Chapter 471: Werewolf Guidance
Chapter 471: Werewolf Guidance
In the Fir Forest, the wind howled through the trees. Sam looked at Liam with disbelief. "Didn't you say you're Wizards from Britain? If I understood correctly, shouldn't you be casting spells from a distance? How can you engage in close combat?"
"We do cast spells from a distance", Liam replied. "But to test your Werewolf combat skills, we need to engage in close combat. Besides, we are British Wizards, traditionally known as Druids, and we have always possessed the physical prowess granted by nature." As he spoke, he took a step forward, and his body began to swell. Eventually, a massive panda stood before everyone.
"Moreover, I'm not fighting in my human form. This body is not much different from your Giant Wolf form. So, you can go all out." Liam readied himself. "Let's begin."
Sam nodded and transformed into a black Giant Wolf, charging forward. To avoid accidental injuries, Hermione waved her wand, casting layers of magical defenses around herself. Rose Crystal stayed close to her, ready to provide support in case of any unexpected situations.
With a long howl, black fur erupted from Sam's body. His size increased fivefold, and he pounced with sharp teeth aiming for Liam's neck, while simultaneously trying to knock Liam off balance with a shoulder charge.
Liam quickly realized this was a common tactic among Werewolves and Vampires, but it was not very effective against him in his panda form: pandas have short, thick necks, and Liam's mouth was not large enough to fit the panda's neck inside. Additionally, the impact of the charge was less effective against a panda that was nearly twice the size of a Giant Wolf.
Seizing the opportunity during the close combat, Liam reared up and swung his right paw, using gravity to strike the Giant Wolf's waist. The Giant Wolf tried to dodge but couldn't completely avoid the attack. Liam's bear paw landed a heavy blow on the Giant Wolf's right hind leg, hitting the thigh. This was only a glancing blow because they were sparring, and Liam had retracted his claws. Otherwise, the sharp bear claws could have crippled the Giant Wolf's leg in one strike.
However, the black Giant Wolf, being not a real animal, quickly changed tactics and began to engage in hit-and-run attacks. This strategy was not very effective, as the Giant Wolf needed to maintain speed to avoid being caught by the giant panda. Each attack was a quick touch and retreat, which was not enough to penetrate the panda's defenses.
If the Giant Wolf attempted a more powerful attack, his speed would slow down, giving Liam the chance to counter. Given the size difference, trading blows was more disadvantageous for the Giant Wolf.
Additionally, the Giant Wolf's pride in his agility and hit-and-run tactics had little effect on Liam's giant panda form. Circling around Liam consumed more energy, and the Giant Wolf would eventually tire out.
After more than half an hour, Sam reluctantly transformed back to his human form. Liam, also back to his human form, noticed many bruises on Sam's body.
"Sorry, sometimes it's hard to control the force during sparring", Liam said, scratching his head, noting that he himself was mostly unharmed.
"It's fine. These bruises will disappear in about 40 minutes", Sam said nonchalantly. Such minor injuries were nothing for Werewolves. "By the way, what did you discover about Werewolves?"
"Quite a bit", Liam nodded. He realized that with his improved strength, such inspections no longer required complex spells or gestures. He had simply allowed runes to spread across his body, and when the Giant Wolf hit him, he collected the data he needed.
"When you transform into Werewolves, your souls are influenced by the wild side of nature. You try to suppress this wildness with your human side, but the power of nature is strong, and sometimes you can't fully control your wild side. This can lead to certain incidents. Fortunately, as a Druid, I have a method to address this problem."
"Really? What is it?" Sam asked, his eyes wide open. He couldn't believe that this young man had solved a problem that had plagued them for centuries in such a short time.
"It's still the Power of Nature", Liam recalled the teachings of Aunt Betty the Centaur. "Nature isn't just about its wild, outgoing side. It also has a reserved, gentle side. Nature itself is a fusion of these two forces. You need to master both aspects. If you can keep them balanced, a slight nudge from your human side can precisely harness the infinite power of nature."
"The reserved, gentle side of nature?" As an indigenous American, Liam found this theory quite appealing. It aligned well with the indigenous understanding of nature and the cultural tradition of living in harmony with it. Under Liam's guidance, Sam began to learn how to feel the Power of Nature.
Although the Werewolves had gathered a lot of knowledge about Dna to explain why they turned into Werewolves, this world still had its extraordinary elements. Otherwise, it would be impossible to explain the unscientific changes, such as their bodies increasing fivefold when they transformed, which clearly violated the law of conservation of energy.
Guided by Liam, Sam meditated for the first time and entered this world's Spirit Realm. This world, like the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, was not overly extraordinary, so it only had a vague, chaotic Spirit Realm. Fortunately, the Spirit Realm was influenced by the material world, and because of the surrounding forest, it was filled with the vibrant energy of nature.
"Alright, calm your mind and feel everything", Liam said, then exited the Spirit Realm. He found a clean tree trunk and sat down to study with Hermione and Rose Crystal. Since they had returned to the World of the Living through the Stone Arches, they had discovered many things they needed to learn at a higher level. Realizing their shortcomings, they spent every spare moment together studying.
The sky gradually darkened. When the forest was completely black, Sam's excited shout rang out: "I did it, I felt it." His voice was full of excitement.
Liam quickly stepped in front of Hermione and gave Sam a big hug as he rushed over, then began to ask what he had seen. From Sam's description, Liam knew that he had genuinely felt the presence of nature's spirit and the gentle side of nature beyond its wildness.
"It's like a mother's embrace", Sam described. "I felt my inner anger calm down, allowing me to fight calmly in wolf form. For now, this calm state doesn't last long, but I believe it will get better over time."
Over the following days, Liam and the others met a large group of Werewolves. To accommodate them, they built a substantial wooden cabin in the forest as a meditation room. With the help of Magicspices and Liam, they all began to learn how to communicate with nature.
Through conversations with the Werewolves, Liam finally figured out which world they were in: Twilight, a standard Mary Sue-style story where a Vampire falls in love with his lunch. This came to mind when he learned from the Werewolves that the local Vampires wouldn't die in the sun, but would sparkle like diamonds.
However, having only seen part of the movie and read some reviews in his previous life, Liam didn't know where the story was in its plot. Recalling that the main characters and the Werewolves were good people, Liam relaxed and decided to stay, treating it as a trip with Hermione. After all, following the main characters would ensure they experienced the story.
