Chapter 469: Old Man Goes in Person
Chapter 469: Old Man Goes in Person
Charlotte Big Mom was tending to her injuries below, while Lucius Kro napped above.
However, Totto Land was crawling with World Government spies. When that finger strike capable of crushing heaven and earth descended, various factions scrambled to gather intelligence.
Eventually, they obtained the intelligence they sought—a shocking revelation.
This information was immediately reported to the World Government.
In Mariejois, the ancient Pan Gu City, where rights clashed.
Five old men continued striking their poses.
"What do you think?"
The elderly man with a map on his head asked the other four.
"Radical."
The glasses-wearing elder with a blade replied, "Too reckless. Daring to enter Big Mom's Kingdom alone? He doesn't resemble his superior at all. Why does the report say he's similar to Borsalino?"
"Now isn't the time for that", the curly-haired elder interjected, hands clasped. "The intelligence says Big Mom originally planned a campaign, but her son stopped her. Otherwise, another war would've erupted. With the world's conscription ongoing, a conflict would cause massive losses."
"Where's Lucius Kro now?" the bearded elder asked.
"Unclear. But Shabondy received a call—he's alive", the last red-skinned elder said.
"Suppress it. We can't provoke Big Mom now. If she's enraged into attacking, the world's balance will shatter."
"Agreed."
"Agreed."
"Agreed."
"Agreed."
The four elders spoke in unison.
"How to handle the Navy?" the map-headed elder asked.
"Leave it to Sakazuki. Issue the command to him—he'll comply", the glasses-wearing elder replied.
"The Navy might resent this. We misjudged Zeff's case before. The old Navy has its pride", the bearded elder said, hands in pockets.
"The Navy is just the World Government's facade. But you're right—we can reward internally. However, Lucius Kro is too unruly. How about stationing him in Mariejois? His combat power is sufficient to guard here."
"Acceptable. Notify Sakazuki." The others nodded.
...
"Old Man Refuses!!!"
At the New Marine Headquarters, Sakazuki slammed the table with one hand, roaring into the Transponder Snail, "This is our chance to strike while the iron's hot! Big Mom's injured—we should deploy the Navy and arrest them all!"
"Calm down, Sakazuki. The World Government has its own stance. Focus on completing the world conscription first", the Transponder Snail replied coolly.
"Unforgivable!!!" Sakazuki bellowed. "This is our greatest opportunity to crush pirates!"
"The world must maintain balance. Don't disrupt it. Also, Lucius Kro must be conscripted to Mariejois. We need him to guard here."
"Absolutely not!" Sakazuki's face darkened. "I'll allow no pursuit of Big Mom, but Lucius Kro cannot go to Mariejois. He's a crucial combat asset for the Navy!"
"If you insist, just control the information. Regarding Lucius Kro, we can reward him, but discreetly. Maintain his current position—no publicity."
Click.
The Transponder Snail disconnected.
"Hey! Hey!"
Sakazuki shouted at the device, then angrily slammed the receiver down, sitting on the table and panting.
"Oh~ Kuro went to Big Mom? Where is he now?"
Lucius Kro quietly set down his teacup, his tone teasing but his expression unusually serious. His eyes held a rare intensity.
"Location unknown, but alive. He contacted his subordinates."
Sakazuki said, suddenly smirking, "That brat has guts. Did he realize he was stuck in Shabondy with no promotion, so he sought this path? Big Mom's foolish son sent assassins after Pegasus Island, and Kuro seized the chance."
"Pity the old men can't act. The World Government..." Sakazuki's fist flared crimson.
"Such things will happen. He's young. The old men might let him succeed me. But the Navy needs a purge soon—we can't have loyal forces fighting pirates while being stabbed in the back."
"Right. Use the world conscription as cover for a purge", Sakazuki nodded. "That brat isn't suited for Mariejois either. The old men would rather delay action against Big Mom, despite this opportunity."
He's impulsive, but not stupid.
Back when they attended meetings, Kuro's attitude toward the World Nobles was obvious to all. Let him go to Mariejois? Sakazuki refused to lose such a vital combat asset, especially since Kuro was Borsalino's protégé.
Zeff's incident was lesson enough—they wouldn't repeat it.
"Kuro truly isn't suited. The old men won't send him. For guarding Mariejois, conscripts from the world draft will suffice. You have targets in mind, don't you, Sakazuki?" Lucius Kro glanced at him.
"The two are still in contact. One even crossed paths with Kuro's brat. When he returns, perhaps we'll test him", Sakazuki said.
"First, locate Kuro."
Lucius Kro stood, "I'll go fetch him myself."
"Then it's in your hands, Borsalino."
"Perhaps Big Mom deserves a warning too."
Lucius Kro shrugged, his hooded cloak billowing as he strode out.
...
"Hurry! Move!"
Late at night, Marineford.
Alarms blared across the island.
Navy forces sprinted in formation, weapons in hand, boarding warships.
At the port, Storbery barked orders.
"Speed up! Everyone aboard in ten minutes!"
"Vice Admiral, what's happening?"
A commander saluted, asking.
"Unclear", Storbery shook his head. "Probably to retrieve Vice Admiral Lucius Kro—the Shabondy report said so. But Admiral Lucius Kro himself called. This must be serious."
Lucius Kro was his former superior, the faction's leader. Kuro was his protégé, the future faction head. This command would be obeyed, no matter what.
"Admiral Lucius Kro? The Admiral himself is coming?" The commander blinked.
"No", Storbery gazed at the sky. "Admiral Lucius Kro went to Totto Land."
