased force.
"Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu!"
Itachi quickly formed the necessary hand seals and spat out a massive fireball to repel Guy's advance.
"At this level of difficulty, even enhancing my techniques with tools won't be effective. I'll try Obito's approach," Itachi thought, deciding to give up on genjutsu for now.
Guy, at the fifth gate, wasn't immune to genjutsu, but Itachi's genjutsu wasn't strong enough. Immobilizing Guy, even for a moment, was far more challenging than it had been with Kakashi.
Itachi adjusted his breathing, focusing on the Fire-Style Breathing Chakra Mode.
Although Obito had failed, it didn't mean that this strategy was unworkable.
Since Guy was wary of his genjutsu, he would push himself to his limit with the Eight Inner Gates, and currently, Guy usually only opened the fourth gate simultaneously with the Rock Chakra Mode.
"Fire Style: Leaf Whirlwind!"
Danzo gathered chakra in his legs and delivered a fiery whirlwind kick at the approaching Might Guy.
Boom!!
Danzo was sent flying backward by Might Guy's formidable strength, retreating eight meters, while Might Guy only took a slight step back.
