Chapter 468: The Illusionary Battle (Part 11): The War Intensifies
Chapter 468: The Illusionary Battle (Part 11): The War Intensifies
Alex and !! led their army swiftly southward, marching at top speed toward the coordinates provided by General Ke.
During their march, they encountered the cavalry scouts sent by Qi Yue Wu Yi, confirming that he was also leading his forces south to reinforce his position.
Determined to arrive before Qi Yue Wu Yi, they instructed the mages in their army to cast acceleration spells, pushing their troops to move as fast as possible.
They also used the time to discuss their strategy.
Alex held a hand-drawn map, detailing the areas scouted by their soldiers. The map clearly marked the locations of camps, gold mines, and strategic points.
The southwestern region had also been scouted by their cavalry, and key strategic points were noted on the map.
Alex pointed to a gold mine in the lower left corner of the map and said to !!, "The coordinates General Ke sent us overlap with this gold mine. This means Candy isn't in one of the camps but is near the gold mine."
!! nodded. "That makes things easier. In the upcoming battle, we just need to focus all our firepower on killing him."
"I agree," Alex said, smoothing her hair back. "But before we reach our target, I suggest we make a stop at this place first."
Alex pointed to the "Blazing Camp" on the map.
"Blazing Camp?" !! furrowed his brow. "Going there will force us to take a detour, which will reduce our marching efficiency!"
"Trust me, it's worth it," Alex explained. "First, we can exchange all our gold for troops at Blazing Camp, boosting our army's combat strength."
"Second, since Candy is so close to this camp, he's likely to buy troops here. By checking the exchange list at Blazing Camp, we can guess which units he's recruiting, allowing us to better target him."
!! thought for a moment and finally agreed, "Alright, let's do it your way."
Three minutes later, Alex and !! arrived at Blazing Camp.
After reviewing the camp's exchange list, Alex nodded. "Based on my analysis, Candy is likely to have recruited 'Blazing Guardian Knights.' They are the camp's most defensively powerful units, capable of withstanding our army's assault."
!! considered this and nodded in agreement. "I think you're right. It's been six minutes since the start of the game. Assuming they have three gold mines, they should have accumulated 3000 gold, enough for 10 'Blazing Guardian Knights.'"
Alex shook her head. "There won't be that many. They would have spent some time exploring the mines at the beginning, so they probably have 8 to 9 'Blazing Guardian Knights.'"
!! asked, "Then which units should we exchange for?"
"Let's go with these, 'Flame Mages,'" Alex confidently said, marking the choice on the list. A mage in a fiery red robe appeared beside them.
"Mages are strong against heavily armored knights. Their squad of Guardian Knights won't stand a chance against even one of our mages," Alex said with confidence.
!! opened his mouth to speak but held back his words.
Alex had made a decision without his consent, which irritated him.
But given that she was a distinguished white woman, he didn't show his annoyance.
"Since we've completed the exchange, let's move out," he said stiffly.
Half a minute later, at coordinates [324, 223], Alex and !!'s forces arrived at their destination, just 100 meters away from Candy's 2000-strong army.
But when they saw the Caramello standing there with a surprised look, Alex and !! exchanged a glance of shock.
Caramello had been standing there all along, and they had deduced that the Flame Guardian Knight he had exchanged for was not part of his army. What was going on?
Could it be that he had given up and was just coasting through the game? But they quickly realized that wasn't the case.
Caramello, dressed in a red and blue mage robe, stepped forward to the front of his army, raised his wand high, and laughed, "You've been tricked!"
"What?" Alex and !! were both taken aback.
Suddenly, a deafening cry of battle erupted from the side of the mountain.
A hundred-strong cavalry unit, their feet enhanced by acceleration runes, charged toward Alex’s fragile archer, mage, and healer units like they were flying just above the ground.
And as the cavalry passed, the earth behind them churned, and 24 Flame Skeleton Archers emerged from the ground.
The greatest advantage of Flame Skeleton Archers, a type of undead, was that they didn't need to breathe and could remain hidden underground for extended periods.
Now that they had emerged, they immediately became the biggest threat to Alex and !!'s army.
"Attention all ranged units! Focus all your attacks on the 'Flame Archmage' in the center of the mage formation!" Qiyue Wu Yi scanned the battlefield and immediately identified the Flame Archmage as the greatest threat.
The Flame Archmage was a powerful fourth-rank mage, and as a fire specialist, he excelled in large-scale area-of-effect spells. If left unchecked, the consequences would be dire. He had to be eliminated first.
Following their commander's orders, the archer units, mage units, and the 24 Flame Skeleton Archers all launched a coordinated attack on the Flame Archmage.
A barrage of spells and arrows rained down on the Flame Archmage.
Alex was alarmed. She quickly directed her healers and mages to cast multiple layers of magical shields to protect the Flame Archmage.
However, archers were the natural counters to mages. The combined volley of 24 third-rank Flame Skeleton Archers was devastating!
Under Qiyue Wu Yi's command, the ranged units launched three consecutive volleys. The cavalry charged in, raising their sharp lances to strike the enemy's magical shields.
The magical shields couldn't withstand such intense physical damage and were shattered by the third volley.
The Flame Archmage fought with all his might to defend himself but ultimately fell to the fourth volley of the Flame Skeleton Archers.
The scales of victory began to tip in favor of Qiyue Wu Yi and Caramello.
Faced with this sudden turn of events, !! didn't panic. Instead, he remained calm.
"Now, all units, listen to my command!" !! shouted, "Ignore the enemy behind you and focus all your efforts on killing Caramello! Lock onto Caramello as your primary target!"
"Understood!" The warriors and cavalry around !! ignored the threat from behind, gritting their teeth as they charged forward toward Caramello's position.
Alex glared at !! with a mixture of anger and disdain. How dare this lowly South Korean male issue orders over her? Did he not understand the concept of hierarchy?
However, she knew !! was right and didn't argue further. She urged her troops to charge toward Caramello.
Caramello had only 2000 troops surrounding him. If they could eliminate Caramello, they would win!
