Chapter 468: Elimination
Chapter 468: Elimination
The Combat Solver felt as if something had suddenly emerged within his body, wreaking havoc and tearing at him from the inside.
His face contorted in agony, he propped himself up with his sword and released the stored essence blood from his heart, desperately trying to heal the damaged parts. But instead of improving, the pain intensified with this action.
Knowing he couldn't stay there, he forced himself up with his sword and staggered forward. After taking only about twenty steps, he heard slow footsteps approaching from behind.
He froze, turned his head, and saw Chen Chuan walking towards him. Looking into the distance, he noticed the other escapee lying on the ground, his neck unnaturally twisted to one side, apparently broken.
Realizing there was no escape, he took a deep breath and knelt, enduring the waves of pain coursing through his body.
Raising his long sword, he wiped a piece of cloth on the blade and then positioned it across his neck. With a swift stroke, the sword sliced through, and his head rolled off.
His sword exerted not a fraction of its power, stopping precisely at the right moment. His arm remained in the sword-wielding pose, showcasing the exceptional control of a Third Limit Combat Solver.
Chen Chuan glanced at the scene, then turned away and hurried back towards the convoy.
At the front end of the National Highway, the man who had accompanied Jian Chengsheng to this location witnessed the scene of Chen Chuan's return. His face paled, and he immediately ran back to the vehicle, where he sat and said to the telegraph operator, "Send a telegram to the team leader. Inform them that the target hasn't been eliminated, and the mission has failed. I will return to face the consequences."
He quickly lowered the car window and leaned out, looking towards the leader of the combat personnel. "Captain Zhan!" he called out.
Captain Zhan responded, approaching the man, "What are your instructions, Mr. Han?"
Mr. Han, with a stern expression, asked, "Captain Zhan, do you know what to do?"
Captain Zhan replied solemnly, "I understand, Mr. Han. Rest assured, I will lead everyone to hold off any response: "I will ensure your safe retreat, Mr. Han."
Mr. Han's face relaxed slightly. With two Third Limit Combat Solvers out there, and in this open terrain, it would be challenging for everyone to escape together. But with someone staying behind to buy time, their chances of escape increased.
Mr. Han said, "Captain Zhan, the company will remember your sacrifice."
The car window rose, once again blocking Captain Zhan's view.
As the vehicle started and quickly drove away, Mr. Han returned to his position and shouted to his team, "Everyone, we must hold this position! Do not let anyone pass through! There will be compensation for our families, and the bereavement money will be delivered to them."
The team members remained silent, dispersing to their positions, ready for the impending battle.
They all knew that deserting in the face of danger would lead to the same fate; their families and relatives might have a chance at proper care if they fought to the end.
Upon Chen Chuan's return to the convoy, he found it in disarray. The clash between the three Third Limit Combat Solvers had been intense, and the once well-guarded convoy now lay in ruins.
Many vehicles showed signs of deliberate damage, indicating that the two Combat Solvers, unable to subdue Yao Guwen immediately, had resorted to sabotaging nearby vehicles in their search for Lei Jingli. As a result, every vehicle was either damaged or sliced open.
Fortunately, Chen Chuan's vehicle, which had been parked at a safe distance from the convoy, remained untouched. However, he had prepared for a vehicle change when he left.
Yao Guwen approached and said, "Captain Chen, I'll deal with these people up ahead. Can I count on you to handle Lei Jingli here?"
Chen Chuan replied, "Advisor Yao, do what you must. I'll take care of things here."
After confirming Yao Guwen's plan, he immediately dispatched half of the team to assist her.
Chen Chuan, meanwhile, headed towards Lei Jingli.
Lei Jingli had not remained hidden in the vehicle but had retreated to the Wasteland from the start, using esoteric rituals to conceal himself.
This bold move left him unprotected, and if discovered, it would mean certain death.
However, he wasn't entirely defenseless. Beforehand, he had informed Chen Chuan of his plan through the Interdimensional Connector, and Chen Chuan knew his approximate location. So, if anyone approached, both he and Yao Guwen would respond promptly.
This strategy proved wise, as Lei Jingli's distance from the convoy, combined with the esoteric ritual's concealment, kept him undetected.
The two Combat Solvers focused entirely on the convoy, even searching among the armed personnel, leaving Lei Jingli untouched.
Upon Chen Chuan's return, Lei Jingli did not remove the concealment or change his position. He knew the long-range marksmen outside might still be searching for targets, and until they were dealt with, the danger persisted. So, through the Interdimensional Connector, Lei Jingli said, "Student Chen, everything is under control here.
Chen Chuan also chose not to approach him, as doing so would only provide guidance out of thin air. He replied, "Director Lei, please wait a moment. Director Yao's meeting should be over soon."
After Han Tai left in his vehicle, he drove for a while on the National Highway before the car suddenly burst through a gap in the guardrail.
