Chapter 47: Don't do anything.
Alex scowled at Allison. "Did you really need to bring it up like that?"

"You haven't answered my question".

"Matthew"

"Carson?"

"Yep. Unfortunate. He got captured and they killed him. Short story".

"Don't act like that. I knew he was close to you. Cry yourself a river if you feel like. I won't judge".

"You're kidding. How do you expect me to cry in front of my student? But before you try to force me to do it in public, I've cried already. I like my dignity, thank you very much. So, now you understand why I was emphasizing on the fact that all of you should come back alive".

"I understood that from the moment you said it. I will try and come back alive".

"No, you won't try. You will come back alive. It's an order."
Allison smiled. "Looks like I'm not allowed to die without your permission".

"Hey! Don't take death as a joke".

"Tsk. Someone's turned soft".
He started laughing. "This is how I've always been. I can't just sit back and watch the people I care about die. And besides, you're like a daughter to me now."

"True. I would have been disappointed if you thought otherwise".

"You're becoming more and more brazen".

"It's not my fault. You've been doting on me too much".
He went over to where she was and drew her to her feet. "I can't believe you're 19 now. Just three years ago, you were begging me to save you".

"It wasn't begging per se. I was only asking you. It was up to you to leave me or not but you took me away, why?"

"I will tell you the reason when you're mature enough".
She stepped back from him. "What do you mean by that? I am mature".
He smiled and drew her back, this time hugging her tight. "You will always be that 16yrs old girl to me".

She murmured into his shirt. "You're basically saying that you would never tell me".

"True, true. But things might change. If you really want to know that answer, you have to come back alive first".

"I will, I promise".

"Now, about that Everett guy..."
She drew back and hit his arm playfully to stop him from talking. "I know that mischievous gleam in your eye. Don't do anything. Okay, maybe make his exams a little bit harder but I want to take care of this myself. But Alex, is it a bad decision on my part to go out on missions?"

Alex's expression changed. "Don't tell me he used that as an excuse? Look here Al". He held her by the shoulders. "If a guy doesn't understand you, he doesn't deserve you".

"I'll keep that in mind Alex".
