Chapter 468: New Home
Chapter 468: New Home
At Bright Pearl City International Airport, Liam and Hermione were saying goodbye to their parents. After a month-long trip to China, they were finally embarking on their journey back to Britain.
"Rest assured, Uncle and Aunt. I'll take good care of Hermione", Liam said to the Granger family. Hermione, at this moment, was chatting with Liam's parents. Although he couldn't hear what they were saying, the way she was giggling into her hand suggested that the conversation was light and pleasant.
After listening to their parents' nagging for a while, the parents finally left. Liam and Hermione stood side by side, waving goodbye until they disappeared into the crowd.
"This trip has been amazing!" Hermione exclaimed in the waiting hall. "The Chinese Magic I learned is incredibly useful. It's a shame all the spells require Mandarin to cast, and it has its own unique magical system. Without a deep understanding of Chinese culture, outsiders can't use this magic. I owe it all to that memory infusion device you used."
At this point, Hermione finally realized something. "This must be the secret to how you could recite all those books by heart."
"Uh (⊙o⊙)…" Liam suddenly felt that Hermione's excellent memory and intelligence weren't always a good thing for him.
This time, they had acquired a complete set of foundational magic from China, equivalent to what students at Hogwarts would learn. The most important part was that these materials came with extensive notes, allowing them to study independently. Additionally, Liam had gained skills in Automaton Puppetry, Magical Plant Cultivation, and Enchanting. In total, the trip had been incredibly fruitful, and it had also shown them a direction for their future endeavors in a wizarding world that could coexist harmoniously with the ordinary world.
Moreover, Liam had signed a series of supply agreements with his clan back home. These goods, along with those produced from the plantation in Norway, would ensure that the Joke Shop could operate independently for a long time. In these chaotic times, securing a steady supply of materials was crucial, as any day a supplier or a particular material could disappear.
The first thing to do upon returning to Britain was to head to their new home. Before leaving for China, Liam had given a significant amount of gold to his father, Mr. Lambert. Mr. Lambert had stored the gold in a bank's safety deposit box and then commissioned a real estate company to purchase a manor as their future home. Fortunately, Mr. Lambert was now a fairly well-known author, having recently sold the Hollywood movie rights to his new novel, so handing over such a large sum of money didn't raise any suspicions.
This manor had over a century of history, with the main building being a two-story Victorian-style house. It also came with a five-acre farm. The previous owner was a declining noble who had decided to sell the manor because they couldn't afford the property taxes and maintenance costs.
In Britain, a developed country in the West, money could solve almost any problem. So, they could entrust the farm to a professional agricultural company, receiving a steady income each year. Although this would earn them less than if they managed the farm themselves, it was far more convenient.
Naturally, such a manor didn't come cheap. It cost nearly 700,000 pounds in this era. However, after thoroughly inspecting the manor's interior design and decor, both of them felt the money was well spent.
Over the next three days, they focused all their energy on renovating the manor. Liam first set up an Alchemical Array to shield the entire house and yard from magical reactions, then began installing various magical defenses. Hermione helped by inscribing runes. Due to their Soul Bond, Hermione had gained access to the Multiverse General Store, just like Rose Crystal. So, in their free time, she and Rose Crystal used the portal to travel to other worlds, selecting items from the collection Liam had gathered to decorate their new home.
The modular design of Shelter Company allowed him to directly choose a pre-built base. With the help of Magic and robots, the Manor's organization went smoothly. After three days of work, the three of them had everything in the house tidied up and in order.
"This is our home, and it feels absolutely wonderful." On the afternoon of the third day, after finishing the last of the tidying, they all sat in the living room for afternoon tea. Rose Crystal, holding a cup of black tea, sat on the windowsill, gazing around the house and through the glass window at the green fields outside, sighing contentedly.
"Indeed! This is what home feels like." Liam said, patting Rose Crystal's head. She shook her head, knocking his hand away, and Hermione couldn't help but giggle at the scene. The warm atmosphere was truly soothing, easing their tired bodies and spirits.
When it was time for dinner, Liam, while eating his grilled salmon, said to Hermione, who was sitting across from him, "I've finally sorted out all the things I harvested recently. It's time for a new adventure. I plan to head out to a new world early tomorrow. Would you like to come along?"
"Of course, it would be my honor." Hermione raised an eyebrow and then smiled.
The next morning, after gathering the necessary items, the two of them set off with Rose Crystal in tow.
Liam considered that this adventure wasn't just for him, so he hesitated for a while in front of the Multiverse General Store before choosing a Level 6 world. After inputting 32 Deviation Points into the store's door, he led Hermione and Rose Crystal through the barrier, which shimmered like a pale blue surface of water.
"Why are we always in a forest?" After crossing the barrier and taking a quick look around, Rose Crystal looked dejected. "Can't we appear in a slightly less primitive situation? Every time we arrive in a world, we have to spend a lot of time looking for people."
"I can't control that", Liam said with a helpless expression. "Let's look around. Based on past experience, the Fate's Chosen should be nearby. It shouldn't take long to find them."
"This is a Douglas Fir." Hermione, who had been observing the surroundings, pointed at the trees after Liam and Rose Crystal finished their usual banter. "The entire forest is filled with these trees. If we were on a more normal Earth, we'd be in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Considering the freezing temperature around here, we're likely in the Northwestern United States or Canada."
"Wow, impressive!" Rose Crystal genuinely praised Hermione. "Liam also has an entire encyclopedia inputted into his brain, but he always takes a while to retrieve the information he needs."
"Alright, Rose Crystal." Liam smiled helplessly. "Let's look for someone we can communicate with around here." He glanced through the gaps in the coniferous trees at the sky, but it was overcast, and the moss on the ground indicated a damp and gloomy place. Without the stars or the sun, they couldn't determine their exact location.
They must be close to the sea. After walking for a short distance, the three of them reached a sandy beach. According to the Survival Manual, if they were near the coast, following the shoreline would increase their chances of encountering human settlements. In the forest, they noticed that the magic power in the air was quite active, indicating that this world indeed possessed some form of supernatural power.
"Is that person trying to commit suicide?" As they stood on the beach, looking out at the iron-gray sea, Rose Crystal, perched on Liam's shoulder, suddenly tugged at his hair and pointed in a direction.
Liam and Hermione immediately followed Rose Crystal's finger and saw a young woman in a dark T-shirt and jeans standing at the edge of a cliff by the sea, then jumping off.
"Save her." Liam and Hermione exchanged a glance and immediately sprang into action.