He glanced back and, seeing no one chasing him, heaved a sigh of relief. As long as he followed this path, he could go directly to the seaside.
Once there, someone would arrange for him to return to the company by sea, and then...
Just as he was thinking this, the car suddenly lurched forward and came to a stop.
Han Tai frowned and looked at the driver, who then drew a gun and fired, causing the head of the telegraph operator in the front seat to explode.
Han Tai was shocked. He reached for his own gun, but before he could even pull it halfway out, the driver had already turned the gun towards him, pointing it at his face. "Mr. Han Tai, someone has to take responsibility for this. I hope you understand."
Han Tai's face changed several times, and finally, with great effort, he maintained his composure and said, "There's no need to go to such lengths. I want to personally go to the company and explain this matter to the team leader and the directors. There's a lot that can't be conveyed clearly in a telegraph."
"Unfortunately, this matter cannot involve the company."
Before he could say another word, the driver pulled the trigger, and Han Tai's head exploded instantly, spraying implanted tissue fluid, brain matter, and blood all over the car's interior and seats.
The driver quickly got out of the car, went to the back, and emptied the algae oil from the fuel tank. He stepped back, lit a lighter, and threw it inside. As the entire vehicle burst into flames and burned fiercely, he turned and quickly left.
At that same moment, on the National Highway, intense gunfire erupted once again. The combat team blocking the road was very powerful, but as soon as Director Yao charged in, the originally orderly and strict formation immediately became chaotic.
This was the role of the Third Limit Combat Solver. They only needed to wear protective armor and charge in at an extremely fast speed, capable of disrupting any kind of setup from within, while the external forces coordinated the attack. The outcome of the battle was thus sealed.
However, this group's psychological resistance was extremely stubborn, especially the implanted combat personnel, who were particularly ferocious.
Their movements were exceptionally agile, and the protective armor on their bodies was also very sturdy. In their desperate fight, the attacking side encountered numerous obstacles.
Among them, two individuals stood out—Wu Han and Wei Dong, who formed an assault team.
At the beginning of the battle, it wasn't their turn to fight, but now they charged forward. With their seamless cooperation, they could often finish off an implanted combat soldier in no time, even when facing a similar combat team.
By the time they had eliminated the last implanted combat soldier, the intense gunfire in the field had already ceased.
From a distance, Director Yao looked at them, and a hint of appreciation appeared in his eyes. Although they were only Second Limit Combatants, it was clear that they had considerable real combat experience. Despite their young age, their potential was evident. If properly trained, they would be extremely capable assistants.
Unfortunately, he could tell that these were Chen Chuan's men, and it was impossible for him to compete with Chen Chuan for them.
He shook his head and ordered his men to clean up the aftermath. As he walked back towards the convoy, he glanced at the distance and saw Chen Chuan's discarded cloak lying on the ground. He instructed his subordinates to pick it up.
After returning to the convoy with his men, he signaled for the cloak to be returned to Chen Chuan and sincerely thanked him: "Captain Chen, we are truly grateful for your assistance. Without you, it would have been difficult for me to complete the escort mission."
Chen Chuan acknowledged the approaching telegraph operator with a nod and took back the cloak. "Director Lei can be considered my mentor. It's my duty to do these things."
Now, the assault team formed by Wu Han and Wei Dong, with their exceptional performance, caught Director Yao's attention. Despite being only Second Limit Combatants, their extensive real combat experience was evident, and their potential was clear despite their young age. With proper cultivation, they would become invaluable assistants.
However, Director Yao recognized that these men belonged to Chen Chuan, and he knew he couldn't compete with Chen Chuan for them.
He shook his head and ordered his men to clean up the aftermath. As he walked back towards the convoy, he glanced at the distance and saw Chen Chuan's discarded cloak lying on the ground. He instructed his subordinates to pick it up.
After returning to the convoy with his men, he signaled for the cloak to be returned to Chen Chuan and sincerely thanked him: "Captain Chen, we truly appreciate your assistance. Without you, it would have been difficult for me to complete the escort mission.
Chen Chuan nodded in acknowledgment and took back the cloak. "Director Lei is like a mentor to me. It's my duty to assist him."
Just then, a telegraph operator ran over and saluted Director Yao, presenting him with a translated message: "Advisor, reinforcements will arrive in ten minutes."
Director Yao took the translation and began reading.
Seeing that the situation was under control, Chen Chuan bid farewell to Director Yao and Director Lei and walked over to the body of Chengsheng Jian.
Before he reached the body, he noticed Chaoming circling overhead and emitting a chirping sound, indicating that he should watch over the body and take credit for the kill.
Chen Chuan smiled and decided to give Chaoming an extra meal that night.
As he approached, he bent down and picked up the broken sword. The moment he held it in his hand, he felt a peculiar sensation, as if his spirit was subtly invigorated.
This sword...
His first instinct was to check the hilt, sensing that something might be hidden there. However, it wasn't the right time to examine it, so he decided to wait until he returned.
