Chapter 476: Freshmen
Chapter 476: Freshmen
"Bellatrix doesn't allow us to do this, and it's all my fault", Edward said in an extremely exhausted voice after hearing Jacob's suppressed roar. Jacob looked helpless, knowing that this was exactly the kind of thing Bellatrix would do.
"It's more than that", Edward continued. "On the way back, she refused to speak to me. I couldn't hear her thoughts and thought she was angry with me. But when she got off the plane, she immediately ran into Rosalie's arms. That's when I realized she had been worried from the start, fearing I would ask her to terminate the pregnancy."
"Why didn't you use some force? With your strength, controlling a human shouldn't be that difficult, right?" Jacob asked. "You vampires are really dumb. Bellatrix is just a human."
"Do you think I didn't consider that?" Edward said, looking depressed. "But now Esme, Rosalie, and Emmett are on Bellatrix's side, and Carlisle won't oppose them on this matter—"
"Not using force was the right decision", Hermione said at this moment, retracting the blood-red tentacles she had used to examine Bellatrix's condition. After a quick exchange through the Phoenix Mark, Liam interrupted Edward and Jacob's conversation. "The Freshmen in Bellatrix's womb is already intertwined with her life. Damaging either one before the baby is born will harm both. If we try to remove it, Bellatrix won't survive."
"You're sure about that, Wizard?" Carlisle asked cautiously. "We've tried to examine the fetus, but neither ultrasound nor amniocentesis has worked. Alice's prophecies and Edward's emotional sensing have also been ineffective. That's one of the reasons we couldn't do anything before."
"Of course, I'm sure", Hermione replied. "We've crossed the boundary between life and death and returned. I can confidently say that, in this world, very few can surpass us in the study of the forces of life and death."
"What can we do? I can see that Bellatrix won't last until the baby is born at this rate", Edward said, his face tense. Jacob also looked at Liam with the same anxious expression.
"The best solution is to provide energy", Liam said, offering the only possible solution. "You need to understand that even a weak immortal being requires more energy to grow than a human mother can provide. You need to supplement her with enough nutrients from an external source."
"We've tried", Dr. Carlisle said, looking weary. "We thought of that early on, but the fetus prevents her from accepting food. Her body rejects any form of nutrition. I tried intravenous feeding, but it didn't help."
"The potions we brought won't work either", Hermione quickly explained, seeing Liam look at her. "The potions we prepared were mostly for ourselves. As a human, Bellatrix can't handle the power contained in these elixirs. It's too dangerous to use potions from a different supernatural power system on her, especially given her current fragile state."
"If the fetus is a vampire, might the Dragonblood Fruit be useful?" Liam suddenly thought of something after hearing Hermione's words.
"Dragonblood Fruit? What's that?" Dr. Carlisle frowned, asking. Liam had assumed Brie would tell the Cullens about the Dragonblood Fruit, but it seemed she hadn't. Brie probably considered it one of their secrets and kept it to herself. Since vampires don't eat three meals a day, they don't share meals together, so the news didn't get out.
"It's a special plant I cultivated", Liam explained, giving a brief introduction. "Brie values the fruit of this plant more than human blood. I believe it can provide the fetus with sufficient nutrition. And on the other hand, the juice would be easier for Bellatrix, who is still human, to consume."
After taking out a bottle of Dragonblood Fruit juice and handing it to Carlisle, he poured a cup for each member of the Cullen family. After downing the liquid in one go, everyone gave it high praise. Dr. Carlisle felt that this juice would help them, these vegetarian vampires, to resist the temptation of human blood. After drinking the juice, they found that the allure of human blood had significantly decreased. Even Jasper, who had once fed on human blood, admitted that ordinary human blood wasn't as good as this juice.
After everyone confirmed, a freshly squeezed cup of Dragonblood Fruit juice was handed to Bellatrix. They had been discussing whether to warm it up or add some sugar, but Bellatrix took the cup directly. "Let me try it first. When I smelled it, I could feel the little one inside me craving it."
Since Bellatrix had spoken, everyone watched as she drank the entire bottle of the blood-scented juice. Perhaps because it was just fruit juice, even with the bloody smell, Bellatrix felt little psychological pressure.
"It's strange. I can smell the blood, but why does it taste so good?" Bellatrix said, placing the empty cup on the coffee table after drinking. However, everyone in the living room looked relieved, as this confirmed their suspicions that the child inside Bellatrix needed this.
Sure enough, a few minutes after drinking the juice, her waxy cheeks began to regain their color. She no longer needed much support to stand, and her breathing became smoother. Through magical detection, Liam confirmed that her life force was much stronger than before.
Once they were sure Bellatrix was fine, Jacob prepared to leave. Liam walked up to him in the doorway, stopping the somewhat melancholic Jacob. "I know what you're worried about, but I can assure you that the child in Bellatrix's womb is not a pure vampire. You don't need to fear the birth of a bloodthirsty monster. Of course, to ensure this, I will stay here until the child is born. If it is a bloodthirsty monster, I will kill it, and I guarantee the Cullen family's vampires won't be able to stop me."
"I understand. I'll keep this a secret in the tribe for now. I don't want this place to turn into a war zone", Jacob nodded and then started his car, driving away.
Liam's words were also for the Cullen family, and as vampires, they could easily hear what he said from that distance. However, the Cullen family did not object to Liam's actions, knowing the dangers of a bloodthirsty monster.
Over the next few days, Liam and Hermione took turns observing the fetus in Bellatrix's womb. This unique life, a blend of life and death, provided them with valuable data. Of course, they also tried to use magic to alleviate the pain Bellatrix, the host of this life, was experiencing.
"He's too active", Hermione said to the Cullen family after painlessly removing one of Bellatrix's ribs, as the fetus had already broken a rib before she arrived. "Given Bellatrix's current fever, sweating, and chills, her body is too weak. Right now, I can only use Nature Magic to soothe her slightly, but I can't give her painkillers or anesthetics."
"It's much better now. Thank you for helping Bellatrix!" Alice said.
However, the situation worsened over the next few days. According to Liam and Hermione's observations, the fetus was developing healthily, but Bellatrix's condition was deteriorating. By the third day, at least a third of her bones were broken, and Liam and the others couldn't repair them, as the fetus would break them again.
Finally, the day before her due date, Bellatrix went into premature labor when the fetus broke another one of her bones.
